Asking for a handhold - DH in ICU

DH was taken into hospital last night with breathing difficulties. It was pretty minor, the paramedics weren't even going to take him in but we insisted. He's now in an induced coma on a ventilator. He's had 2 negative Covid tests so they don't think it's that but they don't know what it is.

I'm falling apart. He's my whole life. We have a 2 year old who is a complete Daddy's girl. I need him so much. I can't even be with him now because of COVID.

Another hand hold here OP. My mother, in her seventies, was diagnosed with heart failure last year. They were considering surgery to fix a valve that she’s always had issues with but, a year later, it’s so well controlled with medication that she doesn’t need it. She’s leading a perfectly normal life including walks, travel (pre Covid), still teaches at university etc.
Keeping everything crossed for you and your husband Flowers.

sending hope and strength and prayers to you, and Flowers

It is not a death sentence in most cases. My DB has lived in heart failure for almost 30 years. It is well managed and he lives a great life. Keep hope alive.

My very fit, normal weight husband had heart attack mid April. It was an absolute nightmare, but he had an operation and is fit and very well now. I know how stressful it is for you. Good luck and be grateful he went in when he did.

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 04/09/2020 17:43

So sorry to hear this. I’m thinking of you xx

exeastender · 04/09/2020 17:43

Oh goodness op I am so sorry, keeping everything crossed for you that it's treatable xx

Hi op, my grandma has had heart failure (and a leaky valve) since the age of 35, she’s now 82 and doing fine.

So sorry you are going through this.

My DH had a "small" heart attack 2 years ago and went on to have triple by-pass surgery. I have no idea if that's the same as your DH, but mine has made a full recovery and with some smallish lifestyle changes is fine now.

I know how scary it is but the NHS really do pull out the stops when it matters.

I'll be thinking of all three of you and hoping for some good news.

ithinkiveseenthisfilmbefore · 04/09/2020 17:47

I'm so sorry. I hope it's manageable.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 04/09/2020 17:48

I really hope he's OK!

So sorry, hope your beloved husband pulls through.

peachgreen · 04/09/2020 17:53

Thank you all so much. They saw some small improvements while we were there. They were able to turn down his oxygen quite a bit which I think is a good sign. He looks so well, just like himself but sleeping. I'm with my SIL and am going to put my little girl to bed as normal to keep some normality for her. Then I can collapse. I'll keep reading your words, I can't tell you how comforting all your stories have been.

My DH had heart failure in Feb and was sent to ICU. They wouldn’t let him out of hospital for 5.5 weeks because his condition was so serious, and then they operated, and he is doing really well now, and feels much better than he has done for years.
It’s terrifying, I know. Sending love xxx

peachgreen Thats looking good then! Heart failure is a very broad description as you can see from other posters here. Least he's in the best place and if this as it seems was an unknown thing before at least its been found, come to light and in most all instances can be treated.

I would as you suggest keep things normal for your little lady and get all the practial help you can get.

Also and this is an order!! Please look after yourself eat and sleep as best you can, you'll need your strength to see you through this time bin there and dun it!!

Bless you:)

Sending loads of love your way, you’re all in my thoughts.
It must be so, so scary and I can’t imagine how you must be feeling but as others have said there is so much that can be done these days.
Sending strength ❤️
