Where can I get a hoody without a hood?

Dd has to wear PE kit all day once a week. As it’s a t shirt & a short skirt school have said they can wear it with a plain navy zip up top but it must not have a hood (school also said pandemic or no pandemic we will not less dress standards slip!!)
Where can I get a hoody without a hood? Needs to be warm but not fleece & must be plain navy (in ladies size, dd is age 15)

If the school are telling you you need something so specific they should be telling you where to get it!

WingingWonder · 29/09/2020 08:28

I would actually email the governors and ask that the uniform policy has fair consideration during a pandemic- people are losing jobs all over the place and the suggestion is a £98 spend?!
They should have a supply list available, otherwise can your child wear under layers be it base layers for sport or cami under shirt?

@chergar

I just would not entertain this nonsense. Instead of running around looking for the impossible, get together with the other parents and challenge the school, go to the local authority, go to the local newspaper, this is ridiculous.

Why are they making the pupils buy their own textbooks? Schools have a budget for this and should be supplying them, again this needs challenged.

Schools absolutely do not have a budget for this. My department had enough annual budget to buy at most 50 new text books each year - we taught 1500 students per year. Text books will last maybe five years if you are lucky before they are falling to pieces.

There is no way a state school has the budget to provide every student with their own copy of every text book. I don't diagree - it's ridiculous to expect parents to pay for text books, but schools don't have the money either.

I assume the school wants students to have their own copies because of covid? That just isn't practical. They need to be using printed worksheet or websites instead.

The school sounds like a complete nightmare! I couldn’t be bothered with that level of pedantry OP

nancy75 · 29/09/2020 08:55

@Flatpackback

Well presumably all her class are wearing one. Try asking on the school website/other parents etc. They must be available somewhere if everyone has to have one.
Not yet, because it hasn’t been cold, so last week most just wore PE kit for the day (t shirt & skort) Wearing it for the whole day is because of COVID - it’s getting colder now so just wearing a t shirt all day (with windows open) isn’t going to be ok.

Text books - yes own copies because of COVID. I’m fine with that, until they start telling me to spend another £100 on a blazer to wear once a week!

The school is ridiculous about uniform but I have ordered the bonmarche one found by minipie & hopefully that will be ok.
Dd is year 11, she won’t be staying at this school after GCSEs, I just want to get her through the last few months with minimal fuss - I haven’t got the energy for a battle with the school over a jumper!

She's not allowed fleece and it has to be plain. Other than that it's perfect 🙄

Did you actually read the OP's posts?

It has to be plain, no trim.

It's not being helpful if people keep posting links to things that have white/pink trim/fleece when she's not allowed those. If that's what you wanted it would have been a 2 min job to find one.

I despair of comprehension levels on MN.

But hey ho, if you're fine with the links around a wild goose chase I'll go & make coffee & leave you to it 😊

Good luck finding something suitable & warm! & finding a less ridiculous 6th form for DD🌷

nancy75 · 29/09/2020 09:15

MJMG2015 I know what you mean, but I feel like a cow for repeatedly saying no that’s wrong & that’s wrong ...Smile

The hunt for a reasonable 6th form is ongoing!

Blazwers don't have zips though do they so I'm confused by the schools reply

Thanks OP! I realised they were not quite right but sometimes when you find something almost right you can search for similar and it leads to the right thing. Anyway that BonMarche one looks perfect - and cheap! - so here's hoping it fits and meets school's approval!

Not sure what MJMG2015 was trying to achieve, her posts were just grumpy and pointless, even less helpful than mine.

AnotherEmma · 29/09/2020 09:52

The decathlon one looks good

nancy75 · 29/09/2020 09:59

I’ve saved the decathlon one just in case the one I’ve ordered is wrong (knowing the school I’m sure there will be something unacceptable about it!)

OP - don't want to come over as sarky but as I posted right at the start, could you not just get the £5 Primark one and do a careful sewing job on it? Would be the cheapest option?

Knittedfairies · 29/09/2020 10:31

If a local seamstress/seamster gets wind of this daft uniform policy, they could make a fortune! It wouldn't take that long for someone to make you one.

chuppachupchup · 29/09/2020 10:31

Where have others bought them from?? Confused

nancy75 · 29/09/2020 10:32

Chocolateteabag my sewing skills are worse than useless, seriously replacing a button is my limit! I can imagine doing it & the whole thing falling apart 5 minutes after Dd put it on.
