Baby's temp showing at 33.6

DS is just coming up to 6 months, he had a nap this morning from 10-12 which is unheard of, we then had a bottle at 12 ish and when I put him down to play he was moaning so I picked him up at which point he started acting tired again.

I thought he felt a little warm on his head so decided to test his temp, I took it with 2 different ear thermometers and one showed 34.1 and the other 33.6. He normally runs at about 35.8 on these thermometers.

I'm not sure if it's something I should be worrying about, other then being cranky and sleepy he seems fine. Should I be worrying about this ? Tia

Try the thermometer on yourself, it’s faulty.

fatisnotafeeling · 04/10/2020 13:41

They were fine for me, I used 2 different ones.

Sounds fairly faulty if it’s showing your baby’s temp at 35.8 normally.
However, low temp is a sign of sepsis. If you’re worried I would contact a HCP

How does he feel when you touch him?
Is he taking his milk? Are his nappies nice and wet?
Has he got teeth coming through? Recently had injections?
Is he playing when awake?

fatisnotafeeling · 04/10/2020 13:43

Sorry that should be 36.8 I didn't proof read properly.

The thing is I don't know if I need to be worried because he seems ok really other then a bit more tired but he is teething.

Oh I don't know he's my 4th you would think I would know by now.

@Pickypolly, he feels slightly warm on his head and hands and feet really cold but all the other things he's doing fine

StellaGib · 04/10/2020 13:46

What is the reading for you or your other kids?

Messwithyerhead · 04/10/2020 13:47

I’d call 111 without delay. If you firmly press on his finger or toe nails, do they go white and then back pink quickly? (Capillary refill)

CaramelWaferAndTea · 04/10/2020 13:47

Low temperature is a sign of sepsis, please contact an HCP ASAP

TheGhostofGlumy · 04/10/2020 13:48

Cold hands and feet are another marker for sepsis. I'd get it checked.

kirinm · 04/10/2020 13:48

He doesn't have a low temperature. OP I would ask MN to change the name of this thread.

36.8 isn't a temperature so he should be fine but I don't think the ear ones are always that reliable - I would still use the under arm ones.

kirinm · 04/10/2020 13:49

OP has said ira 36.8. She has a typo in the title (quite a significant typo)!
MissRabbitIsExhausted · 04/10/2020 13:49

If the thermometer is fine when you use it I would get him checked for peace of mind. Hopefully all will be ok but I would get it checked out.

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 04/10/2020 13:50

Sorry now I'm confused, what is him temp and what is it usually?

Messwithyerhead · 04/10/2020 13:51

No she said he normally is 36.8

FancyARoot · 04/10/2020 13:52

36.8 is fine

FrankiesKnuckle · 04/10/2020 13:52

@kirinm RTFT properly.

kirinm · 04/10/2020 13:52

Oh sorry. I would still guess the thermometer is dodgy but yes, if his temperature is 33.6, definitely call 111.

kirinm I think OP was referring to this part as the typo not the title of the thread...

He normally runs at about 35.8 on these thermometers

kirinm · 04/10/2020 13:54

Yes thanks, I've realised that now.

fatisnotafeeling · 04/10/2020 13:54

My temp is 36.9 and kids are 36.5 and 37.

I have an under arm one so will try that too. I've put the heating on as it's chilly in here.

His normal temp is 36.8 sorry for the typo in the OP.

Fairymad · 04/10/2020 13:54

Op has said the temp is normally 36.8 but now us 33-34 which is a lie temp, is the house chilly at all, if not I would get him checked, but change the thermometers batteries and recheck just in case, it could be a sign of infection

Fairymad · 04/10/2020 13:55

Low not lie

fatisnotafeeling · 04/10/2020 14:05

Ok so mine is 36.5 on the under arm one his is 33.2..

I've changed the batteries in the others and now they are throwing up all different temps for us all so looks like they are faulty. Ffs now only have the under arm one.

He does have ingrown toe nails on both big toes and they are very red I have been told to watch the redness but it hasn't spread still just on the top of his toes. We have an appointment on the 18th to get those sorted hopefully.
