Is there anything you want, could afford, but won’t buy?

I love Jellycat products, and spend way too long looking at websites selling them, and Facebook pages where people show their collections. My favourite sections are Ocean Life and Fresh and Foodie. I could afford to buy myself one every month (and ask for them for birthdays, Christmas etc),and I would adore them and they’d make me happy

But I don’t. I’ve got two, both presents. A really old cat and a conker.

I really want more but I can’t because I know I’d get obsessed, and I can’t risk it. My daughter was given one beanie baby when she was born in 1998, and suddenly I’d bought over 300 and had them stashed in suitcases until I gave them away. I can’t go there again - don’t have the money or the space.

I just wondered if anyone else had anything similar?

@Newgirls

Invisalign

I keep hoping prices will come down as while I think I now need it for wonky teeth it’s 3-4K and my dentist is much richer than me

Just about to finish my treatment, so impressed and wish I'd got it done years ago. My dentist offers interest free for 1 year, imagine that's pretty commonplace which might make it more within reach.

What about the mail order type alternatives? They are supposed to be half the price.
JonHammIsMyJamm · 13/10/2020 17:26

There are loads of clear aligners on the market nowadays that aren’t branded and so don’t carry the crazy mark up of Invisalign.

LynetteScavo · 13/10/2020 17:31

Air pods. Both of my teenagers have two pairs and won't give me a pair. They've told me to buy my own. So on principle I am not going to buy any. They have no idea that I will hold a grudge about this for years.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/10/2020 17:40

I have cheap wireless earbuds, about £25 from Amazon, seem to do the job perfectly fine, don't know what extra paying many times more would get you.

Suzi888 · 13/10/2020 17:41

A Ford Mustang Grin

AlCalavicci · 13/10/2020 19:30

DM boots , i have wanted a pair for years but never bought them .

Newgirls · 13/10/2020 20:18

Good intel on the teeth! I shall look into other brands!

Newgirls · 13/10/2020 20:19

DMs are money well spent do it!

JuliaJohnston · 13/10/2020 20:23

A Kitchenaid. Because the mixer I've got works perfectly well, it's just not as pleasing to look at.

Trenisenne · 13/10/2020 20:35

Swimming lessons. I can swim fine, but want to be better and faster. I'd only need a few, but can't quite bring myself to commit the money.

ruthieness · 13/10/2020 20:41

OOOh I ordered 10 clear plastic shoe boxes today - they arrive monday!

Enablers!!

TheSunIsStillShining · 13/10/2020 20:57

cashmere yarn. I did buy 1 skein and have the most wonderful shawl :)

DaisyDreaming · 13/10/2020 21:04

Just reading this, for those that want ipl devices they are on the amazon prime reduction day

GoBackToPartyCity · 13/10/2020 21:14

A dyson air wrap! I have really thick, curly hair and I can’t see how it could make it all swishy.

AlbaAlba · 13/10/2020 21:17

Plenty of money. But I can't bring myself to buy things unless I need them. I suppose if I just bought everything I ever wanted, we might not actually have that much money ultimately, but my tastes aren't that expensive so it would take a while. I do buy stuff I would use a lot, and buy higher quality for that - so plenty of pairs of sweaty betty leggings here. They wear well, don't sag, etc.

I kind of reward myself, so if I do x (really big achievement) then I can buy myself a £3000 instrument upgrade. Also I save ideas for xmas and birthday. Could really do with ear pods so I can hear my online yoga even when the children are home, but know DH will want ideas for xmas and likes to get techy stuff.

I'm mostly dangerous in book shops. Think that avoids my penny pinching because its "educational".

I don't want to come across as preachy but please do look at the reviews, SDC only moves the front teeth so can cause additional problems and they make you sign an NDA if you want your money back. I go for monthly check ups with my provider, I wouldn't be happy having such a significant procedure without such close monitoring. The Invisalign subreddit is also useful.
motorcyclenumptiness · 13/10/2020 21:37

Lots of women I know get prescription retin a privately which I can't afford and I feel like I am aging so much faster than them
Superdrug optimum retinol is really good (and currently bogof)

tenredthings · 13/10/2020 21:41

A vintage cadillac.

Shizzlestix · 13/10/2020 21:53

Ooh, bariatric surgery first (I’m fat 😳)
Then a new horse. Mine is broken and retired, but really, my DH would kill me and I barely have time for one. I’m resigned to waiting for my old boy to go first and I adore him, I don’t really want to divide my attention and I’m loathe to spend what I’d need to get what I want.

Newgirls · 14/10/2020 08:52

Tinkle that is a concern yes - that I’m left on my own with it not working. There must be huge market for this so will look into it and check reviews x

NewAndImprovedNorks · 15/10/2020 23:04

Thanks to this thread I have ordered some new slippers!

MyTelescopeBroke · 16/10/2020 06:27

There's a bass guitar I want because it's an amazing colour. But I already have two and have no need for a third.

So I haven't bought it. I'd love it though.

Newgirls · 16/10/2020 08:22

I bought the Superdrug retinol 😂 it’s 2 for 1 at the moment and lovely and smooth to apply. Good tip!

3 bass guitars might be a stretch but if it makes you even better why not 😬

PowerslidePanda · 16/10/2020 09:14

This toy for my DTs. Really cute concept, would be great for them learning numbers and could be used in their play kitchen. And I could afford to buy it. But £22, and then delivery on top, is about double what I'd be willing to pay for it - ridiculously overpriced!
