Hello all. Had to register for reasons hence slightly different username. Missed you crazy murder-buffoons.

Feels like we're heading into another lockdown and it's shit. I almost wish they'd just do it and get it over with to stop this horrible anticipation.

It's masks in the playground for pick up and drop off as from Monday. Ffs. Sad

BogRollBOGOF · 19/09/2020 18:01

When DS2 was about 3 or 4, we were in the supermarket when DS2 saw a pack of mince and bellowed with delight,
"LOOK MUMMY! WORMS!!!"
Lots of turning heads and laughing Grin

I don't think I count as a pepper. I have got enough tinned/freezer food to last 2 weeks though and that's not something I'd ever have done before this year.

I'm quite happy today. We went out for breakfast because DS asked if we could and I couldn't bare to say no when it's what we always do if we're out that early on a weekend.

I've checked the lockdown guidance and I'm advised I 'should' not meet my friend for breakfast next week not that I 'mustn't'. She's still happy to do it and so am I. I'm looking forward to it as I haven't seen her for 6months.

justasking111 · 19/09/2020 18:39

Having lived in the wilds for 20 years I became a prepper through necessity. Huge chest freezer in the utility room, two fridges, dried and tinned food with three hungry males to feed. I also had paraffin lamps, candles, torches, matches and a generator.

Although we moved to civilisation four years ago I continued to keep a healthy stock in, I can also still find the candles, torches, lamps in the dark.

My MIL had tins of food in the pantry which were many years old a leftover from the war years was her excuse.

Been to see if I can buy DF's birthday present. What I really want to get him for his birthday at the end of the month, apart from a hug, is a nice meal out together, with wine & reminiscing over old times, & being in the same room together.

But as that is probably not going to be allowed now it will have to be something postable.

I've come back empty-handed because nothing in the shops measures up.

Jealousy isn't a nice trait but I admit to being very jealous of anyone who has seen their dad & had a bear hug this year.

Question for anyone of a legal mind- I've seen on a lot of shop doorways signs saying "no mask, no service.) Is that legal, as in it discriminates against people who can't wear masks for disability reasons? Or for any other reason for that matter. I saw one on a double glazing company door, they are a small independent company, but also one on Bargain Booze, which is a national company I believe. We've been told that we can't refuse entry if someone isn't wearing a mask because they're exempt, or to ask why they can't wear one, and quite right too, but i did wonder at the signs I saw. Thanks.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/09/2020 19:13

It would be illegal to discriminate someone who is exempt, and they aren't supposed to ask because that's discrimination too.
A buisness can generally refuse custom, but they shouldn't on this one because it is likely that they are refusing due to a protected characteristic which often doesn't have actual proof anyway.

In my case there is no official record of the problem anyway and the only actual proof is to force me into a panic attack which is deeply unethical!

I'm definitely not a prepper, but I do like to have my cupboards/freezer full just in case in normal times - it just makes me feel more secure - especially because I live by myself. My priorities when I thought the last lockdown might be coming were stocking up on cat food, compost, wine/gin and coffee beans, and the only thing that I got close to running out of was decent tonic water for the gin... I did order more catfood today (but we were close to running out, and it is much cheaper to buy in bulk) and a couple of extra packs of tonic water might have found their way into my shopping basket at Lidl. Where they were having a rush on toilet paper ...

I've wondered this too. I've seen a sign saying it at an outdoor greengrocers, which puzzled me.

I had to walk away from a discussion yesterday where someone was wanting masks to be worn outside all the time because there was no distancing at the school gates. Seriously, all the time? What if you're outside & there's no one else near you?

Similar thought when I was out & about today. I forewent a proper cup of tea in a sit-down cafe because of T&T. What is the point of giving your details if there is no one else sitting anywhere near you, & everyone wears masks in the queue & at the till?

I'm generally fed up now & quite stroppy. 7.15pm, 3 of us in the house quite capable of doing dinner but no one else seems to have thought to do it.

DH has a painful leg. He is on the phone to PILs now, going on about it. Perhaps it's been caused by me giving him the evils?

TheOrchidKiller · 19/09/2020 19:24

@MaudesMum
I did order more catfood today

The cat is the only one who will be alright for food as I stocked up. Just so long as he doesn't turn his nose up at it at any random moment, as cats like to do.

I wonder if all this talk of "we might have to lock down cos you can't behave yourselves" is just as it was in July and August....
Its gonna be a sunny weekend so let's scare everyone shitless. Weather has been shit for ages so forgot they used to do this.....

Sweet Baby Jesus in red velvet booties! My Dementor friend is stressing about her neighbour's coughing! Someone pointed that you can't catch Covid through a wall but she's worried that the neighbour has been coughing in the back garden and the Covid might have made a beeline for my friends washing on the line Confused

This is a supposedly very intelligent woman in her 40s who would be quite overjoyed to work from home indefinitely. How does a sensible pragmatic old woman like me attract these people Grin

Well, everyone knows Covid doesn't come out after 10pm or like school much. It's possible Covid could be partial to freshly washed clothes. Grin

I’m a bit of a preppier too. Sorry sock but I have more than 25 cans of beans but definately not that many tea bags😄

Preppers and panic buyers are totally diffferent things. Preppers stock up slowly over a long period of time and don’t contribute to the chaos we saw in March/April because they aren’t joining the hoards of panic buyers because they don’t need to.

We’ve started prepping due to the brexit paranoia about 2 years ago and yes people laughed at us and possibly quite rightly as far as brexit goes, we don’t know yet, but....then came corona and while everyone was out panic buying we didn’t have too. And we realised that it’s not the things you know are coming that you need to prep for, it’s this sort of situation and yes ok it’s not exactly Armageddon but with 3 vulnerable people in the house it made things a lot less stressful not having to go out wait in queues outside supermarkets for ages. And no, we weren’t smug about it, just bloody relieved.

Justgivemewine · 19/09/2020 20:45

And it’s all kicking off in my fb feed, 2 mutual friends at total opposite ends of the dementor scale are having a massive row and D has just accused AD of wanting her to die 😲 not sure how long they are going to remain mutual friends.

justasking111 · 19/09/2020 20:47

Sat outside in the sun this afternoon with an old friend who did not go out, all shopping online during the last lockdown. I joshed her along a bit saying if I had not been able to go out to shop and see other human beings I would have gone mad. She has no health issues apart from a bad back but was and is very anxious about it all. I hope she is more positive if it happens here again.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 19/09/2020 20:51

Have any of you heard of “Cinderella leave”? Apparently it’s a navy thing and it’s about curfews. Say you must be back on the ship by 10 because you’re setting off across the Pacific... rather than take it easy, enjoy some local cuisine and a stroll around the old town - it actually means going in twice as hard to get the job done before curfew.

We’re made of stern stuff us Brits. Just because last orders are at 9:45, I’m failing to see how this will slow us down.

I wonder if the Bargain Booze is a franchise like McDonald's? Anyone got one near them, have a look in the window see if this is a policy nationwide?
BogRollBOGOF · 19/09/2020 21:25

I had a panic over dinner. No pasta sauce in the kitchen. Nor in the spare wardobe Shock
Fortunately there were a few 6 packs in the other wardobe Grin

There were plenty of merry stags & hens in town at 6pm as I was going home, all in groups of 6, bless 'em.

I'm betting they started early with whatever they brought with them on the train this morning.
