Here's a mystery that some of you might like to help me with.
I'm sure I've seen in one of Richard Scarry's books a picture of a small house with one room upstairs and one room downstairs. Upstairs is a rabbit(?) sitting on a chair in front of an airvent coming of a huge boiler downstairs, and there is literally nothing else in the house. I have bought my daughter about 12 richard scarry books, and this picture isn't in any of them. I know a book we don't have is the massive red one that is as big as a child. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Did I dream it?

I loved Richard Scarry as a kid but I have to say each picture is soooo detailed I can't remember specifics like that - hope you find it!

nectarina · 17/09/2020 12:52

Thanks, I suppose I'm hoping for someone who has either read them so many times they know each picture off by heart, or someone who loves mysteries so much they enjoy sitting in front of their kids bookshelves going through them painstakingly....

I've just had a look at the ancient Scarry book we have and can't find the one you've describe OP, but there is one from later on when the bunny family moved to a new 3 bed place Grin

Ooh LOVE Richard Scarry.

I've been browsing for you, but it looks like the books have changed. I'm thinking It's a Busy Busy World. But my copy was about 40+ years old and long gone now - DDs grown up. Some of the stories in there were a bit cringey in modern view so must have been changed by now.

I wonder if you're remembering some older copy?

MonsteraDeliciosa · 17/09/2020 13:15

I have an old Busy Busy World, but have just looked through it and can't see anything like you've described, OP!

I loved that book so much as a child that I had to buy it for my own DC.Smile

I've just had a lovely few minutes down memory lane looking through Richard Scarry illustrations
They're so detailed and colourful and beautiful! I couldn't find your picture, op, but I found this which would look lovely on my hallway wall.

Yes it was definitely an old one, from the 70’s or 80’s. When i read them to my daughter i would change the sex of the pilots and road sweepers to women occasionally to try to balance things out. They are a bit outdated in that respect. But sooo beautiful

It isn't in the book we have. I did a quick Google and this pic came up which ticks some of the boxes - cat not rabbit though

aw OP you've just prompted me to go and have a little look through What do People Do all Day? I can't find it in there but it was a lovely nostalgic read - thank you.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 17/09/2020 13:45

Sorry - replied too soon! It's a lovely book.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 17/09/2020 13:49

But no air vents. Still cute!

I'm glad that someone has found it OP - I've just been doing some detailed googling and couldn't find it (anything to procrastinate from my current work Grin). Love Richard Scarry!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 17/09/2020 13:52

Sorry, can't help on the picture you mentioned, but as you have so many of them, I'm hoping you may be able to help me instead!

Do you have the book What Do People Do All Day? My DS is 20 and was talking about a certain page in this book, with a gorilla I think, that he remembered, but I don't want to buy the book again just to satisfy his curiosity Grin

nectarina · 17/09/2020 13:53

Saisong - this is nearly it! Only there was nothing in the room but a chair with a vent! The only thing i can’t picture is the type of animal.
Appleblossom could you link a picture please?

God I loved Richard Scarry's Great Big School House.

anotherwinkywinkybumbum · 17/09/2020 14:03

:( nope can't see anything that looks like that.

BrassicaRabbit · 17/09/2020 14:16

What was the gorilla doing?

BrassicaRabbit · 17/09/2020 14:17

I also tie myself in linguistic knots correcting the sexism. But the pictures are a dream.

onewhitewhisker · 17/09/2020 14:17
