What do sweet potatoes go with?

I've never cooked them before but have seen a recipe on Pinterest for them that sounds nice. They're thinly sliced & baked with parmesan & thyme (and a couple of other things I can't remember).

What would/do you serve them with?

Vegetables or protein. Depends what you like.

I use them in satay instead of chicken (serve without rice) - especially good with spinach added into the sauce.

I also make them into homemade chips/ wedges.

Serve them with anything you would have ordinary potatoes with.

Sweet potatoes are delicious. We have them baked with a bean stew or as fries with fried eggs or baked with chilli and sour cream.

Crylittlesister · 13/09/2020 21:27

Slice them into 2cm rounds, microwave for couple of mins till tender. Flour, egg, panko breadcrumbs. Shallow fry. Serve with rice and katsu curry sauce.

minipie · 13/09/2020 21:28

They go really well with pork.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 13/09/2020 21:28

Delicious with fish cakes..

NoSquirrels · 13/09/2020 21:29

Yum. I’d serve that particular dish with roast chicken thighs.

Other things they’re delicious with: baked as jackets with chilli (bean or meat), or with goats cheese & bacon; as wedges with burgers or breaded chicken; in cubes in curries; as soup.

PurpleDaisies · 13/09/2020 21:29

They’re great in curry.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 13/09/2020 21:32

Favourites here include serving them with lamb korfta and a spicy red pepper stew; or as the topping for a bean-based spicy veggie shepherds' pie.

Spicy is good because it balances out the sweet.

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/09/2020 21:41

I do SP wedges with steak (and also serve with onion, mushroom and peppers that have been fried off)

DrFoxtrot · 13/09/2020 21:41

They go well as a baked potato with tuna mayonnaise and spring onions. Or chilli as PP mentioned. Other than that, I usually roast them with other veg.

Feta

I love them baked with smoked mackerel pate and salad.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 13/09/2020 21:47

We're having ours as sweet potato fries with Tacos tomorrow

lucysmam · 13/09/2020 21:48

Thank you all. & thank you for the other suggestions for them too. I've been looking for something new to try for a few weeks so will try them different ways too.

I have some pork loin steaks in the freezer that I'll do them with this week.

Sweet potato and orange soup.
Cook them and drizzle with peanut butter.
Cut into wedges and oven cook. Serve with anything you would serve with chips.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 13/09/2020 21:54

I love sweet pots. We mash them then mix with tahini and chillies served with halloumi, salad and lemon wedges

I love sweet potatoes with lamb and grilled vine tomatoes 😋

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 13/09/2020 22:48

Roasted with goats cheese.

Gilmoregoals · 13/09/2020 22:51

I usually have sweet potatoes in curry, tagine, sausage casserole or make fries and have with chicken or pork (BBQ/pulled/Southern fried) I love sweet potato!
Also roasted chunks in a salad with something like goats cheese or feta is nice!

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/09/2020 22:53

I occasionally make a sort of spicy shepherd's pie with spicy, tomatoey beef or lamb mince base topped with sweet potato mash.

Purplewithred · 13/09/2020 22:54

Roast them under chicken thighs, then sort of mash them when they’re done. Yummy. Also curries, and I found a recipe that is baked sweet potatoes with Piri piri prawns which is delicious.
