Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 4: Calmly through the day

Curry I hope you do not mind?
I put the last message in, and didn't find a new thread. Which I found disquiting, so to calm my nerves here goes.

We had sausages cooked in cider with fresh bread and apple pie and custard for pudding. I feel quite human again.

DH has deteriorated to the point that he has replaced his shorts with trousers. He last wore a pair of trousers in March...! It’s clearly very serious here.

His voice has also dropped to Lee Marvin levels, so was singing ‘Wandering Star’ to DS earlier - DS was supplying the supplementary do-do-do bits. ❤️

aceyace · 04/10/2020 20:00

I've got my new pjs on but the bottoms are a bit too big

MutteringDarkly · 04/10/2020 21:17

@Spudlet that meal sounds amazing!

MissConductUS · 04/10/2020 21:49

DH did make the bed. I waited until he was almost done then "noticed" he was doing it and helped with the pillows and pillow cases. I had a lovely nap for about an hour when we were done.

I've just made my lunch for tomorrow and we have a Zoom call shortly with DS at uni and my MIL. After that DH is doing grilled chicken on the BBQ and rice for dinner. Leftover apple pie is sure to come out for dessert.

I'm studiously ignoring a pile of unmatched running gloves and socks, hoping that a spirit will come along and go through them for me.

Spudlet · 04/10/2020 21:53

@MutteringDarkly

It’s an autumn special! Seriously easy. You chop in half and then brown half a dozen sausages and a crushed clove of garlic in a casserole dish, then mix in some potatoes that have been roughly quartered, half an apple sliced up, a tablespoon of Dijon mustard, then put in 300mls of cider and stir it all up. Put the lid on and bung it in the oven at about 150 for an hour, or longer at a lower temperature. It’s just the thing at this time of year! We had some steamed broccoli and some of those part baked bread rolls with it. I never make it in summer so it’s been months - I love autumn stews and casseroles, they make me feel all cosy. 😊

Imissmoominmama · 05/10/2020 05:28

I have a big blister on the sole of my foot.

Frownette · 05/10/2020 05:45

@giletrouge I was in a quandry, it was all over the scanner bit, I was about to blow it off then realised I was wearing a mask. So I bleated pitifully for an assistant and guiltily put my flour covered basket away and got outside and tried to brush myself down.

My unexciting news is that we were freezing yesterday until I cooked for an hour and then it felt like the tropics and we had to open the front door to cool down.

TheKrakening3 · 05/10/2020 05:50

I have always used my wooden floor cleaner on my wooden floors when mopping and would change the water bucket and use a different cleaner to do the tiled bathrooms. Yesterday I used the wooden floor cleaner on the tiles and it came up fine. No bucket changing faff!

NameAChange · 05/10/2020 07:30

I have decided to buy a new plant for my home office as I am bored of it looking the same.

giletrouge · 05/10/2020 07:52

Is it really Monday? Again?
Today - try and write 2000 words like I managed to do yesterday. That would be a result.
Make sure the fridge is ready for 'the big shop', and the put said shop away.
Flop about aimlessly.
(Two out of three will do 😉).

giletrouge · 05/10/2020 11:54

Do these threads go quiet on Mondays?
Are you all living your exciting weekday lives? 🤔
We're having dinner for lunch today. The reasons are all shopping related. I'm going to make an omelette/tortilla type thing with brocolli.

I've written my first 150 words of the day - always a relief.

OublietteBravo · 05/10/2020 12:11

I have a day off. I have spent the morning washing the skirting boards and applying masking tape. This afternoon I will paint them.

Frownette · 05/10/2020 12:13

Tortilla is gorgeous. At least you've made a start with writing!

Hmm, how dull can I be...I'm dying to get to the kettle but don't want to get in the way of a work training video call

Spudlet · 05/10/2020 12:26

I’ve been looking for dog training courses. There are many, many such courses. Tis a minefield. There are also many, many membership organisations... I have no clue which is the best regarded at this point.

I have also emailed the village hall people to see if I could use that as a potential venue for classes. Exciting / scary times!

NancyBotwinBloom · 05/10/2020 12:35

Have you looked at dogs trust @Spudlet

NancyBotwinBloom · 05/10/2020 12:37

I have to put the washing away and the bedding back on. I've been putting it off all morning.

But on the plus side I have one of those duvets from John Lewis where you put the whole thing in the wash and doesn't need a separate duvet cover. It's changed my life.

Spudlet · 05/10/2020 12:38

No I haven’t - I didn’t think they offered that sort of thing. I’ll have a look now Smile

kitschplease · 05/10/2020 12:39

I have sorted the kids' pen/crayon/sharpie pots - last did this in March and lots have dried up or lost lids since then. I also cleaned the shelf they live on and have stacked homework books there, as these no longer go to and from school. The best bit? I did this while on a work call so got paid for it Grin.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 05/10/2020 12:46

To use up yogurt try this
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/lemon-curd-blueberry-loaf-cake
Rather too delicious but needs must 😋

giletrouge · 05/10/2020 13:16

Ah, yoghurt in cake - now you're talking. Thank you! That's exactly the kind of inspiration I was after.

Frownette · 05/10/2020 13:25

giletrouge found that exciting, not dull Grin

giletrouge · 05/10/2020 13:28

Frownette you've rumbled me. I am not a naturally undramatic person, I'm sort of trying it on to see if I can do it...
But yes, cake excites me... Grin
If I get too rowdy boot me off the thread, it'll be good for me.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 05/10/2020 13:44

I need a different size pair of knitting needles out. The knitting needle box lives under the bed. Rummaging under the bed to get the box will transfer large quantities of dust to the bedroom carpet. The carpet is cream and will need to be hoovered.

Staying curled up in an armchair and finishing my book is the better option really, isn't it?

Mypathtriedtokillme · 05/10/2020 14:15

Had a bbq for my MIL’s 70th birthday today.
Made her a hummingbird cake (Her favourite) that I couldn’t eat cause I’m allergic to bananas.

Apparently it was nice.
I know the icing was delicious when I ate it with a spoon before it made it anywhere near the cake.

QuestionableMouse · 05/10/2020 14:44

I really need some new socks. I'm down to two pairs and have no idea where all the others have gone. Tesco seems to have stopped selling the one I like (men's navy bamboo dress socks) which were lovely and soft and just the right amount of stretchy.

I'm meant to be doing uni work but woke up with a headache so I'm avoiding it. Feel like having a nap actually.
