Why isn't he more celebrated. An incredible achievement, 91 wins, equalling MS and it's so low key on the news?

He's phenomenally talented.

He's also a phenomenal prick.

I heard him say that "ghetto" comment in an interview live and was like "dude, you're gonna get fucking roasted!" And didn't he just...

Ghetto? Isn't he from fucking Maidenhead or something?

Ghetto 😂

YouveGotMeWhosGotYou · 11/10/2020 23:24

He's from Stevenage.

GhostsInSnow · 11/10/2020 23:27

@bert3400

Btw, loads of other F1 drivers have supported young kart drivers , Roseberg, Daniel Riccardo even Leclerc are getting involved....but not Lewis ...not one fucking penny .
Supported Billy Monger, but the cynic in me wonders if that was better publicity.

He doesn't have the talent in his entire body that Schumey had in his little toe. An arrogant man who cannot bear to do anything but lead a race and in actual fact has forgotten how to drive one from anywhere other than the front.

As for viewing figures, I probably hold a controversial opinion that sport is not a place for politics. Whilst I applaud his BLM campaign the grid is not the place for it and for the FIA to now rule that drivers suits should be done up to the neck on podiums suggests they don't think it's the place for political statements either.
Hopefully new regs in 2022 will even the playing fields a little with teams on budgets. Talent and design will hopefully win out over 'chucking money at it'.

Senna, the film, was on TV last night. You forget how fabulous the sport was in the 1990s.

YouveGotMeWhosGotYou · 11/10/2020 23:30

He's clean living, supports BLM, a huge supporter of animal rights and does much more for charity than is publicised. But he doesn't come over as personable as other drivers such as Jenson Button. Which maybe makes him hard to warm to?

Have you watched the race to perfection on sky? It's a wonderful look back at all the greats.

www.essentiallysports.com/michael-schumacher-family-statement/

Schumacher was a cheat. He played dirty.

Monaco 2006
Micheal Schumacher is a great example to kick off this list. As great a driver that he was, he did have moments where he blatantly cheated. Case in point, the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix. He trailed Renault’s Fernando Alonso by 15 points, heading into the principality. Monaco is a race where pole position is of utmost importance.

In qualifying, Alonso was very quick and looked primed for pole. However, Schumacher had other ideas and stopped his car at La Rascasse. Naturally, he slowed up everyone else behind him and prevented Alonso from setting a better qualifying time. Schumacher’s explanation was that he tried to back up and the car stalled. However, the FIA stewards were not convinced by this fancy tale and punished him accordingly.

Australian Grand Prix 1994
This was a case of ‘fool me once, joke’s on me, fool me twice, joke’s on you’. At the 1994 Australian Grand Prix, Schumacher smashed his car into Damon Hill’s Benetton opening the way for the Driver’s Championship. Hill argued it was on purpose while Schumacher, naturally, said it was unintentional.

1997
A few years later at Jerez, Schumacher’s car ‘unintentionally’ repeated the same move on Jacques Villeneuve. This time, it was Schumacher who emerged the loser. Schumacher was disqualified from the F1 championship following an FIA investigation and the Formula One title to the Canadian.

Trust me,I could go on.

AgeLikeWine · 11/10/2020 23:43

In the car, the GOAT.

Out of the car, a nauseating sanctimonious prat.

30daysoflight · 11/10/2020 23:44

Really don't understand the hate for Lewis Hamilton

GhostsInSnow · 11/10/2020 23:49

Schumacher was a cheat. He played dirty

And? He wouldn't be the first or the last. Didn't take away from his talent.

Schumacher did so much for the sport and for charities behind the scenes. He didn't brag or boast, he quietly got on with it. He was a gentleman and liked by everyone.
His track persona was an athlete driven to win.

After the incident with Jaques in 98 he went to his trailer where they spent several hours drinking and chatting. There was never any bad blood with anyone, on track incidents were left on track.

Radiatornoise · 11/10/2020 23:51

This was a case of ‘fool me once, joke’s on me, fool me twice, joke’s on you’.

I’ve never understood this phrase Blush

Have you watched the race to perfection on sky? It's a wonderful look back at all the greats.

No I haven’t, but I will look out for it. Thanks!

LadyWithLapdog · 11/10/2020 23:51

I’m torn. I don’t care for the sport. But he’s vegan, supports BLM publicly and donates vast amounts to charity; so I wish I could like him more. Yet, he lives abroad for tax purposes, that’s a major negative.

Radiatornoise · 11/10/2020 23:52

Eddie Irvine

Radiatornoise · 11/10/2020 23:53

James Hunt . But Chris Hemsworth was a god in that film.

DilysPrice · 11/10/2020 23:53

If you’re going to hold a grudge against any F1 driver who lives in Monaco or Switzerland for tax reasons then I’m surprised you can find anyone to cheer for at all.

SkiingIsHeaven · 11/10/2020 23:54

Can't stand the constant virtue signalling.

He is a massive hypocrite saving the planet in is private aeroplane. Dodging tax.

And so smug. Can't stand him and his ridiculous stupid overpriced fashion sense.

The old racing drivers were wild and sexy and exciting. He is a miserable drip.

AgeLikeWine · 11/10/2020 23:54

@YouveGotMeWhosGotYou

You’re absolutely right about Schumacher. Even after he came back to the sport with Mercedes, he was still the same cheating so-and-so. He deliberately parked his car at Rascasse so nobody could his qualifying time and he almost put Barrichello, who was supposed to be his mate, into the wall at Interlagos (I think, cba to look it up).

Lewis is a greater driver than Schumacher because he races clean, and he has done throughout his career. Of course he has made the occasional mistake, but never anything remotely as malicious as Schumacher or Senna did. Lewis knows he is the best racing driver in the world and he proves he is the best by beating his rivals fair & square.

LadyWithLapdog · 11/10/2020 23:57

He doesn’t have a private jet anymore.

In fact, the more I read about him, the more I like him. Apart from the tax dodging.

Davros · 11/10/2020 23:58

Bring back refuelling

MinecraftMother · 11/10/2020 23:59

@YouveGotMeWhosGotYou ah well then...

DilysPrice · 11/10/2020 23:59

Rush was an amazing film wasn’t it? Because of the portrayal of the sport, obviously.
Maybe a teeny-weeny bit because of Mr Hemsworth’s performance.

GhostsInSnow · 12/10/2020 00:05

@YouveGotMeWhosGotYou

It's a shame when you copy and pasted the bits about Schumacher cheating you ignored the story about Hamilton lying about receiving team messages to let Jarno Trullli past.

Or perhaps the time he held up a race to hold up Nico Rosberg to help his own championship.

Very few drivers are squeaky clean. They all want to win.

spongedog · 12/10/2020 00:06

I really like Lewis Hamilton. I think he is a fabulous role model in many ways. He is over the top at the moment about BLM but that's his heritage not mine so I can accept that.

Yes he was a total dick a few years ago about the team (he lost a race and didnt like it) but god did he eat humble pie. I think he has matured in the public eye and that cant be easy.

I really love how he deals with his brother and disability. He also seems to very maturely deal with a complex family history. A recent photo of him and his 2 mums (being mum and step mum) being an example.

I dont disagree with the comment above about come out if you need to. But again that's his business. Let's just wish him well with that.

I'm proud of him and I dont even know him. Motor Racing is such an important part of British engineering and business. We need them to do well. Have some pride!

Leaving aside Mr Hemsworth’s obvious attributes, Daniel Bruhl was the real star of that film. He was absolutely superb as the young Niki Lauda, capturing his unique character perfectly.

Thank you AgeLikeWine

GhostsInSnow

Some may not mind MS cheating scandals but I think it undermines the sport, well any sport really.

LH won the British Grand Prix this year with a flat tyre! The guys a legend! Sure he has an opinion, but don't we all?
