Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

@countrygirl99 lots of us in our hall got a vile cold a few days after the Christmas party. No one batted an eyelid.

justasking111 · 27/09/2020 14:27
@TheOrchidKiller if I was a student in those halls I would be setting up mass parties so very soon virtually everyone who is going to catch would have had it and positive tests would be a thing of the past. I can't imagine that clinically vulnerable students would be in halls this year.
But they are not giving the all clear, crack on to past covid sufferers. They are still behaving as if there is no immunity.

BrazenlyDefying · 27/09/2020 14:31

Well I have lived up to my user name and have flouted, flaunted and brazenly defied all morning.

As of Friday I am a student. That means that, according to Nicola, I should not be going to restaurants, pubs or bars. I BRAZENLY took the kids on a walk to the park and then BLATANTLY bought them an ice cream and me a coffee. And FLOUTED THE ROOLZ by sitting on a park bench to drink it.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/09/2020 14:39

@BrazenlyDefying you mean you gave your kids ice cream? In this weather?
You utter rebel!
I fancy a raspberry ripple now, although it's a bit chilly.

BrazenlyDefying · 27/09/2020 14:45

Gorgeously sunny and warm in the sun in the west of Scotland. Chilly in the wind though and there was frost on the grass this morning.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/09/2020 14:48

Frost already!
Wearing long sleeves for the first time in months, & not enjoying it.

Ibake · 27/09/2020 14:56

I know we've all had our allegiances challenged over recent months and the world feels like it has turned upside down when you find yourself nodding at DM articles and loathing the Guardian. But I think this might be a step too far for most of us. Or will it?!Grin

Not sure my brain can cope with that level of topsy turvy fucked upness

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8777709/Nigel-Farage-threatens-launch-anti-lockdown-party-hit-hits-Boris-Johnsons-restrictions.html

thenightsky · 27/09/2020 15:05

Fuck sake... never thought I'd find myself nodding in agreement with Farage. Shock

countrygirl99 · 27/09/2020 15:33

â–ª@justasking111 but hopefully by Christmas there wouldn't be positive results to justify imprisoning the students

BogRollBOGOF · 27/09/2020 15:52

@Willow2017

ReedWarbler I think the gov will become the big benevolent Santa Clause and say about a week before Xmas that we can now have it for being good little boys and girls. 😠 Boris doesn't want any more nicknames, The Grinch is a step too far😉
This is my hope. I'm pretty sure that there won't be 90% compliance like there was at Easter... That was still within the original 3 weeks.

Some family, I haven't seen since last Christmas with the way lockdown fell.
It's 11 months since we went to the ILs or saw some of my extended family (who I see infrequently, but we have a deep connection). It's the fact that we can't see them that cuts. That it hasn't been viable to make plans and book hotels to do it. That the whole balance of life has been turned upside-down and held there.

I managed to cry a little on my run as I went past my church. Not enough. There will be more to come. I know why I cried in June (peopled out and lonely). I'm not sure what this building up in me in recent days has been. I think it's bigger, more vague and at the risk of sounding like a Stark, Winter is coming.
The run was good though. I chatted to an aquaintence for about 10 minutes. I had a sing, including a bit of Cheryl Crow "All I wanna do is have some fun" while running past people. Admittedly channeling my inner Kate Bush is not at its best while actually running up that hill Grin

But it's lovely sunshine, the conservatory feels simmery and this moment is on the good side of decent.

Willow2017 · 27/09/2020 16:06

Admittedly channeling my inner Kate Bush is not at its best while actually running up that hill

Love it😄

Tbh channelling my inner Kate Bush is only ok if nobody around for a great distance. I think its ace but I think Kate might disagree once she stops hysterically laughing!

Littlebelina · 27/09/2020 16:53

It's freezing here, had to put heating on for an hour yesterday! Not looking forward to restrictions in a wet, cold winter Sad.

Voting for Nige is a definitely still a step too far for me!

It was a busy path in a busy park, but singing is good for social distancing. Grin
countrygirl99 · 27/09/2020 17:07

@BogRollBOGOF my singing is certainly good for social distancing! I know what you mean about the vague feeling. I've been really flat and prone to crying this weekend. We've had a tough few weeks, the weather here has been cold and windy so I haven't ridden, there just feels like theree is nothing to look forward to. Trips I was planning but hadn't booked are now no hopers. Next year is our ruby wedding and by now we should have been planning a special holiday but that's all on hold. And we don't even have nice weather to look forward to, just rain and mud.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/09/2020 17:21

I've got a bit more balance and some kind of weekly routine back. It is a massive improvement in daily life. I think it's just that were so graciously allowed about 10 days before the roolz of shitz rule of six came in hotly followed by more threats, localised clampdowns and the full on reprise of dementoring. While I'm fortunately not caught up in those, they make me sad or angry and it's the general tone of uncertainty that's hard to avoid, and no imminent end in sight.

RobinHobb · 27/09/2020 18:24

Dds birthday party in two weeks; only 3 kids invited but have gone all out to make it special. With over priced entertainer and all their favourite things

I wonder if we will make it to Saturday 10 October without any more bull shit rules?

110APiccadilly · 27/09/2020 18:31

I think BoJo may well get some sort of Brexit done and then resign, myself. The interesting question is who replaces him. Sunak's more likely to let us have some life back than Patel. But we shall see.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 27/09/2020 18:39

@DorsetBlueMovie - that's great news! We're still waiting our results. That said, I've got a migraine on the brink of brewing all day, so not being able to go to work tomorrow might be good, although it might mean tomorrow is a minecraft day for the dcs again

Its not Christmas day im worried about, im pretty sure they will just accept noone will stick to the rules so there will be blind eyes turned to groups of 8/10, just not parties of 30+. But its the festive season I'll miss. Normally the start of October is when the meals out and drinks events are planned, we start the first 2 weeks of December juggling whos going out when and which nights will need babysitters- and I start looking at party dresses. None of that will be happening this year.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 27/09/2020 18:40

@RobinHobb - I think you should be fine for a little party like that. Even if it has changed, I'd host something that small anyway.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/09/2020 18:43

Sunak's more likely to let us have some life back than Patel.

Patel- noooooooooooo!
The thought of the constant in-yer-face media coverage of a leadership election, in the thick of Brexit & Covid is too much. Have we not suffered enough?!

The only up-side is that they might report less on covid for a few weeks. A bit of variety in the doom, as it were.

@BogRollBOGOF
Sometimes you've just gotta let it all out.

Cattermole · 27/09/2020 18:51

Funny thing, when I am obliged to spend all day on the laptop working and consequently spend a good deal of time browsing news sites while waiting for work-things to happen, I am miserable as fuck.
Today I have been to the beach, finished weaving a horrible grey Herdwick wool (it's going to be a 17th century jacket and it itches like chuff, but ooo get me in my hand woven jacket) and done some embroidery, and am generally feeling At One With The World. Not been anywhere near the news and feel all the better for it.

WouldBeGood · 27/09/2020 19:13

I think the DM and right wing plan is for Gove to succeed.

CruCru · 27/09/2020 19:46

Am getting a bit twitchy about the possibility of a London local lockdown. Leicester now has businesses allowed to open but people are still not allowed to meet up - from memory, Leicester was locked down a couple of months ago. So it isn't as though a London lockdown would only take a fortnight.

Sorry, I'm fretting. It doesn't do any good.

A local pub has put all their Christmas decorations and lights up. Its all over my local fb.

Not sure if anyone remembers about 10 threads ago I mentioned the theory that the more depressed the spirit of the nation is, the earlier the Christmas lights go up?
