Watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike, watch us wreck the mike.
Psych.

Now gather nicely in groups of no more than six...
Unless you're outdoors in Wales...

Oh well, come on in whatever the laws where you are. Plenty of space in this bubble of sanity Wink

On a totally separate note, I have to share an app I'm obsessed with. TooGoodToGo - it's a way of shops and restaurants getting rid of food they'd otherwise have to bin at the end of the night. Several big chains signed up like Costa, BP, Yo Sushi, Morrisons and lots of independent cafes. You pay £4 for a "magic bag" which you collect at the end of the day's trading. We collected one last night from the local BP which sells M&S food and got a whole bag of goodies - pack of croissants, 2 yoghurts, bag of apples, pack of sausages, a whole lemon drizzle cake, bag of crisps, a garlic bread and a chilli con carne ready meal.

It's really very good. Kids are quite obsessed and it's making them try things they wouldn't ordinarily try.

@Jourdain11. So glad that you were able to share good news 😀😀😀

Jourdain11 · 22/09/2020 17:13

@NothingIsWrong

Someone told me team sports for children are exempt from the rule of six? Just thinking of my daughters dancing lessons...
Oh my God! DD2 will hit the roof if her classes are cancelled. She's already told me that doing no group work is damaging her career prospects. (She is 7... but apparently "it is time to start taking her training seriously!" Hmm)
bakingcupcakes · 22/09/2020 17:39

@Jourdain11 Glad you're back on the thread. Sorry to hear about your DD though. It sounds very stressful.

Is everyone with young children planning to let them have the flu jab/spray this year? I'm not anti-vax by any stretch and I've never considered declining a vaccination before but I'm considering declining DS having his this year. It's meant to be at school in October and I'm worried he'll have cold/covid symptoms after meaning I'll have to take time unpaid. I'm already preparing for time unpaid as there's no chance of us making it through the rest of the year without unpaid time off but I'm trying to minimise it. Obviously I know he could then end up with flu later on but I've never had a flu jab and never had flu in my entire life so it'd probably be ok. I don't know what to do.

I feel very down about the new restrictions/announcements. They don't hugely affect me but I'm starting to wonder what the point is if this is how life's going to be forever.

mightbealittlebitmad · 22/09/2020 17:51

My dad is staying from a quarantined country, we are thinking of going for a walk in a bit. If he doesn't go near anybody or touch anything then I'm thinking it's probably fine.

Tempted with the pub too, large beer garden, access from the outside. He doesn't need to set foot inside or even go within a few metres of anybody else. Is that completely frowned upon?!

Thanks gonna give that a try. My work apparently does it who knew? Missed today's but will check it out tomorrow.

Jourdain11
Glad it's finally going well for you.
Sorry to hear about your poor DD. That's so sad for her and everyone around her. Must be yet another worry for you all.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 22/09/2020 17:58

Thank you @BrazenlyDefying - the kids will love that for “weekend nights out”. 😂

Ah, thank you. I originally thought it was likely a response to stress, but our GP thinks it is most likely a rare (and curable!) condition where there is a neurological reaction to inflammation or infection in the body. Who knew? It is sad - she's gone from being the most even-tempered, bookish, happy girl to being an unrecognisably anxious child, unable to concentrate on anything, screaming meltdowns every night, refusing to eat, wetting herself at school. With right treatment she can completely recover, so I am just crossing my fingers, toes, legs, eyes that we won't have to wait too long for her paed neurology appointment.

School has been a real struggle and she's coming home each day, exhausted, in tears, having struggled to do her work and usually embarrassed because she's had a meltdown or wet herself. It's horrible for the other kids too - especially DD2 who has always admired her and been a bit jealous of her perfect school record.

If her appointment gets delayed for Covid, I will literally go and sit and protest outside No. 10!!!

TheOrchidKiller · 22/09/2020 18:20

Evening all. Need to catch myself up.
Glad to see @Jourdain11 is back.

Hand-holds to everyone for today's drip-feed of crap announcements.

Have just had parents' evening by video, 3 of us perched on DS's bed, trying to ignore the awful feedback (my voice, not DS, it's all good with him). Thankfully it's our last ever parents' evening. Didn't think it would be like that.

Found a fellow AD at work today Smile

110APiccadilly · 22/09/2020 18:22

@bakingcupcakes Not quite the question you asked, but I'm eligible myself for the flu vaccine this year and don't intend to get it. I'm not anti vax, but tbh flu is probably the one I wouldn't be that fused about getting anyway and given the risk of having symptoms afterwards, and the amount of pure faff involved with all medical appointments right now, I'm not interested.

(Rumour has it that the under 65 version - the one I'd be getting is in short supply as well, so I'm happy for my dose to go to someone who needs it more, or at least cares more about getting it!)

I've never had cold/flu symptoms with the jab and have it every year, if one woman's personal experience holds any weight where's your peer review eh Dorset?

DS is having it. Possibly against my better judgement. He's not had it before so don't know whether he'll get symptoms. I am usually fine but the kids nasal spray is different I think isn't it?

justasking111 · 22/09/2020 18:35

Had a message from our surgery flu vaccinations soon. Have also booked in at chemist just in case.

justasking111 · 22/09/2020 18:39

Took grand kids to karate, wax on wax off. They had so much fun only 9 to a class all in their own little boxes, doors open.

Looking at the weather we are in for a beast of a period of rain, wind.

Drakeford on tv tonight after Boris, that should be fun (not)

We have a few cases in hospital in our health board, five tested positive today in our county so they are saying we are facing lockdown like south Wales, guess they want us all to be equally miserable oop north.

justasking111 · 22/09/2020 18:42

Bloody hell, compulsory vaccines, how do they think that will work?

"Posted at 15:1815:18
Health minister defended over 'compulsory vaccinations' row
First Minister Mark Drakeford has defended his health minister for not ruling out compulsory coronavirus vaccinations in Wales.

Vaughan Gething told ITV Wales' Sharp End programme on Monday: "I wouldn't rule out anything at this point but [making it mandatory] is at the most extreme end and the most unlikely.

"But I don't think it's sensible for any politician to rule out possible options, because we can't tell where we're going to be in a month, let alone in six months or a year."

In Tuesday's First Minister's Questions, Conservative Senedd member Suzy Davies said it was a "completely Orwellian statement, a real attack on personal freedoms".

Brexit Party group leader Mark Reckless said a "programme of forced injections would break international law".

Responding, the first minister said Mr Gething had been asked on the programme "would he rule something out - he simply said that he wouldn't".

"It went no further than that, there's no implication in what he said that he had made a decision of any sort," said Mr Drakeford."

TheOrchidKiller · 22/09/2020 18:59

I get a free flu jab at work. I'm not fussy, I'll take any freebies- pens, post-it notes, flu jabs, but I draw the line at those stupid pom-poms with boggly eyes on them.

For bingo : "New restrictions? They won't affect me."
Said smugly with folded arms, & no comprehension that it has a massive impact on other people.

bakingcupcakes · 22/09/2020 19:00

It is the nasal spray and I can't remember any particularly bad reactions previously. Last year I think he had a runny nose after. Normally I wouldn't hesitate but the possibility of him being sent home/requiring testing (even if its clearly something else) is putting me off.

Littlebelina · 22/09/2020 19:01

Waves @Jourdain11, glad to see you back and good to hear about your health. Hope your dd gets the help she needs.

DS will have his flu vaccine (he's never got a temp in the past so not concerned on that front), dd is too young. I'm getting mine done privately (already booked thank goodness) and dh should get his on the nhs but haven't heard yet. 2 winters ago we all came down with a nasty bug 🐛 that knocked us out one by one so want to reduce our chances of coming down with anything this year. Plus days off sick aren't as restoring if the whole family has to self isolate with you....

TheOrchidKiller · 22/09/2020 19:02

Looking at the weather we are in for a beast of a period of rain, wind.

Want to know why that is? It's because I booked some time off, that's why! Every bloody time I've booked time off this year the weather's changed for the worst. That, & Boris has banned whatever I've got planned to do in my week off, the bastard!
I'm so cheesed off.

justasking111 · 22/09/2020 19:28

@TheOrchidKiller that is a downer. Where r u going it is the west that will cop it hardest.

DH has just mentioned the 8pm announcement... did I want to watch it?

It's funny how I avidly watched them at the start (clutching a glass of wine) and now am completely fatigued. I'll get the gist from the bbc website later and will continue re-watching Fleabag thanks. Bo-Jo or Andrew Scott? I know who I want on my telly.
