We had a cottage booked, but cancelled now, and very relieved as we would have lost our money - waiting for more announcements before doing anything..

Circuit breaker lockdown.

Cinemas may still be open, and possibly if you are prepared to go in there daytime, book on the day.
Yes, me and my partner have the week off and are planning to take the kids out most days, to places with limited, pre-booked entry. We've been doing museums and heritage places since they started reopening in June and honestly they're some of the safest places to be - enhanced cleaning, limited numbers, compulsory face masks, etc etc. And almost all have free cancellation if you need to self-isolate so I'm not worried about having to change plans. We only visit places in our own bubble.

On our list is the Gruffalo trail at Wakehurst, Wildlife Photographer of the Year at Natural History Museum, a private bubble tour of Roald Dahl Museum, Royal Mews, and hopefully a short break to Yorkshire to see Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Personally I would rather have things to look forward to and have to cancel than nothing planned at all.

If you're in or around London I have this blog post with half term ideas which hopefully might help museummum.com/2020/10/08/october-2020-half-term-london/
@museummumblogger

Just a week half term? If so, you’ll spend most of your time on long journeys as all of those listed are hours away from each other!

Would love to get away with the family for a few days but so much uncertainty that it makes me anxious to book anything. Also need to have a huge clear out of the basement, which will be easier when dcs are at home so we’ve got extra pairs of hands.

@battlestargalactica

oh god i only answered the op and didn't read the self-congratulatory "we shall make it beautiful for the little children and they shall admire us and build a brighter future" posts.

this may be your reality, it is not everyones.

Where was your original post?

Dd has two weeks off. We cancelled our holiday and will now do a few day trips from home. We live 10 mins from beach and 30 mins from moor so plenty to do outside if weather is half way decent. Leisure centre is still open so probably some badminton and table tennis too.
Dd likes to bake and knit so we will sit at home eating cake and biscuits if all else fails.

Comefromaway · 14/10/2020 17:41

The first weekend will be written off as Dd will be home from college and recovering from dental surgery.

The second weekend we are going to the theatre.

Honestly, the calls for a lockdown are entirely political. Havent people noticed that we locked down for months And the virus came back. Hmm Surely you didn't think the lockdown would make the virus go away? It was there so the NHS wasnt flooded.
