Do you have any plans for half term ?

Struggling for ideas here !!

OP posts:
DominaShantotto · 14/10/2020 09:27

Plan at the moment is for the kids to go to my parents (childcare reasons so allowed) and for me and DH to carry on working as normal. No way we can focus with them around - mum has a huge riverbank garden with loads of trees and things to hide in and build dens and generally run feral with space to do so while avoiding people.

Plans subject to change depending on what fucking happens next.

Lindy2 · 14/10/2020 09:30

We're supposed to be going on a uk holiday. We'll be staying in a very remote cottage at the top off a hill. I'm hoping it will still go ahead. We will be doing lots of socially distanced walks and staying well away from all other people.

megletthesecond · 14/10/2020 09:32

No. It's a bit pandemic-y these days. I'll see how it pans out.

I've got the week off work as I haven't really used any annual leave this year. I think I'll be mostly tidying up. We might drive to the beach or play golf, depending on the weather.

MiniCooperLover · 14/10/2020 09:32

We are due to go to Corfu. We'll see ...

hellswelshy · 14/10/2020 09:50

Were hoping to get away, but in local lockdown at present so not looking likely. Instead we will probably- go to the cinema, go out for dinner, go for walks, tidy our allotment, do a fun spooky film night for Halloween. All locally obviously!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 14/10/2020 09:58

@MiniCooperLover oh I hope you get to go. Corfu is my happy place and I'd give anything to be there now. We have booked to go in May next year. No idea if it will happen or not but decided to take the risk and book it anyway. Can't bare the thought of not having any plans.

RationalOne · 14/10/2020 09:58

@MiniCooperLover

Is Corfu now on the 14 days isolate on return list?

It changes so often it's confusing.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 14/10/2020 09:59

Can't bear! Sorry!

Jigglypuffler · 14/10/2020 10:05

Trip to a castle
Drive in cinema
Art and craft activities at home
Lots of reading, films and popcorn
Baking
Possibly zoo

Normally I'd plan at least 3 or 4 days out in a half term (including the weekends) but I'm 8m pregnant and struggling physically now, so it's going to be much more home based than normal. Hopefully DS doesn't get too bored!

museummumblogger · 14/10/2020 10:15

Yes, me and my partner have the week off and are planning to take the kids out most days, to places with limited, pre-booked entry. We've been doing museums and heritage places since they started reopening in June and honestly they're some of the safest places to be - enhanced cleaning, limited numbers, compulsory face masks, etc etc. And almost all have free cancellation if you need to self-isolate so I'm not worried about having to change plans. We only visit places in our own bubble.

On our list is the Gruffalo trail at Wakehurst, Wildlife Photographer of the Year at Natural History Museum, a private bubble tour of Roald Dahl Museum, Royal Mews, and hopefully a short break to Yorkshire to see Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Personally I would rather have things to look forward to and have to cancel than nothing planned at all.

If you're in or around London I have this blog post with half term ideas which hopefully might help museummum.com/2020/10/08/october-2020-half-term-london/

So far it's not on any list. I'm more worried about the Greek government declaring out of bounds to Britain than the other way around right now

NerrSnerr · 14/10/2020 11:03

If we are able I plan to take my daughter ice skating as the rink has reopened this month. I also hope we'll go pumpkin picking. We'll probably also go swimming etc.

No firm plans but these are what we'll do if we're not locked down/ things are open.

haba · 14/10/2020 11:19

I'm going to buy a drumkit and an electric guitar for my children- they don't know!
The neighbours might hate us, but DC are going to be over the moon!

DappledThings · 14/10/2020 11:40

Oh sod off. I don’t enjoy the bloody drama. Maybe I came on at the wrong time of day but seeing all these jolly half term plans when some of us are cancelling stuff is depressing.....so excuse the ironic chuckle!
That's not how it came across. Your first post sounded like you were laughing at anyone making plans because they were being naive and you were taking the piss out of them. That's what has antagonised people.

I am planning to visit my parents and keeping fingers crossed for no lockdown that prevent that.

wwud12 · 14/10/2020 11:43

We're due to go to Blackpool but I fear this will be cancelled. It's been on the news this morning that Boris is considering a circuit breaker, straddling half term. I'll be really disappointed if we can't go, that would be our 8th cancelled holiday this year. But I'd understand it.

WellTidy · 14/10/2020 11:46

We did, we planned to go to IL’s holiday hole for a week. But DS’ TA has Covid symptoms and is awaiting test results. If she is positive, DS will have to self isolate for two weeks which means we won’t be able to go. And she won’t be able to go on her holiday either, which is a shame for her too.

All to be expected in the current climate, and nothing anybody can do. But a real shame nonetheless. Fingers crossed.

WellTidy · 14/10/2020 11:47

And DH is planning on doing a lot of decorating, so that’s a positive!

Sodamncold · 14/10/2020 11:47

@Hyperfish101

Pleased? I am gutted. I have seen my parents for a matter of hours since March and yes I have school age kids.
I get the impression you’re not someone to try to put a positive slant on things when they don’t work out?!

If lockdown hits here, I’ll adjust and make the best of it for myself and the children. We will enjoy no matter lockdown or no lockdown.

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 14/10/2020 11:50

@samandpoppysmummy

We have a two week half term (I work in the school my DC go to). I'm going to Barbados with my children for 10 days. I'm a widow and don't want to be stuck at home on my own with two teenagers who seem to be permanently attached to their screens. I'm really looking forward to the sunshine ☀️
Sounds amazing! Have a lovely time.
battlestargalactica · 14/10/2020 13:23

oh god i only answered the op and didn't read the self-congratulatory "we shall make it beautiful for the little children and they shall admire us and build a brighter future" posts.

this may be your reality, it is not everyones.

Mintjulia · 14/10/2020 13:40

More job interviews Hmm

Cycling with ds, letting him choose the entire menu for alternate days to give me a cooking challenge. Afternoon tea in the garden with friends. Getting the log burner going, watching films, playing UNO, eating cakeSmile

pourmeanotherglass · 14/10/2020 13:45

Working as the rest of my team beat me with booking leave:(

Answering a question about half term plans means taking about your own reality not the world's. You're just sore because the Covid dementors haven't ruined this thread yet
battlestargalactica · 14/10/2020 14:43

"it's not a write off if you don't want it to be" appears to be addressing my reality [shrug]

CountessFrog · 14/10/2020 17:10

Well I’m going on holiday, and if I can’t go, I’m putting up the new bed/wardrobe etc that’s waiting in the garage for DD’s new bedroom, and getting DH to paint the fences.

Opportunity and all that. I think I’d prefer to go away, but we are insured and will get money back to spend if we don’t go.
