How much is your gas and electric per month?

I'm on a smart meter and at the moment my bill is creeping up to about £20 a week for both gas and electricity.. it's creeped up the past few weeks and we have very rarely had the heating on, about 10/20 minutes for a couple days a week.

Id like to have it on a lot more because my house is cold atm even with blankets/extra layers but I can't afford a large bill every month. I live in a 2 bedroom house.

How much do you all pay per month for yours?

£25 (summer) to £40 (winter) a month in a four bed. It's unbelievable really to me! In my last place I paid more like £160. Modern insulation and a new boiler really do make a massive difference.

Elieza said "I use that martins money tips website as they are ethical and share half the commission with you as cash back."

In my experience that is an excellent place to start for guidance BUT bear in mind that even when requested for some reason they do not show all available tariffs - for example I've never seen Neon Reef tariffs listed there, and they are about the cheapest rate electricity prices around (albeit variable not fixed) at the moment. The Citizen's Advice site is more comprehensive than Martin Lewis's. Make sure if you decide to change to check out the service reviews of your chosen alternatives.

I would also endorse Elieza's comment that when comparing have a reasonable idea of your annual consumption in kWh for clearer results. Get these figures from past bills with accurate meter readings NOT estimates.

4 bedroom 3 storey town house, £56 a month we are a family of 6. Thermostat set to 21 degrees from 5:30am-9:30pm and 17 degrees from 9:30pm-5:30am. Having said that we are a A+ rated new build and the temperature doesn't drop below 19.5 over night even when there is frost so the heating doesn't click on. I use the drier for 2-3 loads a day and run the dishwasher once a day mon-fri twice a day weekends and school holidays. Just had a bill Friday and we are still £278 in credit so are paying the correct amount.

£83 a month, gas and electricity. Scottish power. 4 bed semi detached mid Victorian house.

Roselilly36 · 18/10/2020 13:40

£200 pmth 5 bed detached house

lboogy · 18/10/2020 13:45

Gas and electric £67 per month with Scottish power - 3 bed house with 2 adults and a toddler. I can't believe people are paying over £100 a month

theneverendinglaundry · 18/10/2020 13:51

3 bedroom house, split over 3 floors. Bill has just gone up to £130 a month.

DH and I home all day but I barely put the heating on.

Nat6999 · 18/10/2020 13:54

I'm with Npower & pay £69 a month for dual fuel for a 2 bedroom flat, I usually get some money back after my anniversary most years as well. I always have the heating on if I need it, use a tumble dryer for all my washing.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 18/10/2020 13:56

£180 pm our electric hardly fluctuates but we like to be toasty in winter. 4 bed detached with lounge, dining room, kitchen and a den downstairs (converted double garage for the children). I am with Octopus energy who I love.

I do have 2 teen sons though so we have a lot of tech either being used or on charge, plus Dh working from home now too.

Violetroselily · 18/10/2020 13:58

1 bed flat, electric only. My DD is £49 and I am always in credit.

NemosPoorlyFinn · 18/10/2020 14:02

£66 all in a month for a 2 bed semidetached new build

bibbitybobbitycats · 18/10/2020 14:34

£100 gas and leccy for three bed semi. I sometimes yearn for a cosy new build!

AlwaysLatte · 18/10/2020 14:36

About £200 per month, sometimes a little bit more.

AlwaysLatte · 18/10/2020 14:37

(No gas here though - so just electric and oil)

madcatladyforever · 18/10/2020 14:38

£70 a month for both with a smart meter. I have a three bedroom terraced house, fairly modern with good insulation, a combi boiler and new double glazing.
I work full time and live on my own. I set the heating to come on when it falls below 18 degrees and I don't skimp on heating.

WorraLiberty · 18/10/2020 14:41

Roughly £140 for both

3 bed semi

Southwest12 · 18/10/2020 14:50

£61 a month for gas and electric combined for a 4 bed terrace, though only me living in it. I've got a smart meter now and before the heating kicked in I was only using about 80p a day. Now it's about £1.50-£2. I build up lots of credit over the warmer months that carries me through the winter.

CoffeeInAnIV · 18/10/2020 14:52

£120 give or take. £80 electric for a three bed mid-terrace but lots of electrics on and £40 gas for hot water & heating.

vanillandhoney · 18/10/2020 14:54

Two-bed terrace. It's around £35 a month for both. We have a log fire though which cuts down on heating, plus there are only two of us.

freezedriedromance · 18/10/2020 14:55

£80 a month direct debit for both, all year round. We don't use as much in summer so it evens out in winter. 3 bed semi.

bluebird243 · 18/10/2020 14:56

£23 per month electricity only in 3 bed well insulated bungalow, with Bulb.

Heating is from log burner which is roughly £250 per year. But use electric eco radiators on odd days/ evenings in Spring/Autumn.

Some of these bills are amazing to me.

Lollypop4 · 18/10/2020 14:58

£120 just electric
( We have oil centeral heating)
2 adults 2 teens 2 young Dc.
We have a tumble dryer and washing machine in constant use though.

LeroyJenkinssss · 18/10/2020 15:02

Around £260 pcm for both for three bedrooms house plus granny annexe Confused

Gooseysgirl · 18/10/2020 15:04

4 bed semi with kitchen/diner and one living room: £104pm, we are currently with Bulb

suggestionsplease1 · 18/10/2020 15:18

£75 per month for Victorian detached 4 bed...but it's mostly just me, I only heat rooms I am using and never heat bedrooms, just have electric blankets on as need be.
