How much is your gas and electric per month?

I'm on a smart meter and at the moment my bill is creeping up to about £20 a week for both gas and electricity.. it's creeped up the past few weeks and we have very rarely had the heating on, about 10/20 minutes for a couple days a week.

Id like to have it on a lot more because my house is cold atm even with blankets/extra layers but I can't afford a large bill every month. I live in a 2 bedroom house.

How much do you all pay per month for yours?

£173 pounds for gas and electric. I only have a two bedroom place so am currently baffled as to why my bill is a whopper.

weltonn · 18/10/2020 10:45

@MellowMelly Wow that is high Shock

I'm with Octopus and have to give monthly readings. From yesterday's readings I have used £40 gas and £77 electric in the last month (16th September to 16th October). My monthly payment is £110 so just about right.

Ineverdidmind · 18/10/2020 10:48

£101 per month, 4 bed semi detached with gas central heating.

MellowMelly · 18/10/2020 10:49

I know Blush
I’m with Scottish Power and it’s my gas usage that is the brunt of that bill. I’m using the gas equivalent of a 4 bedroom house. God knows how as we are so good with heating etc...

LentilShanklet · 18/10/2020 10:51

I have a prepayment meter and a combi boiler for heating and hot water. I turned the heating on a few weeks ago and I just keep the thermostat set to 18/19 so it just maintains the temperature at that (in theory). I use approx £20 a month in electricity (a bit more in deep winter with lights on for longer etc), and probably about the same in gas. So all in all between £40-60 a month for both gas and electric.

MellowMelly · 18/10/2020 10:51

@Ineverdidmind
Which provider are you with? That’s an amazingly low bill for a 4 bed home!

LiveFromHome · 18/10/2020 10:53

£200 a month for both.

6 bedroomed detached, with 3 living rooms, and a separate one bedroom studio/annexe.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 10:54

I'm in a 4 bed detached too (in scotland) and use about £110 per month with Octopus. They do a referral bonus too where both the referrer and the new customer get £50 off their bill.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 18/10/2020 10:54

£95 per month for a 4 bed semi. Suspect I'm under paying though and it'll increase for the winter. We both WFH so the heating will be on every day.

Smallsteps88 · 18/10/2020 10:54

I have electric and oil. No gas. It’s costing about £120/£130 a month in total.

Stormblessed · 18/10/2020 10:55

£120 in a 4 bed semi-detached.

VictoriaBun · 18/10/2020 10:56

£70 per month for both, but we don't like a stifling temperature .

rosie1959 · 18/10/2020 10:57

Around £160 a month 3bed detached

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 10:58

Its our electricity use that is higher than gas. Must be all the consoles and oven, etc although we don't use a tumble dryer. Only used £40 of gas in the last month and have gas central heating

Ineverdidmind · 18/10/2020 10:59

@MellowMelly Do you think so? I think its Eon, we recently switched from Sainsbury's where we were paying something like £140pm.
Its not a massive house and is very well insulated.

TheOrigRights · 18/10/2020 10:59

£78 combined gas and elec per month.
Scottish Power.
2 bed mid terrace.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/10/2020 10:59

£60 per month gas & electric, large two bed mews

JustPurple · 18/10/2020 11:00

We switched to Octopus Agile when we got an electric car. You get to see the rate for each 30 minute block and out the heating/ washer etc on when the price is low.

Even with charging the car we pay less than before. Its about £45 electric and £20 gas for us.

(I also have a referral code for £50 credit if you want to try it)

FourTeaFallOut · 18/10/2020 11:03

£160 four bed detached and an electric car.

MellowMelly · 18/10/2020 11:05

@Ineverdidmind yes I think so and reading the rest of this thread I seem to be paying quite a huge amount Hmm Might get my boiler checked over just in case there’s a fault.

Onedropbeat · 18/10/2020 11:07

£120 combined for 2 bed semi 1900’s house

I think it’s too much

That’s with edf

I’m planning on changing to octopus as soon as I can

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 11:08

When you swap to Octopus, find someone with a referral code first as you will get money off your bill if you do
