Film scenes that touched your heart!

Just that! Any scene in a film that even the thought of can send a wave of emotions over you?

For me, toy story 2, Jessies song, "when she loved you" 😭

I cry everytime. It makes me think of my little girl (age 2) she needs me now and I'll wipe away her tears and make her giggle, but one day I'll not be her whole world like I am now 🌍

The 'Slipping through my fingers' scene in the first Mama Mia has me ugly crying every time.

Spudina · 28/09/2020 18:41

I found out this weekend I still can’t watch ET without crying. Big hero 6 when his brother dies after his parents are already dead. The boy in the striped pyjamas in the Gas chamber.

myotherusernameisonholiday · 28/09/2020 18:45

Spoiler alert, just in case, The last man on Earth, series 4 I think, when Tandy finds out mike survived the virus and they sing Falling Slowly. Oh my god. it is supposed to be a comedy but everytime I watch it I weep. It's the way mike asks if he likes his (half shaved) hair cut and Tandy says 'i love it'. I'm welling up writing this.

I watch it on purpose sometimes when I think I need a good cry.

myotherusernameisonholiday · 28/09/2020 18:53

Oh and in deep impact when

Tia Leoni gives her seat in the helicopter to her journalist friend and her toddler so they can get to high ground

Elijah woods dad gives him his watch for 'something to trade' to get back to his wife Sarah

And when Sarah's mother straps her baby on to Sarah and sends them off on the motorbike with Elijah and says 'I'll see you soon' then just crumbles to the floor when they leave. She gives her the baby bag which is such a small thing but just what you would do.

Used to be ok but then had DC and now I am an emotional wreck around children's lives being in jeopardy on tv.

runningtogetskinny · 28/09/2020 18:55

Brokeback Mountain, where Ennis goes to Jack's mother's house and finds the two shirts one inside the other. I rarely cry at films but I could hardly talk for hours after seeing this 😢

YouveGotMeWhosGotYou · 28/09/2020 18:59

Whoopi Golldburg in the color purple. Cried through it all.

When Forrest asks Jenny if his son has learning difficulties.

When Edward Norton realizes he was being protected which is why he doesn't get attacked in prison. Very powerful.

Hatethewordhun · 28/09/2020 18:59

@LajesticVantrashell

Robin Williams telling Matt Damon "it's not your fault". Gets me every single time.
Yep 😭😭😭
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/09/2020 19:06

Cool runnings. They crash then carry the sled over the finish line.

Pashazade · 28/09/2020 19:14

God yes "Slipping through my fingers" breaks me, grew up with Abba and my mum died when I was a teenager so knowing that would never happen....Fortunately when I saw it at the theatre pre film I was with a childhood friend who silently handed me tissues whilst I sobbed.
Also the last scene in Moulin Rouge and yes Fry's dog in Futurama, so sad!

DaisyandRoses · 28/09/2020 19:18

Not a film but any episode of call the midwife. The pain that generation have been through is unimaginable.

The fault in our stars- most of it but especially his funeral.

P.s I love you- once again the whole thing is a cry fest but when she sings his song in the bar it almost broke me.

I also agree that About time is a brilliant and very underrated film. Very sad but so happy too- basically everything that is good about being alive.

Love, Rosie is a great film too- the end gets me every time. When she’s brought her little girl up as a single Mum, lost her Dad and she gets her fairytale in her new hotel with Alex.

Unevenbeard · 28/09/2020 19:20

When Heather dies in Highlander, it's the strings in the background gets me everytime

Sidge · 28/09/2020 19:28

In Forrest Gump when he says to Jenny - “I’m not a smart man Jenny, but I know what love is” as she’s walking away after he asked her to marry him. Absolute ugly crying at that bit.

And the end of Green Mile. Such an amazing film.

anothermansmother · 28/09/2020 19:30

@Pbbananabagel

The whole of ‘What dreams may come’ with Robin Williams
I came on to say the same! I love that film but it gets me every time.
JunoJigglewick · 28/09/2020 19:31

Coco - When Grandma Coco starts to sing along and starts for all about her father. I actually cry every time I think about it never mind watch it.

Veronica Guerin - the end. Oh god. Devastating.

The Family Stone - one of my favourite Christmas films but the scene with the Christmas presents and the final scene.

I cry at so many films now.

rockingthelook · 28/09/2020 20:53

Definitely the last bit of Benjamin Button when she holds him as he dies, so heartbreaking
Bridge to Terabithia when the girl dies and the boy sobs, so did I !
Still love Ghost when Sam is seen at the end by Molly

Graphista · 28/09/2020 21:10

I know we're talking movies rather than tv but I'm watching Bones for the umpteenth time and I'm on "the patriot in purgatory" which is an episode where the victim acted heroically on 9/11

Those familiar may know the episode, but even if you've not watched bones before I highly recommend this episode.

But the scene that moves me most is Arastoo's impassioned response to Finn's I'll thought out comment regarding Arastoo being a Muslim - like the bombers!

It's a speech where he is clearly both angry and sad, and says that his faith was "hijacked" that day by arrogant hypocrites.

It's very moving.

There's also a scene where the interns in this episode recall where they were when they heard the news.

Cam recalls giving the bad news to too many families as a coroner in New York that day, Wendell lost an uncle who was a firefighter.

Now I know they're fictional characters but I think it's moving not just because of love for the characters but because we know there will be real life people with those memories, losses and experiences.

For tv fans who need a cathartic cry, This is us - nearly every episode!

@myotherusernameisonholiday I think deep impact is a far better apocalypse movie than Armageddon which came out around the same time and did better at the box office I think

@YouveGotMeWhosGotYou (great username btw) I'm thinking you're talking about American history X? Incredible film I think everyone should watch at least once - but maybe zip through that kerb scene!

@Aroundtheworldin80moves John candy is another I struggle to watch his films now, comedians really understand human emotion so well in my opinion. For me though it's really planes, trains and automobiles when Steve Martins character realises John candy's doesn't have anyone

@JunoJigglewick omg yes re the family stone! Awesome film!

Graphista · 28/09/2020 21:14

ILL thought out comment - bloody autocorrect!

I also love arastoo's response regarding one of the others defending Finn as simply a 'foolish youngster who meant no offence"

"If he's not old enough to know he's certainly old enough to learn"

fewming · 28/09/2020 21:48

Oh, loads!

Legends of the Fall - at the end when Aiden Quinn steps out and shoots his colleagues to protect the father who was so sneering of him (and the reaction and reunion with Anthony Hopkins, oh how I sobbed)

A Little Princess when the father regains his memory just as Sara is being dragged away, screaming for him

Meet Joe Black - "should I be afraid?" "Not a man like you" That film made me ugly cry

Death of Littlefoot's mother in The Land Before Time, after she fought the T-Rex so bravely to save him

The "Book of Love" scene near the end of Shall We Dance - the sight of sexy Richard Gere turning up in his suit to dance with his wife is just SO romantic and uplifting

Baby Mine from Dumbo, SOB

Homeward Bound - reunion with Shadow and Peter

The Greatest Showman, when the disfigured homeless lady gave young Hugh Jackman the apple. That was an unexpected little onion-eye moment!

TV-wise:

The end of the Office Christmas special, when Dawn turns up and kisses Tim so tenderly. Most perfect ending to any series, ever 😍

Friends TOWT Prom Video - I know I need say no more!

Usernamealreadyexists · 28/09/2020 21:53

I don’t think I’ve come across a scene which broke my heart as the one in Manchester by Sea when the ex-couple meet by chance and she has a new baby. I was mesmerized by the rawness of it as I lost a child and could relate to the story and devastation that reverberates after such a a tragedy.

Graphista · 28/09/2020 22:01

@fewming for me Friends wise it's chandler speech to Erica to convince her to still let them adopt her baby

Chandlerr* : My wife's an incredible woman. She's loving and devoted and caring. And don't tell her I said this, but the woman's always right... I love my wife more than anything in this world. And I... it kills me that I can't give her a baby... I really want a kid. And when that day finally comes, I'll learn how to be a good dad. But my wife... she's already there. She's a mother... without a baby... Please?

Ginger1982 · 28/09/2020 22:10

The end of 'A League of Their Own' when Madonna's 'This Used To Be My Playground' is playing and all the real women baseball players are playing again. Not quite sure why it makes me cry but it always does!

Ron1984 · 28/09/2020 22:13

St Elmo’s fire when Rob Lowe talks to Demi Moore after breaking in her apartment ❤️

myotherusernameisonholiday · 28/09/2020 22:16

@Graphista I totally agree! I have seen both and can't understand why Armageddon is the more popular of the two, especially as Deep impact has Morgan Freeman!

I forgot the scene where the astronauts say goodbye to their families. The whole second half of the film I can't talk I'm crying too much. I probably shouldn't watch it too much Grin

AdoreTheBeach · 28/09/2020 22:18

I’m another one for Terms of Endearment but for me it’s saying goodbye to her children, especially the little one crying. Such wise words to her son to let him know she knows he loves her

m.youtube.com/watch?v=PuvONUFArdI

fewming · 28/09/2020 22:18

@Graphista I'm a Ross and Rachel fan, but yep that scene totally got me too!! Very moving from Chandler ❤️
