Do you have an unfortunate name? Or know someone else that does?

It's been drawn to my attention by DH this week, that because of my habit of trailing the end of the word away to a squiggle when I'm signing my name, I've been signing everything as TWat_ for quite a while. He found this hilarious.

And I can't even blame him for his unfortunate surname beginning as I was another name beginning with Wat...before I married.

A work colleague is called Jenifer Taylor. Most people call her Jenny, I'm not sure her parents thought it through

Saw an obituary in a local Scottish newspaper for Hamish McSporran.

Also came across Headteacher called Mr Chicken.

My classmates in the 80s/90s: Indian boy called Binnit and another Indian boy with the surname Dixit. Also, Indian girl with the name Shital. Poor kids were ribbed at every opportunity.

A lovely customer named Olive Branch. By marriage

CloudyVanilla · 10/10/2020 20:03

I'm going to brag here Blush I really like my name. People always comment on it and think it's really cute/cool.

I did however once meet someone called Fiona Fish.

Many moons again I worked in a call Centre and spoke to a woman called Mrs Biggacock. Very happy she sounded too.

Not quite the same, but in Liverpool there is a street called Menlove Avenue. Where you can also find Menlove Dentists.

iwannalendyoumycoat · 10/10/2020 20:12

I taught a Gary Baldie a long time ago!

InTheFamilyTree · 10/10/2020 20:13

Oh, and I used to know a Paige Turner.

Hoppinggreen · 10/10/2020 20:15

TheId · 10/10/2020 20:15

A frequent correspondent to the BMJ was a urologist called Christopher Burns-Cox.
Always PMSL when he would write in.

TheId · 10/10/2020 20:18

I guess you can't know if your child is going to have an occupation where their initial and surname will be on a door plate

I had a primary teacher Miss I Ball
And a secondary teacher Mr P Upwards
And a charming colleague Dr S Pock

PinkJellycat · 10/10/2020 20:25

My sister went to uni with a Turkish girl called Tuna Kunt.
The most unfortunate of names.

TheId · 10/10/2020 20:25

Also knew an American family who named their non identical twins Candida and Melena because one was blonde and one dark

Charming thought

Unfortunately to a Dr that looks like you named your cute babies after a fungal infection and diarrhoea.

bigpurplefuryknickers · 10/10/2020 20:28

@Butterer

I saw a van locally with the guy's name on the side, his surname was Smallcock

I always think that a woman with the surname Goodhead must get some awkward comments

RolyPolyBatFaced · 10/10/2020 20:31

Not sure if it's unfortunate but it's in the ballpark!

My middle name is Pepsi. My mum loved the stuff when pregnant with me. So thank you mother!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/10/2020 20:34

I once had to call and offer a job to someone called Holden Maboobie. I'm afraid when they answered I did ask: "Are you Holden Maboobie?"
