How much is your car insurance?

I'm looking at renewal soon, cheapest is £784 p/a. I've had my licence for 3 and a half years, have been driving for 3 of them. I'm 24 now and would have expected it to become a bit cheaper but it hasn't really! I haven't claimed since I've been driving or had any accidents.

How much is yours?

Mine is about £250, but I've been driving 38years.
My ds's has now come down to about £800, he's had insurance for 3 yrs.
However, there are lots of factors coming in to play. A key one being your postcode.
My dd's dropped by over £400 when she moved from here, to where she lives now.

Nicola345 · 27/09/2020 20:11

Mine is £451, I've also been driving just over 3 years, my first year was over £1300. Maybe try one that fits a black box.

BeakyWinder · 27/09/2020 20:12

£280 this year. Mine was 700 ish 4 years ago so it has come steadily down after I turned 25.

BeakyWinder · 27/09/2020 20:13

Out of interest, is there a map or something of "bad" postcodes for car insurance?

Lolaloveslemonade · 27/09/2020 20:15

£300
I can’t believe some of the amounts on here... I do drive a 10 year old car though and live in a quiet area.

Lolaloveslemonade · 27/09/2020 20:16

and I’m middle aged.

OldEvilOwl · 27/09/2020 20:16

Just under £200/year. Im 44 and ive been driving since I was 17. There are some benefits to getting old!
Are you looking at an annual payment not paying monthly as you will save a lot if you can pay it in one go

SaveUsername123456 · 27/09/2020 20:17

When I had a My small car it was around
£350 PA. Purchased a Mercedes it went up to £500 PA. now I've moved cities and the current area I am in is one of the worst postcode. Now have been quoted £1500 PA. however, I look at it as it won't be for long as we're looking to buy a house soon and move out of this area.

ExclamationPerfume · 27/09/2020 20:17

£400 driving 26 years. Put someone older on your policy even if they never drive your car. I have my Dad on mine as it brings the price down. Always shop around every year.

redlockscelt · 27/09/2020 20:18

£170 full no claims, fully comprehensive

movingonup20 · 27/09/2020 20:19

£370 (2 years no claims) cheap area to insure though

Tempusfudgeit · 27/09/2020 20:22

Last time I moved house, my premium went down by £30 - yay. Subject to a £35 admin fee - gits.

Flamingosarentreal · 27/09/2020 20:25

£165, four years NC. Been driving for 20 years, only one accident in that time. Small car kept in the garage at home and secure car park at work

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 27/09/2020 20:25

£220. 2yr old diesel, sporty engine. Nice car. But have been driving 15yrs so perhaps makes a difference plus no claims

Margo34 · 27/09/2020 20:27

£350ish, could have been much cheaper but wanted roadside recovery and home recovery (from previous experience of breaking down twice outside my house).

4 years NCD for me, DH named driver but him with a claim 6 months ago. Mid 30s.

mrscee · 27/09/2020 20:38

myapplegreenjumper · 27/09/2020 20:38

nitgel · 27/09/2020 20:42

Blimey mine is 704 I've been driving 20 years and have a small car no claims.

nitgel · 27/09/2020 20:43

Live north london

Bearlyclearly · 27/09/2020 20:50

Did mine today, renewal was £99 month i shopped around and got it down to £59 month. I’ve been driving for 8 years with no claims but live in a dodgy area and my car is parked in my buildings open car park at night which I don’t thinks helps.

mindutopia · 27/09/2020 21:01

Mine is £250 but been driving probably 9 years now, no claims, rural area.

Shmithecat2 · 27/09/2020 21:06

45, driving license for over 25 years, full no claims, rural area, garage, 2.7L 4x4, I think it's about £450 a year. There are so many variables - location, age, history, car group etc etc.

Thegingerpig · 27/09/2020 21:39

£220 per year. Been driving for 23 years, many years no claims and drive a fiesta. Never paid more than £450, even when I first passed. Live in a low crime area though which helps.

tobypercy · 27/09/2020 21:40

I seem to remember my premium dropped massively when I turned 25.

Work through the process here for your best chance:

JukeBoxHero · 27/09/2020 23:03

Just gone up from £198 to £280. The £198 was for a fiat 500 though and I have gone for something substantially larger ☺️

When my kids were young and I needed cheap and cheerful I had a Morris minor. It was under £100 on a classic policy, no road tax and there was the added bonus of their mortified faces at pick up.
