Asking for a handhold - DH in ICU

peachgreen · 04/09/2020 10:56

DH was taken into hospital last night with breathing difficulties. It was pretty minor, the paramedics weren't even going to take him in but we insisted. He's now in an induced coma on a ventilator. He's had 2 negative Covid tests so they don't think it's that but they don't know what it is.

I'm falling apart. He's my whole life. We have a 2 year old who is a complete Daddy's girl. I need him so much. I can't even be with him now because of COVID.

So sorry. I know it’s a shock but heart failure is treatable, it just depends on the stage. Xx

Rebelwithallthecause · 04/09/2020 16:12

Thinking of you. Hope there’s something that helps him and he’s home soon Flowers

Thinking of both you and your husband and praying there is some good news for you 💐

Strawberrycreamsundae · 04/09/2020 16:16

Fingers crossed OP.
Two years ago I developed severe heart failure (unbeknown to me the terrible sore throat I had led to viral myocarditis and effectively wrecked my left ventricle with complete left bundle branch block)
I was pretty ill for two weeks and two years later, thanks to medication, I can lead a almost normal life although I am breathless frequently, I just live a more sedate version!
Very much thinking of you both x

Thanks Thinking of you OP, virtual hand hold here. No actual advice but just didn't want to read your thread and not reply. X

Notverygrownup · 04/09/2020 16:18

OP heart failure is a bad name for a condition that can be well treated. The drugs which exist now can mean a normal life for many. Personally, I am no expert, but I have a friend who is an expert in this field. PM me if you need to ask any questions and I will forward them to her.

Happynow001 · 04/09/2020 16:18

Sending you a handhold, OP, plus my prayers are with you, your husband and the rest of your family. 🌹

JustFrustrated · 04/09/2020 16:19

Oh OP.

I'm sorry to read your update. Some PP's have some hopeful words, can you find out more?

CheetasOnFajitas · 04/09/2020 16:20

Heart surgeons and physicians are amazing. I’m guessing he is fairly young? Try to stay calm and listen to what the doctors are telling you, and maybe take a look at the British Heart Foundation website. I know exactly how it feels to have someone close in ICU in a coma as my brother had a very bad accident and was there for weeks. However for it to be your partner and the father of your child is very much harder. Hoping you get some positive news soon.

You need time to process this info. Don't stop asking questions. Better informed can help you.
Big hand hold here Flowers

So sorry to read your update.

For what it’s worth, heart failure is a very broad term, to the extent the British heart foundation are trying to get it re-classified to make it clearer where patients are at because the very term is so terrifying.

Heart failure essentially denotes the efficiency of the heart, below a certain rate is considered to be heart failure, but that doesn’t mean the heart has failed, it means that in most instances there are steps that can be taken to treat and sometimes even reverse the situation.

FWIW I have been in heart failure for the past four years. I hav most definitely had some lows in terms of my progress, but just over a year ago I had a procedure to part fix a valve which has improved my quality of life immeasurably.

I am still considered to be in heart failure but I am living more or less a normal life and am currently a-symptomatic. I have an ICD pacemaker but I barely even notice it’s there...

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Does your hospital have a dedicated cardiac department?

Op I am so sorry this is happening to you, what a shock. Are you able to call friends or family members to help with your dd?

Can I say we have the same thing happening with a friend of ours, also two negative covid tests so far, but they can't find what is wrong with him either but sounds the same as your dh - since had ct scan nothing. It is very odd, as on paper it looks like covid but keeps testing negative every day. I really hope your dh turns a corner in the coming hours op.

He is in the very best place in the world, they will be taking such good care of him Flowers
