Dh rejected caleb, daniel, Anthony and Joseph as being too popular. Also Jesse for a boy because he said it was a girl's name. I rejected Hezekiah because it was too unusual and Nathaniel because it was too posh.

I cried when DH scoffed in the face of Chuil. Like proper howled. I am now VERY glad that a. he stood his ground and b. we never had a boy.

He also vetoed Gypsy and Indi for a girl... Both would have suited her, Indi automatically makes me think of wild haired little barefoot girls, which she is. Gypsy though, what WAS I thinking???

DH quite liked the idea of naming our DS after his Dad or his Grandad. Unfortunately, both have names that have become used for other things now (think- Dick)

We both quite liked another name for DS and almost used it but happened to mention it as a possibility to his mum and a couple of friends who all asked if it was after an ex girlfriends of DHs (from a long time ago- and she had the female version of the name but shortened it so it was more like the male IYSWIM). We decided that years of explaining that we did not name our son after a teenage GF would get really irritating.

icebearforpresident · 06/10/2020 16:53

I don’t think I outright refused anything DH suggested. On the other hand he vetoed Martha, Gretchen & Toby.

We also had a blanket ban on anything beginning with C or K as we both have names beginning with C and I had the fear that people would think we were trying to copy the Kardashians.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 06/10/2020 16:57

I wanted Gertrude, shortened to Trudy. DH said no. Dd subsequently thanked him.

TartanTexan · 06/10/2020 17:21

Carine, why is it not more popular?

Lessstressedhemum · 06/10/2020 17:25

In my first marriage:
Sean
Pòdraig
My outlaws thought they were too Roman Catholic, although that's not the term they used.
Ruairidh
Fionnlaigh
Eileis,
Marsali
To Gaelic, apparently 🙄
Rhian
Morgana

In my second, so, so many.
Gabriel, Jude, Taliesin, Emrys, Lorcan, Lachlan, Oisin, Fearghas,
Grainne, Aoife, Mab, Mhairi, Aislinn, Eubha, Sorcha, Saoirse, Caoimhe,
And so many more.

My dh only ever suggested Oliver and Piers, both of which I totally rejected.

One of us thought Ramirez would be a fantastic first name for our middle son. Even though neither of us are Spanish and we don't live in Spain and it is a surname not a first name and we have a long Polish surname. The sane one of us said no, you absolute doofus, much to the other one's bafflement.

WiserOwl · 06/10/2020 17:31

@OntheWaves40

I wanted Anya, my parents didn’t so I chose something else
I also ruled out names my mum didnt like 🙈 She hated stella. I still think its lovely. She knew one who wasnt very glamorous so she thought of it like i think of Pauline.
StayClosePooky · 06/10/2020 17:32

Stanley. It was my Grandad's name and I loved it. My Hubbie said no because he had a rabbit called Stanley as a kid. Who tf calls a rabbit Stanley. Devastated Grin

Phoebesgift · 06/10/2020 18:19

I liked Melissa and Victoria for our girls. DH hated them both.
For boys, I loved Jude and Oliver. Again DH hated them.

OntheWaves40 · 06/10/2020 19:16

@WiserOwl glad they didn’t like it but now seems silly that I was trying to please everyone!

ferneytorro · 06/10/2020 19:20

Before we knew we were having a girl (as I forgot to ask at the official last scan but "luckily" we had to have an emergency one and I remembered then). It was rejected as we went on a day trip to Morecambe and there was an Edward being a right little ratbag and it put us off! Also Holly which I wanted but my husband didn't as our surname is Johnson and he thought people would think we had named her after the lead singer of Frankie goes to Hollywood. Which I didn't see the problem with!

ODFOx · 06/10/2020 19:24

Maeve, Maud and Mabel for a girl
Sebastian, Rufus and Oscar for a boy.
Outvoted!

GlamGiraffe · 06/10/2020 19:27

Husband wanted Serenity and Venus 🤔. My friend made me laugh, she asked if he had been attending strip clubs!

EssentialHummus · 06/10/2020 19:32

We were actually considering Boris for our first one, as it seemed literally the only name that matched our very specific multi-cultural requirements. Luckily DC had the good sense to be female.
