How much is your gas and electric per month?

I'm on a smart meter and at the moment my bill is creeping up to about £20 a week for both gas and electricity.. it's creeped up the past few weeks and we have very rarely had the heating on, about 10/20 minutes for a couple days a week.

Id like to have it on a lot more because my house is cold atm even with blankets/extra layers but I can't afford a large bill every month. I live in a 2 bedroom house.

How much do you all pay per month for yours?

£1300 a year with Bulb. 4 bedroomed house, 3 storeys 14 radiators. We are in the North. 😀

LBOCS2 · 18/10/2020 15:31

£115 a month with Bulb - 4/5 bed semi detached. New boiler but old windows 😁 we accrue credit in the summer and run it down in the winter.

If you're paying a lot it's worth checking you're not out of contract because that's by far the most expensive way of having your energy provided.

coronafiona · 18/10/2020 15:37

£200+ but 4 beds

LER83 · 18/10/2020 16:12

We were paying £145 a month for gas &electric, in a 3 bedroom end of terrace. We have just moved to a new supplier and they are charging £95 a month. I'm making a real effort to keep the heating low and put jumpers on etc and reducing my tumble dryer usage! We also have a really ill fitting front door (rented house) so my dh is putting insulation round it as I type! We also got a new boiler in March so am really hoping to keep the bill under £100.

Nacreous · 18/10/2020 17:06

2 bed, 50pcm all in with Bulb (so green electricity and carbon offset gas). I am fairly stingy with my heating in the week though so am expecting it to go up with working from home.

ArseholesOnToast · 18/10/2020 17:23

£59 a month for both - gas with Zog and electricity with Bulb. Two bed Victorian terrace. Got £70 credit with the gas built up from the summer months. Don’t like it too warm, just have the heating on to take the chill off for a few hours in the evening. Electricity is about £15 in credit but that hardly goes up in the wintertime from summer usage.

SciFiScream · 18/10/2020 17:32

Ours has crept up to a dual fuel amount of £90 pcm. 3 bedroom semi detached 1989 build. 4 people living here.

Only use gas for heating and hot water. Electric for everything else including cooking and shower.

I expect we'll need to increase our direct debit soon due to working from home (though I Wfh last winter)

teenagetantrums · 18/10/2020 17:33

Two bedroom flat we pay £48 a month and are in credit on the latest bill by £100.00.
But there are only two of us and we both out at work 5 days a week.

Mydogatemypurse · 18/10/2020 17:34

£75 for both. 4 bed terraced. But I think it's going to increase due to wfh in winter.

Lurchermom · 18/10/2020 17:40

We are with Octopus (love them) and pay about £130p/m combined on a 3 bed mid terrace. Two adults and dog, gas cooker and has central heating. We also have an electric car which is why it costs that much. We were paying about £80p/m before we got the car.

Lurchermom · 18/10/2020 17:41

I should add that's for Octopus' super green tariff so not their cheapest.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 17:44

I'm also on the Super Green Octopus tariff so its a little more expensive than others they offer. I am using/paying around £110 per month combined

AldiAisleofCrap · 18/10/2020 17:44

@weltonn £87 a month is very reasonable I think you have lost touch with energy prices. We pay £220.

dewisant2020 · 18/10/2020 17:55

£94 per month for a 4 bedroom detached house, we use a lot of electric

GetRid · 18/10/2020 17:57

£176 per month, all year round. Drafty, old, 6 bed house.

TrickyD · 18/10/2020 18:33

£328 per month.
And DH wonders why I get cross about lights left on.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 18:35

At £328 i very much doubt its the lights that are the issue! Is that mainly gas or electric that is your highest bill?

Remona · 18/10/2020 18:39

£70 a month on a two bedroom house for dual fuel gas/electric. But I've not put the heating on yet (although the gas fire has been on for a few weeks).

It usually evens itself out over the course of a year. Lots of gas used in the winter, none in the summer. I've always worked from home anyway so my energy usage hasn't increased as a result of Covid. If it crept upwards of £80 a month, I'd start freaking out!

TrickyD · 18/10/2020 18:40

It's what we pay every month. Yes, gas and electric. I gave our readings to the people who 'look after your bills' but they said they only take you on if they can save you mor than £50'a year, which they couldn't.

On top, fuel for the open fire we light most nights.

dementedpixie · 18/10/2020 18:42

You must be very high users then? Is it gas or electric that is your highest expense?

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 18/10/2020 18:42

I'm on a prepayment metre (not a smart one) and I spend about 60 a month on electricity and 30 a month on gas in Winter. In Summer i spend much much less. It suits us and we don't have bills to worry about.

Kljnmw3459 · 18/10/2020 18:42

2 bed flat electricity and gas for us about £60-70 per month.

TrickyD · 18/10/2020 19:21

Electricity £1750 last year.Gas around £750. Electric underfloor heating in conservatory accounts for a lot.
WombatChocolate · 02/01/2021 15:51

I’m spending £100 on dual fuel with octopus.
I either switch each year or enquire as to whether there is a cheaper provider. Plus, I’m. It keen on letting a big surplus build up over the summer. I’d rather that I had any surplus and had the benefit of it rather than them. When they say they want you to have a surplus so you do t build a debit over the winter, I always say I’m fine with a bit of a debit and will then just pay it as required. As they are not entitled to keep you in surplus unless you agree, I find that around £100 paid all year keeps our bills in balance across the whole year.

We’re a 3 bed Victorian semi which is a bit draughty with its sash windows and it has an Aga which gobbles the gas. I try to set the thermostat at about 19 and have it in for an hour in the morning and about 6 hours in the late afeternoon/evening. Because if the Aga taking the chill off, we often don’t need to put it on until pretty much nOvember and it can go off a bit earlier too.

bloodywhitecat · 02/01/2021 16:08

£85 a month for electricity and about £30 a month in oil. The house is old, 3 bedroomed, semi detached and draughty, no double glazing, big gaps in the floorboards, thick walls but limited insulation. I am home all day and we have 1-2 under 5s living with us. Thermostat set to 18° 7am - 9pm and 15° overnight.
