I need your help, hive mind
I will be opening a shop, an independent selling clothing (lesser known brands, maternity stuff) and locally made jewellery etc
I’m struggling with the name
This is my shortlist:
Blossom&robes
Luxeduck
Pushvelvet
Stellarobes

Do you have a favourite and any other suggestions would be appreciated? Thanks!

Is the name easy to get right when giving out a website?

Robe means nothing to me, other than house of lord's. Is it a regional thing?

Either say what you do, or pick a surname type name. Note this does not have to be your own names.

See farrow and ball etc.

Sharpandshineyteeth · 18/10/2020 16:44

I like blossom and bee!!!

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 16:48

You see I think a name like blossom&robes or blossom&bee is easy when it comes to marketing and being ‘found’ online
I do also like Stella and velvet but they not that distinctive
I wondered about a danish word like ‘skont ’ which means great or excellent but it’s quite harsh sounding

I thought I was being fabulously clever with Denmark Street for a nanosecond. Blush

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 18/10/2020 16:52

Are there any other Scandi words that would work in the same way?

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 18/10/2020 16:54

I can see your shop in my mind’s eye. It’s a bit Sostrene Green and a bit Muji. A nice wooden counter. Plenty of natural fibres without tipping over into yoghurt knitting.

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 16:56

@WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo yes! That’s it
Why is the name so hard?!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/10/2020 16:57

Don't know who uses the word robe nowadays though, Bumble & Bee is a winner so far.

goldenharvest · 18/10/2020 17:00

I don't like any. I'd say Blossom&Bling?

Veryverycalmnow · 18/10/2020 17:06

Blossom and bee

MikeUniformMike · 18/10/2020 17:12

Muji means unbranded, I think.
How about omärkt.

You might want to run it past a Swedish person though.

MJMG2015 · 18/10/2020 17:13

I know it was me who said Blossom & 'DD's name?

But actually, it's a bad idea if you plan on having any more children.

I think pretty much anything that says what the shop does is a bit twee. But it hasn't exactly hurt Jojo Maman or Mams's &
Papa's has it. Also shops that don't say what they do haven't exactly been hurt by the lack of it Clarke's, Fat Face etc.

Something a bit random gives you more flexibility to change your focus as you work out what sells & what doesn't, so personally I'd go for not tying myself down to a name that reflects the stock.

People will find you either by word of mouth or by searching for a particular item

ChanklyBore · 18/10/2020 17:13

Push velvet = touching cloth. Luxeduck = toilet cleaner

If you like Bee, and your daughter’s name is Phoebe..

Fee and Bee
Feel and Be

Other thoughts

Elskan (baby in Icelandic)
Blossom and Jean (name, plus, jeans)

I am terrible at this kind of thing but fascinated by it:

Northern delights
Aurora
Scandiscovery
Scandilicious

fabulousathome · 18/10/2020 17:28

Attention?
Full Attention?
Wonder Woman? (makes me smile)

myhobbyisouting · 18/10/2020 17:29

Why don't you look at a pop up first? This is a really hard market to make money in.

Don't believe that rents are long term and dearer in your local shopping centres. They are diversifying in our town and offering flexible rates and contracts. Footfall is much higher too than on the street.

Which town in the south west? Usually a town or area will have something they are famous for and people feel comfortable when they see it. It is worth considering.

myhobbyisouting · 18/10/2020 17:30

For example if you are anywhere near the Eden Project - Eden sounds calm, sort of Scandinavian and is also relevant locally

Mylittlepony374 · 18/10/2020 17:37

I wouldn't be attracted to shop at any of the names you've suggested. Blossom is a bit twee, push velvet is weird that it's not plush velvet, luxeduck= toilet duck etc.
Given you're not focused on one specific thing but a feeling/concept, I'd go for a two name shop name like Farrow& Ball or Arthur James.

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 17:38

@myhobbyisouting I really, really like Eden. It’s very calming and I didn’t really know I wanted that in the name but I think I do. I don’t really want to say where I am but I am in a medium sized town near a city. The town high street has lots of footfall and is popular with those not wanting to go into the city. It’s very slightly run down but I would say up and coming. Some shops that have been there for years and plenty that come and go and I can absolutely see why they’ve not lasted. No clothes shops really, a Peacocks that was there closed down.

Also, I had thought about a pop up but it’s not an area I’m familiar with so I’d need to do some research

Mylittlepony374 · 18/10/2020 17:40

Something including Eden is a great idea.

ladyandthechocolate · 18/10/2020 17:41

@MutteringDarkly I like Aurora
