Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

There's at article in the Times saying there is a high risk of false positives due to the Bluetooth, don't want to risk that...also only works on some phones.. I'm not that attached to my phone anyway and would need to carry it everywhere. It would just stress me out

Oh and they are also saying people can delete places they have logged into like pubs etc, off it after anyway!

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2020 17:53

I’m in Scotland and don’t have any objection to the app in principle, but I’m not sure how sensitive it is and don’t want pinged all the time as I’m only out in places where I’m not in close contact, but my phone might think I am. I’ll await reports on this.

Pleasedontdothat · 24/09/2020 18:00

Checking in, flauntingly .. I too am out of cooperation for the moment and I won’t be rushing to download the app. Now you have to wear sodding masks in restaurants I won’t be eating out again in a hurry anyway ...

And can I sixth/seventh/whatever @ISaySteadyOn - I don’t post as much as some of you but these threads have been a link to sanity over the last few months - thank you, all of you

SpnBaby1967 · 24/09/2020 18:01

6 months ago I would have downloaded it in a heartbeat.

Now, I just dont trust it. How can it know if I'm stood next to someone, or next to someone with 2 car doors between us at traffic lights, or with a wall between us?

Are we all going to have to isolate as we walk past number 69 who logged that they tested positive as our bluetooth connects to theirs? What if I stop to chat to the postman outside the infected persons house and they're close to me but with brick between them? Will it think I've been in proximity for 15 minutes??

Nope, dont trust it.

Taswama · 24/09/2020 18:02

My response @Ibake would be to forget to reply in the first instance and see if he notices /follows up.
If he does, you can always say your phone is too old or just tell him you have if you don't think he'll check.
My boss is terrible at following up so the above method works for me quite well if I'm asked to do pointless things.

SpnBaby1967 · 24/09/2020 18:06

Oh and I may not get on here often but these threads are a lifeline.

Not because they're AD, but because we dont all tell people off for just wanting some normality back and not wanting to tell joe bloggs our medical history when they demand to know why we cant wear a mask.

We are decent people, not yelling diddums at other folk.

We question what we hear, we question what we think, we listen to what others think, we dont judge......well except the mumsnetter who suggested putting cheese in coffee...we judge her!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 24/09/2020 18:14

We had a bagel with a willy this morning. The kids were rolling on the floor and didn’t want to tell me - eventually they brought it over and I squinted (dark and no bins). Indeed. A bagel with a willy! I’d have got a photo but it was bitten off.

I’m not downloading any apps unless they’ve got candy or zombies in them. If that means I can only buy what I can have delivered so be it.

Once again in my part of Scotland I’ve got a higher chance of lassoing a haggis than catching corvid.

RobinHobb · 24/09/2020 18:21

@Worldgonecrazy

Thirded. On those days when I struggle and feel like the only sane person, you lot keep me going.
God me too This is the only thing that kept me sane during lockdown Thank you all
Orangeblossom7777 · 24/09/2020 18:26

Just been reading about the madness with students in Scotland, hundreds have tested positive and now they have banned any students from going to the pub, police presence etc, sounds pretty dramatic..

I've had it for a couple of week, it hasn't pinged at all.
justasking111 · 24/09/2020 18:40

OH and I agreed no app. too unreliable distance wise my boffin OH said so that is ok. He leaves his in the house most of the time anyway.

BrazenlyDefying · 24/09/2020 18:50

World's oldest AD on the Scottish news at the mo.

Poor old 104 year old women in a care home saying she feels like she's in prison, not allowed to leave and not allowed to see her family and hug her grandchildren. Poor old lady.

Reedwarbler · 24/09/2020 18:52

I certainly won't have the app - I've only got a 'dumb' phone.
Completely changing the subject, I can't believe it's nearly October. I heard my oh going up into the attic earlier. When he came down I mentioned that it's only 8 weeks or so until he will be back up there for the Christmas decorations. Feeling all autumnal and will be making chutney this weekend. (Not much else to do, is there?) What is everyone else up to?

BillywilliamV · 24/09/2020 18:56

My God, they’re arresting young people for being young people, can anything really justify this? What are we going to be left with at the end of this?

dingit · 24/09/2020 18:57

My ds has just almost short circuited my heart. He is doing an apprenticeship working from home with very little to do or support. As a treat he has weeks at college- online. We were chatting tonight about the last six months and he said that there have been times that he's felt he's losing his mind. He 19 Sad

AgentCooper · 24/09/2020 18:59

DH’s dad was recently in hospital with an impacted bowel and it was awful, he’s 85, he was in pain and confused and wasn’t allowed visitors. Thankfully SIL works at the hospital and was allowed to pop in to see him. He’s home now and doing well but DH has said he’s not going to stop seeing his parents. He and his sister were asked to sign a DNR but refused. They both say that if, God forbid, their dad isn’t around much longer then they want him to be happy and see his children and grandchildren. This is SIL who works for the NHS.

It’s gone too far.

BillywilliamV · 24/09/2020 18:59

Buy it’s okay dingit, he’s SAFE!!

Littlebelina · 24/09/2020 19:04

I definitely judge cheese in coffee person!

How are they going to check if you are/aren't a student when going into the pub? Start patting people down for nhs cards?

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2020 19:15

@BrazenlyDefying you out and about in restaurants and the like? That’s where I’d worry

justasking111 · 24/09/2020 19:27

Leeds folk are getting jittery it really is getting bad there and yep students will not be helping. The uni. is playing it down alleging six cases, well I happen to know they are lying. But is it better to lie and let the students catch it and recover I really don`t know.

Re. downloading the app: Saint Boris is going have to offer SUBSTANTIAL incentives, such as TOTAL immunity from lockdown, or swearing on pain of having his ugly head cut off that this will be over by March 2021, before I’ll even consider it. Or I might just entertain the idea if he admits he was wrong about something, or sacks Dominic Cummings.

Until then, he can dream; which he spends his working life doing anyway.

DominaShantotto · 24/09/2020 19:32

Those poor students - totally mis-sold on the fact they could still have a "campus experience" with "blended learning" and now finding they're basically stuck in their rooms (literally if they get a case and have to isolate)... and now they can't even go home for a weekend and might have to stay there at Christmas.

And there are fuckwits saying they knew the risks when they went away to uni.

wanderings · 24/09/2020 19:44

Is anyone else thinking: now that the clowns have played the total doom and gloom card, to make everybody resigned and docile, they’re now going to tell us “good news” that isn’t good news at all, such as the Orwellian app, or a million new tests, to make the number of “cases” even higher?

justasking111 · 24/09/2020 19:51

My DS will come home at xmas come what may.

I honestly do wonder how many are going to drop out now.

Littlebelina · 24/09/2020 19:54

@justasking111

My DS will come home at xmas come what may.

I honestly do wonder how many are going to drop out now.

I was thinking that, why would you stay if you thought you couldn't get home at Xmas? If it was me and my course was fully online I think I'd sack off the cost of accommodation and head home...
