Today I properly lost my temper and feel shitty about it

My sons 16, autistic, was playing footy in park with my other 2 teen kids,

Same age kid lays into him verbally - mocking him, squaring up to him - my autistic son starts getting distressed

This has been going on for ages

I've never been there

I've taught my kids to say nothing. Walk away. They do this.

Except I was walking nearby today.

Saw it myself.

Literally saw red.

I can't explain it but I marched over. Said to my guys to walk back home please.

Asked to have a word.

Called the kid a prick and told him if he ever fucking started on my son again, I'd make known his relentless bullying behaviour to his parents - that plus his recent drug taking habit (common knowledge where we live). I was fuming.

But he's only 16 (nearly 17).

I feel terrible.

I don't know what happened.

I literally saw red.

I'm ashamed of myself. I really bollocked him.

Yay! You go OP. Well done!!! I would have done the same thing.

Scautish · 20/09/2020 20:49

Well done. You did the right thing.

nitsandwormsdodger · 20/09/2020 20:49

I have no clue why you are giving yourself such a hard time ?
They were bullying a sen kid and being threatening towards him ??? Think you were v retrained
If I knew the parents and the school I'd would have told the parents the first time it happened

Coolcatsandkittens · 20/09/2020 20:50

Good for you OP, the little bastard deserved it. I wouldn’t have hesitated to do the same for my DC Flowers

Staffy1 · 20/09/2020 20:51

Good for you. You would always regret it if you didn't say anything and it escalated and had an even worse affect on your DS.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 20/09/2020 20:52

You did the right thing! The right thing to stand up for your son, and hopefully the pathetic bully might think twice before picking on another supposedly easy victim.

Bloody well done!

areallthenamesusedup · 20/09/2020 20:53

well done OP

SirGawain · 20/09/2020 20:55

Bullies are basically cowards who depend on aggression to protect themselves. I learned many years ago that they won’t stop until someone stands up to them. You did that and he got what was coming. He’s lucky that it wasn’t someone more physical who might have given him a real pasting. Well done OP

tillytoodles1 · 20/09/2020 20:55

Don't be upset, I'd have been livid. Kids like that deserve a good telling off because they've probably never had one before.

Pixie2015 · 20/09/2020 20:55

Don’t feel bad he shouldn’t of been a bully - hope you ok x

bouncydog · 20/09/2020 20:55

Very well done. People with disabilities need others to stand up for them. A family member (much older than your son) has had people trying to take advantage for years. Luckily my OH and nephew don’t stand for it and will speak up. Hopefully the bully will change his ways.

bouncydog · 20/09/2020 20:56

Sorry should have mentioned she is autistic.

akerman · 20/09/2020 20:56

Good for you, OP. I regret never having bollocked the kids who bullied my son. I’d have cheered you on.

BlackSwan · 20/09/2020 20:57

You did completely the right thing. Good on you. Little weasel - taught him a lesson.

Elderflower14 · 20/09/2020 20:59

You absolutely did the right thing..... I did similar on the tube a few years ago... My ds has autism and is profoundly deaf... A guy kicked him on the foot and told him to be quiet..
By the time I'd finished with him he was rendered silent as was the whole carriage...
I salute you!!

CaraDuneRedux · 20/09/2020 21:00

Well done OP.

(I've done similar on occasion - I don't buy this "never bollock other people's kids" nonsense. If other people's kids are being little shits, they deserve to be bollocked.)

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/09/2020 21:01

I would still tell his parents about his drug taking and his bullying. Shouting at him wasn't enough. Your probably not the first time have done it. These type of kids don't give a fuck.

SirGawain · 20/09/2020 21:02

@MushMonster

Well if it is known that he has taken to drugs why haven't you told the parents yet? And same for his bullying behaviour. He is still a child under his parents care. If they are not told, they are missing the chance to correct it. I tell my lot to do what you have done yourself if the offender is repetitive or crosses the line. They have to stand up for themselves or they get treated like muck. I would not loose any sleep about it. Hopefully this kid stays away from yours.
They probably couldn’t give a toss. He learned behaviour like that from somewhere!
Cherry83 · 20/09/2020 21:04

Lioness protecting her cubs springs to mind. I detest confrontation but I would have done the same. Do not lose sleep over this. The boy needed telling. Hopefully he will think twice next time.

keepmeloggedon · 20/09/2020 21:06

I would do similar in similar circs, but a 16 year old taking drugs bullying hanging out being a pain in a park and seeming to not give a monkeys about what you said is not in a good place, and I would be worried it might/could escalate, I would just bear that in mind.

And i also agree with you, 16 is young, with the right help they could get back on track - not that it is your responsibility by any means, but just saying i agree, 16 is young.

Iwonder777 · 20/09/2020 21:06

Thanks guys

Word on the street or at the park rather was that I said the f word

How ever will I live it down in this small town 😂

Oldbagface · 20/09/2020 21:06

Well done you. My two youngest have asd adhd. We are probably a bit rough so while we have had similar occurances my kids have the ability to protect themselves (they're hard as nails) 😁. However, they weren't always this way and have taken some knocks from tossers to become pretty tough.

I think you behaved perfectly. The spiteful sod needed to be told. You mention the boy takes drugs? Is he from a disfunctional family? He may need support himself.

EmJay19 · 20/09/2020 21:10

He needed to hear it!

Iwonder777 · 20/09/2020 21:10

No, he's from a privileged background.

OP posts:
Scantilydoesit · 20/09/2020 21:13

He'll live OP. Sure he's heard worse. Hopefully he's seen the anger and upset it has caused. Maybe nobody has stood up to him before and he needed the kick up the arse.
