Struggling for ideas here !!

Going away for 5 days to a holiday cottage we have rented

Eminybob · 14/10/2020 07:38

In the event of no lockdown, I have planned a couple of activities with just DS1 as DS2 will continue to go to nursery over half term. Dh will be working.

I have booked a spooky afternoon tea with trail at a local hotel.
Ice skating
Climbing at an indoor climbing centre.
The days that ds2 is with us will probably be soft play or the park depending on the weather.

I really bloody hope there’s not a lock down as I am not relishing the idea of sitting at home with a 2 and a 6 year old for a week.

Dinosaursinthebathtub · 14/10/2020 07:42

Just some lovely spooky activities for 2 year old, was really hoping to take her to them as we've done so little and I'm due soon after (I am going to semi isolate from about 38 weeks for sake of hospital staff and other mums so this would be the last opportunity beforehand)

I haven't told her about them but know she'd enjoy them so much and think the two businesses in question will likely fold altogether now if lockdown happens over half term. We're tier 1 at the moment but I suppose that won't matter if it's a national lockdown

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 07:44

@Ineverdidmind

This made me chuckle. There is a vet high likelihood we are heading for a mini lockdown so not much point in making plans tbh

I'm not a 'there's no point in even trying' kind of person. Life passes you by if you live that way.

They are literally announcing a lockdown for us as we speak so.....yes pretty much no point. 🙄
HaggisBurger · 14/10/2020 07:50

Last minute break 2hrs from us - dogs and kids beach walks etc. All in accordance with the rules mind you. Waited to book as unsure what the rules would be. We have 2 week half term away for 4 nights

AngelsWithSilverWings · 14/10/2020 07:53

Off to a cottage in Cornwall if the rules don't change. We will go as long as we are allowed to. If local pubs and places of interest shut then we will still go but take lots of nice food , wine and board games. Purposely booked a place right on the water with gorgeous views so we can enjoy the beauty of the location even if we are stuck in for a week. I am just so desperate to escape. Luckily the kids are teenagers and will be happy as long there is Wi-fi.

Covideo · 14/10/2020 07:54

Glad it’s making you chuckle hyperfish
Personally I’ll be gutted if we can’t go on our uk self catering short break that has been postponed from May.

AuntieMarys · 14/10/2020 07:56

Dd is coming up from London next week supposedly for a few days...I shall remind her to bring a big case!

CountessFrog · 14/10/2020 07:58

Honestly, the calls for a lockdown are entirely political. Havent people noticed that we locked down for months And the virus came back.

Plenty of scientists and doctors think the same, it’s just political spin not to allow them a voice.

Anyone notice Boris being more cautious about the chances of a vaccine? And in the same breath, the government saying that the strategy is to wait for a vaccine? Confusing, eh?

We are being manipulated left right and centre by politically driven mainstream media. There’s no easy answer, but constant panic is very unhelpful Kay Burley and Sky news at their best this morning, ‘should we worry about reinfection?’ Find our after all these adverts for Amazon and the national lottery!’

Oh and the dramatic music....

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 07:59

Yep. Mine has already been cancelled so excuse my ironic chuckling at all these plans when many of us are about to be totally locked down.

CountessFrog · 14/10/2020 08:00

Are you in Liverpool?

TheNewLook · 14/10/2020 08:04

This made me chuckle. There is a vet high likelihood we are heading for a mini lockdown so not much point in making plans tbh

You sound pleased. Perhaps you don’t have children of an age to need occupying in half-term? Many of us do. We understand the need for caution but we also want to give our children some pleasure when there is so little around.

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 08:10

Pleased? I am gutted. I have seen my parents for a matter of hours since March and yes I have school age kids.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/10/2020 08:15

@Hyperfish101 I'm in tier 1 so we can pretty much carry on as we have been doing. So no, they're not announcing a lockdown for everyone "as we speak."

CountessFrog · 14/10/2020 08:25

Yes I can’t hear them doing it as we speak either. And you do seem to enjoy the drama.

Are you HTH?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 14/10/2020 08:25

Same as usual: letting the dc play in or out and not much else!

DimityDeNimes · 14/10/2020 08:26

The he type of person who is optimistic and makes plans during this time for their children for half term, such as myself and friends, tends to be the type of person that will also approach a lockdown with a “ok let’s make the best of it” approach and makes plans with confines of restriction

It teaches our children to be resilient, pragmatic and to roll with the punches too. They see us making plans for something to look forward to and if we need to cancel, no problem we'll do something else.

Hotcuppatea · 14/10/2020 08:30

Hoping to take DS and two friends to Chessington for his birthday

battlestargalactica · 14/10/2020 08:34

plans?

hahahahahahahahaha

2020 is a write-off

AriettyHomily · 14/10/2020 08:38

Kids have a 2 day gymnastics course, a show went gym party and a pumpkin carving thing booked (outdoors, SD).

Reality is I think it will all be cancelled and we'll be overdosing on Disney + and crafts in shitty weather.

bigchris · 14/10/2020 08:48

We have plans , it's not a write off if you don't want it to be

Goingg to a wild life park, out for lunch , shopping, teenagers going on sleepover, in a tier 1 area, so far, 20 covid cases in hospitals in the biggest county in the country

We'll mask up and make plans, after all we coukd be stick at home in November December and January if they close pubs restaurants, museums etc again

ScouseQueen · 14/10/2020 08:54

Not ones that involve going very far! Trying to work out some way to do Halloween things over Zoom, probably. And walks. Lots of walks.

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 09:07

Lucky you.

Oh sod off. I don’t enjoy the bloody drama. Maybe I came on at the wrong time of day but seeing all these jolly half term plans when some of us are cancelling stuff is depressing.....so excuse the ironic chuckle!

Nobody is enjoying this shitshow so stop patronising people by suggesting they ‘love the drama’. Keep your sarcastic HTH bollocks too....

mindutopia · 14/10/2020 09:23

Working as normal and dd will be watching Netflix all day probably. But we wouldn't really plan to go anywhere under the current circumstances anyway, maybe out for a walk or to the (very quiet, cold) beach if it's a nice day on the weekend. I expect we'll all be asked to make essential trips only though.
