Is there anything you want, could afford, but won’t buy?

I love Jellycat products, and spend way too long looking at websites selling them, and Facebook pages where people show their collections. My favourite sections are Ocean Life and Fresh and Foodie. I could afford to buy myself one every month (and ask for them for birthdays, Christmas etc),and I would adore them and they’d make me happy

But I don’t. I’ve got two, both presents. A really old cat and a conker.

I really want more but I can’t because I know I’d get obsessed, and I can’t risk it. My daughter was given one beanie baby when she was born in 1998, and suddenly I’d bought over 300 and had them stashed in suitcases until I gave them away. I can’t go there again - don’t have the money or the space.

I just wondered if anyone else had anything similar?

Loads of stuff......I don't buy partly because I'm shit at spending money on myself and partly because I hate clutter.

I'm currently eying up a Miele dishwasher which is an absolute bargain but I'm out off by the cost of repairs if by some miracle it broke

eatsleepread · 11/10/2020 23:29

A robot vacuum cleaner.
Ideally I would try before I buy!

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/10/2020 23:31

A new drive. Seems a crazy amount of money.

eatsleepread · 11/10/2020 23:33

@LadySlipper

Lululemons are better ... and pricier!
My teen lives in hers though, and they've been the best investment ever.

Sunshine1235 · 11/10/2020 23:33

A plant subscription service, I know the plants would just die so I don’t want to face the heartache and stress of feeling guilty and having to look after them

MuseumOfYou · 11/10/2020 23:35

Some nautical Seasalt cotton bedding. But the dog will wade in the stream in the garden, then run upstairs straight onto the bed. Not sure I could bear it.

pastaparadise · 11/10/2020 23:36

A diamond ring. DP won't buy me one, so tempted to get one for myself as I'm now 40 and too old for cheap tin rings which I have. But always seems more sensible things to spend it on.. but I will crack one day!

I had never heard of velvetisers, but thanks to this thread, now want one. Thank you all very much! Grin
Is it a Hotel Chocolat thing, or a generic thing? And is there a specific type of chocolate (powder?) that you have to use with it?

EggyPegg · 11/10/2020 23:38

@Wheelerdeeler

2 things

Since I'm wfh , I've debated getting a bean to cup coffee machine. I even had vouchers. But I just can't justify it.

Designer sunglasses. But I always buy primark as I always lise them or sit on them etc.

Do it!! My DH bought himself a £400 one last year and then noted down how much he saved in not going to Costa every day. It paid off pretty swiftly. He gets his coffee delivered by Pact. He bought his swanky machine on Amazon, abfpaod it off monthly so it wasn't such a hit.

I'm with you on the sunglasses though. DH managed to convince me to 'treat' myself to some from Accessorize, they were £12 and I was wincing as my last three pairs have been from the pound shop. Guess what? I can't find them now. And this is why I said no when he tried to buy me three figure designer ones.

We've literally just replaced our crappy Beko with a Miele. They test it for 20 years and it's under warranty for 10 years. Ours is a slimline one and cost £850. That's £85 a year. DH decided that we'd probably paid close to the full price on crappy ones over the years.

Go for it. You will not regret it.

moolady1977 · 11/10/2020 23:43

For me it's the new Harry potter diagon alley Lego set yes I can afford it but how long would it take me to build it and I already have 6 Harry potter Lego sets to build

EggyPegg · 11/10/2020 23:47

Mine is dry slope ski sessions. I just want to be back on skis. But I couldn't go without the DC as they'd be gutted. But £60 for two hours is steep (£20 each).

OhTheRoses · 11/10/2020 23:55

A really beautiful silk velvet dressing gown - like the one toast had this season.

caringcarer · 12/10/2020 00:02

A new car. My older one gets me from A to B and I don't feel the need to buy a new one. Even if mine broke I would probably buy a second hand one a few years old.

A new phone. I am quite happy with my old one. My kids are always telling me I need a new one, but I really don't. Its not a priority for me.

hilariousnamehere · 12/10/2020 00:12

A velvetiser and another MR2 (little sports car) - I miss mine so much, they're not expensive and having had one for ten years I know all their weird quirks. But my current life doesn't work with a convertible with no boot space 😭

I'd also love a Figaro and a camper van but definitely can't afford to run four vehicles just for me 🤣

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 12/10/2020 00:12

@EggyPegg I know they're good machines. We've had our Miele washing machine 13 years and that's just a basic model. But repairs are silly money. It's never actually broken down but a new door seal cost £75 needed because dp trapped clothes in the door.

Knowing my luck I'll end up with a glitchy one.........but it's 'only' £550 in Currys plus I'll get £50 cashback so I'm very tempted.

made by Dualit and designed to use Hotel Chocolat flakes , its great for one drink. Would love a Vitamix- could make loads in that
angelcakebananabrain · 12/10/2020 00:21

More Cindwood looms. I have a few and they’ve always been pricey but the last couple of years the delivery price has shot right up and I can afford it but I just feel so guilty, especially as I have so many other looms already. I get as far as the checkout so many times! I did get one last year as my main Christmas present so maybe I’ll ask for another! I can afford it, easily, but I just...can’t...

Parkmama · 12/10/2020 00:26

@Wheelerdeeler I used to think this about sunglasses but did spend a bit on the end as needed prescription and have honestly never treated them better! I think the. £10.99 ones were asking to be sat upon! 🤣

SkiingIsHeaven · 12/10/2020 00:41

A second hand speed boat.

Can't afford a new one. Not sure how much use I'd get out of it either but really want one.

fastandthecurious · 12/10/2020 00:56

A new couch. I don't need one though so I really can't justify it. Ours is only a year old, I spend hours looking at couches online 😂

grassisjeweled · 12/10/2020 01:08

A fancy schmancy coffee machine

But the bodum does the job...
.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 12/10/2020 01:12

Lego Hogwarts Castle. I love it but it’s huge! Where the hell would I keep it?
Sweaty Betty leggings. How much??? (Have just bought some H&M ones for twenty quid and even that seems a bit much).
New carpets - I have adolescent cats who are still destroying everything and want to wait until they grow up a bit, but dear heavens my current ones are awful.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 12/10/2020 01:15

A new car. My current one is 11 years old and slightly battered...but it has low mileage and I can’t justify trading it on yet. Plus it’s spacious so good for the family and DD will be learning to drive next year and it wouldn’t matter if it gets the odd scrape.🤣

What I really want is something to zip about in instead of a family car. Not a sports car, just a small, nippy vehicle for me!

moonsnow · 12/10/2020 01:32

Lots of things skincare, books, fancy teas, art materials, fabric etc. I already have enough of all those things at the moment and don't want to end up with hoards of stuff I'm not using.
