How much is your car insurance?

I'm looking at renewal soon, cheapest is £784 p/a. I've had my licence for 3 and a half years, have been driving for 3 of them. I'm 24 now and would have expected it to become a bit cheaper but it hasn't really! I haven't claimed since I've been driving or had any accidents.

How much is yours?

£450 ish and that's with 12 years no claims. My OH has been driving 1.5 years and his is about the same though, because he has a cheaper car with smaller engine.

It varies so much based on all the options though so take a look at the money saving expert website for tips before renewal!

Trinacham · 27/09/2020 19:19

£300 (includes breakdown cover). This is for a car driven by 2 people and we've been driving 8-9 years (28 and 30 years old)

WestTen · 27/09/2020 19:20

@Mmsnet101 Wow that's cheap, I'm envious. Wish I could get mine down that much! Will definitely look at tips, my car insurance at the moment is £120 a month..

Get this, it was £1600. Max no claims .Just changed it, it’s £500.
Just keep shopping around

FizzyPink · 27/09/2020 19:24

Ours has just dropped to £40pm for the two of us who have both been driving 10 years and with 1 years no claims. We also drive a small polo which helps.

It was a lot more until this year, DP was banned a few years ago and also had a couple of crashes which pushed it right up

GetTheStartyParted · 27/09/2020 19:28

Approx £220 a year fully comp. I have a small car, had no accidents and so on. When I first passed, around 15 years ago, it was £800 a year.

Sarahp2308 · 27/09/2020 19:29

Around £500-£550 P/A, depends on where you live, make and model of the vehicle etc aswell as your driving experience, I’ve had my licence 6 & 1/2 years, with one claim 4 years ago and I am 29. Have you tried adding somebody like a parent on for some reason it brought my insurance down alot for the first few years.

Twinklelittlestar1 · 27/09/2020 19:31

£300

MeanMrMustardSeed · 27/09/2020 19:31

Get quotes 21 days before it’s due to renew. MSE did a study and found out that this time gets the best deals (all based on risk based assumptions).

safariboot · 27/09/2020 19:33

It's pointless asking anyone who doesn't live in the same area as you. Location is a major factor.

latheritup · 27/09/2020 19:33

Similar age and driving history as you, mine is £430. It really does depend on your car and where you live mostly. It will drop when you hit 25.

Sarahp2308 · 27/09/2020 19:36

@safariboot is right, I moved 5 minutes down the road, but a different postcode...price went up by about £50-£100

grassgreenthisside · 27/09/2020 19:36

£300-£350

Been driving 3 years, 3 years no claims
10k annual mileage

It's based on a lot more than though, your home address, where it's parked, your job, who else is on the Insurance, if you have access to other vehicles, all reduces or increases it

Martin Lewis has a good page explaining how to twiddle your answers legally to get the best result

Doingitaloneandproud · 27/09/2020 19:36

I'm 36, mines £650 per annum, 70 plate Audi SUV, London based though, location impacts insurance

MondeoFan · 27/09/2020 19:38

£180 year for 2 people been driving 30 years though

pointythings · 27/09/2020 19:43

Your location matters massively. Mine is about £235 for a big powerful estate car. I do have 15 years no claims though - but most of it is where I live. It's a very low crime country town.

OhTheRoses · 27/09/2020 19:44

£450ish. Off road parking. Driving since 1978 - two accidents - neither my fault and excess paid. 2L SUV.

Fallulah · 27/09/2020 19:45

About £190 but I drive a little car (think Fiesta/Yaris size), nearly 40, with 5 years no claims, car parked on driveway or in work car park, nice area. Putting my slightly older partner on as named driver brings it down by about £20 too.
It’s taken years to get it this low though - I remember when it was over £1000!

ScarMatty · 27/09/2020 19:45

£800. Been driving 7 years. No claims etc.

MrsBeltane · 27/09/2020 19:47

£480 for 2 of us. I'm in my 50's, he's in his 40's. Both been driving for over 20 years.

SendHelp30 · 27/09/2020 19:50

Mines £680pa. Age 30 & had my license 12 years. 1 blameless accident 3 years ago. No points.
2L SUV

GoldenPlover · 27/09/2020 19:54

£32 a month - I think if I'd have paid it outright it would have been about £340/£350 but I can't remember the exact figure.

I am in my late 20s and have 7 years no claims

chelle862 · 27/09/2020 20:00

32, driving 14 years with 14 years no claims, golf, Bradford postcode 🙈 £295

WheresZazu · 27/09/2020 20:03

3k a year because I’ve just passed and live in a shitty area weeps

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 27/09/2020 20:04

Mine is £250 fully comp including breakdown cover - I'm 41 & been driving for 24 years.

DD is 20, been driving for a year & her renewal was £1500 but shopping around got that down to around £600.
