Prokupatuscrakedatus Usually beginners quilting classes are about patchwork and the quilting part (where you sandwich top, batting and backing together with stitching) is generally straight line (walking foot) so that you have something that you can use in a reasonable length of time. Most people don't tackle free-motion until well into their quilting career, in fact most never get comfortable with it and either do straight line quilting forever or send it out to be quilted.

Definitely try the quilting class, but be prepared to be hooked. It can get obsessive and expensive. Grin

I suspect that free-motion will never come naturally to me, I'm not naturally artistic in that when I draw free-hand it never looks like I want it to and my handwriting is also quite uneven and messy. I do have a good eye for colour and geometry so patchwork really suits me, and I also do a lot of walking foot quilting. You can be quite dramatic with just straight lines but it doesn't suit every quilt. This is one that I'm working on at the moment with a walking foot, I like it but it works because the patchwork is very geometric so the quilting blends well with the patchwork pattern.

I have two shirts waiting, but if I put the 40° wash on now, it would makes sense to wait for those shirts to be dry, wouldn't? Before starting the ironing I mean?

I am watching YT videos of people building booknooks.

vanillandhoney · 18/10/2020 11:34

I've finished my second croissant and am just about to empty the dryer and put another load of laundry on.

TwentyViginti · 18/10/2020 11:48

I'm boiling a chicken carcass to flavour the soup I'm making to use up the remaining sad veg in the salad drawer.

Will buy fresh veg tomorrow or maybe Tuesday. Enough bread til Tuesday, too.

forgetthehousework · 18/10/2020 12:15

Just watched our church YouTube service and now thinking about coffee and a toasted teacake.
Later I am going to finish the hat I am making.

KoalaRabbit · 18/10/2020 12:25

DS just came to tell me the bread is rising better than last time.

DH and DD have just picked up the pink blanket I ordered for DD that she wanted. They are on their way to get the wireless printer I ordered and chicken food.

DS has just came to see me again and said hi then disappeared.

jennie0412 · 18/10/2020 13:03

I'm just eating breakfast, a banana, and a cinnamon bagel with peanut butter and dates! Smile

vanillandhoney · 18/10/2020 13:18

I've just re-settled the beagle under his blanket.

Squirrel26 · 18/10/2020 13:34

I really should go and buy some dog food and a birthday present for my friend’s daughter. But I’m not sure if I have enough time.

Unless I go to the garden centre. But in that case a) the food will be more expensive and b) the poor child might end up with a pot plant.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/10/2020 13:49

It's Sunday - all shops are closed.

Andf I have misread bagel for beagle and quietly wondered...

soddingkitten · 18/10/2020 14:43

I just had to coax Sodding back into the house because The Monster* was roaming upstairs this morning and he is terrified of The Monster. We realised he was afraid and still hiding in the garden, rather than gadding about, when he didn’t gatecrash lunch. Even on the sunniest days he comes home to maraud at mealtimes.

  • The Monster = vacuum cleaner.
Squirrel26 · 18/10/2020 14:51

Ashamed to say I have bought friend’s kid a load of right plastic tat.

OTOH, when I was a 7 year old girl I was a massive fan of plastic tat.

SpeedofaSloth · 18/10/2020 15:23

I have just painted my nails in No7 Highland Mist.

SpeedofaSloth · 18/10/2020 15:24

I might pick up my knitting when my nails are dry. I am knitting a big scarf in pale green.

LittlePearl · 18/10/2020 15:32

I have just changed the bedding on the spare bed in preparation for a visit from our son, DIL and baby grandson.

Then I had a lovely cup of tea and piece of fruitcake with a lump of strong farmhouse Cheddar.

sueelleker · 18/10/2020 15:43

Sounds pretty, Speed; is it mauve?

EggyPegg · 18/10/2020 15:49

Both DC have recently got into the Harry Potter books and have asked for cloaks for Christmas. This morning I found a Gryffindor one in DS1s size locally (Wiltshire) for a fiver, which was excellent as he's declared himself a Gryffindor. DS2 has decided that Ravenclaw is the house for him, which makes the cloak hunt a little trickier. I have just found, and secured one in his size in Leeds, and the seller is happy to post for £10 all in.
I'm feeling very accomplished. They will make excellent stocking fillers as when they were babies, DH and I foolishly bought them the worlds biggest personalised stockings. Filling them has become quite the challenge. Have also bought DS1 an Ultron dressing up outfit, which is huge, so that will also pad it out nicely.

Spudlet · 18/10/2020 15:51

My foot felt pretty good on my run, so long as I was off the tarmac (I run off road but sometimes have to venture onto the black stuff to join the paths together). Just did 5 and a bit miles but really pleased with how everything felt, not too many niggles or complaints from the various creaky bits. Now skulking in our bedroom after a shower instead of being a good wife and mummy and going downstairs to help wrangle DS... 😈

PracticingPerson · 18/10/2020 17:05

Absolutely worn out from a long Christmas shopping trip, just got all the little niggly bits so hopefully easy from now on. Am not sitting eating crisps while dh makes tea, which will include bread and butter pudding so I'm looking forward to that.

PracticingPerson · 18/10/2020 17:06

Not = now

HelloDulling · 18/10/2020 17:10

Just picked up a box of mince pies in M&S reduced to 26p. Having one with a cup of tea before I unload the dryer.

The cat seems better, has noticeably gained weight in the last few weeks. Such good news.

SpeedofaSloth · 18/10/2020 17:13

@sueelleker it's a sort of pinky browny sort of colour, quite inoffensive, might stop me absentmindedly biting my nails.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/10/2020 17:25

Hello
Sorry if I missed it - what's wrong with your cat?

HelenaJustina · 18/10/2020 17:28

@Champagneforeveryone they were indeed a Bakedin offering, DC’s first month of 6. They were a great hit, definitely something I’d bake again as they are a bit different but super easy!

Taswama · 18/10/2020 19:19

Went for a run with my new trainers and both dc this morning. We are doing C25k together and have just finished week 6. We only manage one or two (not three) runs each week but are still making progress.

Also got ds1 to make another batch of breakfast bars as he ate most of the ones I made last weekend and he is very fussy about breakfast.
