I need your help, hive mind
I will be opening a shop, an independent selling clothing (lesser known brands, maternity stuff) and locally made jewellery etc
I’m struggling with the name
This is my shortlist:
Blossom&robes
Luxeduck
Pushvelvet
Stellarobes

Do you have a favourite and any other suggestions would be appreciated? Thanks!

What about the Swedish translation of a word like 'calm' or 'lovely' or something like that if you're using Scandi brands?

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 17:45

Although companies house tells me there is already lots of Eden themed companies

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 17:46

@parrotonthesofa lovely = härlig

According to google translate, 'lugna' is calm is Swedish which I think is quite a nice word. Best to check with a real suede that it definitely means that though ! Grin

parrotonthesofa · 18/10/2020 17:47

I think harlig is a nice word too!

parrotonthesofa · 18/10/2020 17:47

I like the double dots over the letter too, don't know what they're called!

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 17:48

@parrotonthesofa so do I! It’s not too harsh sounding which some of the scandi words are

OP posts:
parrotonthesofa · 18/10/2020 17:51

I would say the only problem with using a scandi word is that it might sound a bit dated in a few years what with the whole hugge thing having been popular in recent years.
And maybe sounds too much like a IKEA flat pack??

noideaatallreally · 18/10/2020 17:59

We had a much loved hippie shop in town a million years ago when I was a teen called East of Eden. Are there any other book titles that might work?

noideaatallreally · 18/10/2020 18:04

Or on the theme of light? Luna, Juno, Luna and Juno? Selene?

parrotonthesofa · 18/10/2020 18:05

'Trouver la perle rare' in french means a 'find a rare gem' or similar in English.
You could call the shop 'la perle rare' . I know you re selling scandi not french but it gives it a chic foreign feel and is less likely to seem dated I think

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 18:10

Also I like Greek goddess names
Artemis
Athena

Really not Luxe anything. I agree with a pp that Luxe Duck sounds like a toilet cleaning product. And Push Velvet sounds like a euphemism for needing the loo.

I'm not keen on any of your original suggestions. There's been some good stuff from pp. I would go for something
a) easy to spell.
b) easy to say. That's part of the problem with Luxe anything. It looks like it's trying to be French imitation, so I'm not sure whether you'd pronoun it to not quite rhyme with fuck or Luke.
c) that at least hints at what you sell. Attic or Boutique are good. The reason X & Robes or similar doesn't work IMO is that you've got most of the business being clothing, but the name suggests that the clothing is a secondary part.

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 18:11

I am indecisive as you can tell Confused

SingingInTheShithouse · 18/10/2020 18:12

Sorry, this is my own trade too & I don't really like any & Luxeduck to me sounds odd & would make me think pretentious & over priced, without any clue to what you actually sold.

Personally I think something short & snappy, that hints at what you sell works best as it's easier to remember & sounds classier, without any pretentiousness. To me, Robe or Robes would be better out of what you've written

motorcyclenumptiness · 18/10/2020 18:32

B at Delphi

RandomMess · 18/10/2020 18:35

Scandi for women?

Nordic Apparel & Accessories

Sweetchillijam · 18/10/2020 18:39

Lucky duck
Serendipity
Coco’s closet
Phoebe’s/Phoebe
Stella’s Skandi collection
Earth mother/mother earth
Bella or stella’s boutique, Boutique Belle/Bella/Stella.

bitheby · 18/10/2020 18:53

I keep reading Luxeduck as Luxed Uck.

HeronLanyon · 18/10/2020 19:03

I would think luxeduck was possibly a kitchen supplier or a high end toilet cleaner and I too really struggled to make sense of the word itself (luxed uk) and still don’t understand the duck part and the luxe doesn’t seem to make sense with your ethos which isn’t luxe but is quite different. So neither word seems connected.
Good luck op.

SingingInTheShithouse · 18/10/2020 19:09

I've just spotted you mentioned Eden & Athena. Athena makes me think of stationary & cards. Eden is as common as muck for businesses & can cause confusion for anyone looking for you. Artemis sounds too masculine for women's wear

What about your own name, or DD or DM, DGMs name if it sounds stylish & would work with attic

Eg, Dorothy's Attic, Madeleines Attic, Emilie's Attic etc

JamMakingWannaBe · 18/10/2020 19:11

Bee & Bling
Phoebe Street
Trove

nancywhisky · 18/10/2020 19:15

So double meaning and got a Skandi sound ( its a scots word)
