Is there anything you want, could afford, but won’t buy?

I love Jellycat products, and spend way too long looking at websites selling them, and Facebook pages where people show their collections. My favourite sections are Ocean Life and Fresh and Foodie. I could afford to buy myself one every month (and ask for them for birthdays, Christmas etc),and I would adore them and they’d make me happy

But I don’t. I’ve got two, both presents. A really old cat and a conker.

I really want more but I can’t because I know I’d get obsessed, and I can’t risk it. My daughter was given one beanie baby when she was born in 1998, and suddenly I’d bought over 300 and had them stashed in suitcases until I gave them away. I can’t go there again - don’t have the money or the space.

I just wondered if anyone else had anything similar?

A brand new car .
A corgi

A new sofa and hall carpet. No point with an 8 week old pup in the house not to mention my third dc who is a demon scribbler Hmm

@HairyToity. Would it be worth just getting the fronts and work-tops changed? There's quite a few companies that advertise.

Gulsink · 12/10/2020 13:41

I had to Google the Jellycat Conker as I thought it might be a typo. Now I want one. They do a cheeky boiled egg too.

I also really want the Harry Potter Diagon Alley Lego set. But I have no where to store it.

For anyone that said they’d love an IPL machine - the Philips Lumea Prestige is on the Amazon Prime Day deals this morning for £299 😊

Time40 · 13/10/2020 03:39

Oh god ... SO MANY THINGS. But I don't even really go there.

AlCalavicci · 13/10/2020 08:06

@isitactuallyme
Buy yourself a Eufy robot vac it's the best £180 I have ever spent !

mopphead · 13/10/2020 09:49

Another vote for the robot hoover.

MrsMariaReynolds · 13/10/2020 09:55

An iPhone.

An utter waste of money when my £100-ish Motorola does everything I need it to do.

Thesuzle · 13/10/2020 09:59

A kitchen aid mixer with all the attachments , I used to do a lot of baking in my younger days, wooden spoon and hand held mixer, now not so much, as I do not need to be eating cake !

Bananalanacake · 13/10/2020 10:56

I'm impressed at your 300 Beanie babies, I had a big collection but I've been selling a few at car boot sales, I get 2 or 3 euros each for them.

Runningdownthathill · 13/10/2020 11:00

A coffee machine. I just can’t bring myself to spend hundreds of pounds when a cafetière would do.

Zazacat76 · 13/10/2020 11:41

I can't afford any nice things for myself these days. Its so depressing. My flat is awful and I'd love to redecorate it but can't and I can't afford decent skincare. Lots of women I know get prescription retin a privately which I can't afford and I feel like I am aging so much faster than them.

pointyshoes · 13/10/2020 16:03

Just looked at the velvetiser. Does each sachet make one serving?

Yes.
BarbaraofSeville · 13/10/2020 16:21

Those of you who want Velvetisers but quite rightly baulk at the £100+ price tag, keep and eye on Aldi or Lidl specials for a milk frother - like a tiny kettle with a mixer in.

I got one for about £17 and it makes gorgeous hot chocolate or hot frothy milk. I use flaked chocolate or grate 30 p chocolate bars if I can be arsed. I got some of the hot chocolate flakes from M&S reduced after Christmas, at a fraction of the cost of Hotel Chocolat and still lovely.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/10/2020 16:22

I'd quite like a robot vac, but the cats would report me to the RSPCA if the vacuum cleaner sprang into life and disturbed their quite sleeping time.

Igotmylipstickon · 13/10/2020 16:30

Sweaty Betty Leggings. They keep popping up on my facebook feed and they look great and people here have said they have them. But I would feel guilty spending so much money on a pair of leggings.

GrandAltogether · 13/10/2020 16:31

Private education.

backaftera2yearbreak · 13/10/2020 16:32

Christian Louboutin shoes. But in some cases they are as much as a double mortgage payment. I just can’t hand over the money! I’ve nowhere to wear them anyway!

AuntieStella · 13/10/2020 16:35

A high spec Garmin (my trusty 35 does everything I need)

(And @Igotmylipstickon - Sweaty Betty are IME overrated, many other brands are just as good without being ££, or are similar price but way better (thinking of more advanced compression gear)

JonHammIsMyJamm · 13/10/2020 16:35

For me it is/was a bean to cup coffee maker. I’ve hummed and hawed for about 18 months over one and just couldn’t push the button as we have a pod machine (even if it is wasteful, expensive and makes distinctly ‘meh’ coffee). Our pod machine is about 5yrs old and has started to have issues with intermittently not reading pods or exploding pods all over the kitchen, despite being regularly cleaned, descaled and filters changed. So, I’ve finally given in and pulled the trigger on a bean to cup.

Newgirls · 13/10/2020 16:40

Invisalign

I keep hoping prices will come down as while I think I now need it for wonky teeth it’s 3-4K and my dentist is much richer than me

Igotmylipstickon · 13/10/2020 16:44

Thank you @AuntieStella That's a relief actually to know I'm not really missing out. Grin
