Can anyone help me find this Richard Scarry picture?

Here's a mystery that some of you might like to help me with.
I'm sure I've seen in one of Richard Scarry's books a picture of a small house with one room upstairs and one room downstairs. Upstairs is a rabbit(?) sitting on a chair in front of an airvent coming of a huge boiler downstairs, and there is literally nothing else in the house. I have bought my daughter about 12 richard scarry books, and this picture isn't in any of them. I know a book we don't have is the massive red one that is as big as a child. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Did I dream it?

@AppleBlossomTimeNow

But no air vents. Still cute!
Squee! My first ever book - I mean the one I learned to read. "My name is Nicholas, I live in a hollow tree."

Feel a bit emotional seeing that.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 17/09/2020 14:55

God I irrationally loathed Lowly Worm when my son was going through his Scarry phase. Absolutely hated the crawly fucker. Even seeing the name in the OP's title made me twitch a bit Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/09/2020 15:01

I think I have the blue and the yellow book.

Can I just ask why you are looking for the book @nectarina? To win an argument or just because it's bugging you? :D

nectarina · 17/09/2020 16:53

Haha! I didn't know whether to say in the original post. It's for an art project. Not sure what I'll do with it if I find it, but its one of those pictures that has stayed in my mind as something absurd, like the rabbit needs nothing but hot air and a chair to appreciate it on.

Which books have you gone through?
Also the pictures got edited in the 80s - the 70s Busy Busy World looks very different from the 80s one (female characters got more roles but other things were changed too).

TheYeaSayer · 17/09/2020 17:17

I'd love to see the new Busy Busy World; I'm only familiar with the old one. A lot of stereotypes and wives in there!

FayKnights · 17/09/2020 17:21

Awww Richard Scarry reminds me of going to my lovely nan’s when I was small 😊

CottonSock · 17/09/2020 17:30

I've not heard of these. My kids are 4 and 7, is this the right age?
I discovered Shirley Hughes in a charity shop and adore it..converted many friends by buying a set for birthdays. Is it similar at all in the nostalgia?

CatkinToadflax · 17/09/2020 17:33

Just dug out my ancient copy of What Do People Do All Day! Fabulous book. No sign of the picture OP’s looking for but I enjoyed flicking through it! 😊

onewhitewhisker · 17/09/2020 17:50

CottonSock your DC are perfect ages, esp the 4 year old but they go on being enjoyable! They are lovely. more cartoony than Shirley Hughes and less realism (basically animals driving cars) and its quite American nostalgia. Check out Cars and Trucks and Things that Go and The Great Pie Robbery.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 17/09/2020 18:56

Shirley Hughes! Wonderful Dogger and Alfie. Such fond memories and simpler times.

nectarina · 17/09/2020 18:58

Best Word Book Ever

What do People do all Day

@CottonSock yes perfect age, the stories are funny, and the kids love the pictures of how things work. The word books are good too.

I hope we can help you out @nectarina! I’ll check out the books we have when I get a chance.

WibbleBob · 17/09/2020 19:33

Able Baker Charlie and the bread that says “mama”.
I love Lowly Worm, won’t hear a thing against him.
Anyway...has the rabbit got it’s big feet sticking up pointing at the air vent?

nectarina · 17/09/2020 19:56

@WibbleBob hmmmm.... can't be sure but I don't think so. And I'm not sure its a rabbit... sorry I sound a bit flaky/shit!

My youngest son has loved my old Richard Scarry books and I have had the pleasure of going through them all again.

We both love Gorilla Bananas who is a wrong un and needs Sergeant Murphy to lock him up. It is bonkers but brilliant!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 18/09/2020 00:52

Aww @nectarina thank you!!! I couldn’t remember what it was regarding, but he’s been talking about getting a motorbike so that makes sense! I’ll show him tomorrow Grin. Hope you solve your mystery too! X

SaffyWall · 18/09/2020 10:47

I was going to suggest 'What do people do all day' but am too late!

My boys both loved the Richard Scarry books - I think we've got a couple that you haven't listed so will check when I get home.

nectarina · 18/09/2020 13:34

@SaffyWall yes please!

Okay, I’ve just checked Best Bedtime Book Ever, Storybook Dictionary, Best Counting Book Ever and even The Night Before The Night Before Christmas!!

Nothing in there but the only family that seems to have a big old-style range with a chimney that comes out the top, presumably to heat the house, is the bear family - Mamma and Pappa Bear with their son Huckle. I’ll try to post some photos from the books to see if that at least jogs your memory...

Sparticle · 18/09/2020 14:12

See if those help? Might narrow it down a bit.
