Why isn't he more celebrated. An incredible achievement, 91 wins, equalling MS and it's so low key on the news?

Mrsjayy · 11/10/2020 22:41

Is it low key ive seen it twice on the news after the Grand prix. It is just car racing he hasn't changed the world or anything it has been a sport headline.

Cloud21 · 11/10/2020 22:42

Don’t know but I hear you. F1 as a general is so under-rated, under valued and under-appreciated in the world of sport when it comes to reporting the results in any news.

PurpleDaisies · 11/10/2020 22:45

I don’t think it’s been low key.
Personally i think it would be weird to go over the top celebrating equalling Michael Schumacher when Lewis is so obviously going to beat him this season.

Because he's irritating, because he's a tax avoider by all accounts, because he's all out for himself and not his team, because he's treated his father like shit.

jdoejnr1 · 11/10/2020 22:48

Because the popularity of F1 has taken a nosedive over recent years?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 11/10/2020 22:50

Tax avoidance and dissing his hometown.

AnyFucker · 11/10/2020 22:51

Because motor racing is really fucking boring and Lewis Hamilton is one smug prick

CoronaIsWatching · 11/10/2020 22:52

I don't know much about him but it's a shame he can't come out in this day and age

He's annoyingly smug.
DoctorTwo · 11/10/2020 22:59

Valentino Rossi>Lewis Hamilton.

bert3400 · 11/10/2020 23:01

He's a selfish twat. No regard for the sport that got him into F1. He was sponsored at 13 by Ron Dennis, how amazing if he did that for some kids in Karting, not likely. He is totally disliked in the sport he came from cause everyone know he is a selfish wanker .

TheSpottedZebra · 11/10/2020 23:02

I think that Lh is woefully underrated, but I also think it would be crass to celebrate him passing Michael Schumacher's record when MS is so ill.

What happened with Lh and his father- I thought they were close?

difficulttod · 11/10/2020 23:03

@toffeekiwi when you say he's not out for his team do you mean Mercedes and the people who work for it?

Kittykat93 · 11/10/2020 23:03

He is fucking celebrated! He's everywhere! Little jumped up idiot.

BaldricksCoffee · 11/10/2020 23:03

It's not that low key on the news. It's on the front page of the BBC news website.

bert3400 · 11/10/2020 23:04

Btw, loads of other F1 drivers have supported young kart drivers , Roseberg, Daniel Riccardo even Leclerc are getting involved....but not Lewis ...not one fucking penny .

TiddyTid · 11/10/2020 23:04

He's a superb driver. But MS he ain't

MJMG2015 · 11/10/2020 23:08

It's been all over the news all day!

Racing has also changed a lot and although he's achievement is incredible, it really isn't as incredible as Schaumachers

.

DilysPrice · 11/10/2020 23:08

I thought his tribute to Michael Schumacher’s legacy was elegant and respectful. It is astonishing how much he’s achieved.

The Stevenage thing was a ridiculous storm in a teacup which he instantly corrected himself on, but TBF if you live the life he lives nowadays 99% of places probably look like slums Smile

I grant you the jet tax thing was iffy, though sufficiently opaque that it wasn’t necessarily an informed personal choice. What’s he meant to have done to his father,’v

HazelBite · 11/10/2020 23:09

His is an incredible achievement. If you look at most F1 drivers they come from moneyed backgrounds so have the financial backing to get into the sport.
He has got where he has down to sheer talent and sacrifices by his parents in his early career.
I heard his name first mentioned in 2003 by someone who worked for McClaren, along the lines of how outstanding he was.
I 've watched F1 for years now and his talent and ability is phenomenal and is not recognised as such.

FadedRed · 11/10/2020 23:12

At least it has been on the sports news today, most races don’t get a mention since the free to view channels lost the contract to show the races live.
His achievements are legend. And his behind the scenes charity work is changing lives. But those people who think he’s just a smug rich git who drives a car are unlikely to know or care about that.

Because F1 just doesn't look like a sport to me

It's so fucking dull and stupidly dangerous - can't believe it wasn't stopped after Senna died

PercyKirke · 11/10/2020 23:19

Because modern F1 is as dull as ditchwater. It's really lost something over the years. I go back to the days of Clark, Surtees and Hill (Graham not Damian). The rot set in when the Britsih GP left Brands Hatch.

Longdistance · 11/10/2020 23:21

He keeps winning and it’s getting boring now. It’s not just the driver it’s the engine and technology that let’s him win.
LH is a smug twat sometimes and it doesn’t bode well within sport. Dissing St. Evenage wasn’t his best move.
