I'm a fucking HOUSEWIFE?

Just had the car insurance renewal on DH's car. I am a named driver, and the details listed state that I am a 'housewife'. How the fuck is this even a category?

OP posts:
CharlottesPleb · 03/09/2020 17:37

I mean you've chosen to express your contempt for being a housewife on a site where you will know a lot of people are proud of being one and maybe even that's a big part of their plan in life.

That seems needlessly disdainful. I mean a lot of us probably don't want to be a waitress but we aren't on waitresses.com trying to make them feel like crap for their life choices.

rachaelclaire1 · 03/09/2020 17:38

@SentientAndCognisant yes exactly,

Funguy · 03/09/2020 17:39

What is your job title? Just write to the DVLA and get it changed' lion tamer' , 'kebab artist', whatever you want.

Marble2302 · 03/09/2020 17:40

Well technically you're unemployed so stick that on there instead.

DanceItOut · 03/09/2020 17:40

This whole thread is a bit insulting actually. OP is described as a housewife for insurance and not happy about it so she must be lying about being self employed?

I’m a single parent of two children and a full time mature student at a bricks university and work part time. Does that mean I should also be down as a house person because I am the person who is in charge of the children and housework?

Howallergic · 03/09/2020 17:42

You should put down student.

JonSnowIsALoser · 03/09/2020 17:42

"Housewife" is an awful term for a job, because it reveals your marital status. And it's just an ugly word anyway.

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/09/2020 17:46

Is marital status something to be kept under wraps now? 🙄
MitziK · 03/09/2020 17:46

@Howallergic

You should put down student.
That would put the premium up even higher than 'Self employed'.
Pebblexox · 03/09/2020 17:47

On my car insurance I'm a house person. It doesn't bother me.

ShellsAndSunrises · 03/09/2020 17:48

They won’t accept “self employed” as a status. You’d need to say what you do. Or at least nowhere I’ve insured with would... it has to be specific, so they know what your car usage and therefore risk is likely to be.

Howallergic · 03/09/2020 17:49

MitziK - well we should all put down housewife then and commit fraud is it?

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 03/09/2020 17:50

It sounds to me more the issue is that your husband doesn't consider your self employment as making a living which is why he chose housewife (for want of a better descriptive).

Sure housewife is dated.

But if you're not bringing home any bacon and you're selling Body Shop products and making minus money then it would have left him with no choice...

Mmpip · 03/09/2020 17:50

I absolutely agree. The term 'Housewife' is outdated.....If I were in charge of running a household then I would call it a 'Management' position......

Iamthedevilinthedetail · 03/09/2020 17:50

Home maker? Ffs get a job if you want to be something else and then hubby can give you another job title. You're a stay at home mum. How fab. So he could put you down as carer I guess. Would that help assuage your ruffled little ego?

MJMG2015 · 03/09/2020 17:50

@Bridecilla

Maybe you should put your job title as 'Arsey Question Avoider'
Best suggestion so far!!
CherryValanc · 03/09/2020 17:51

@Howallergic

PattyPan 'civil servant' is one of those jobs titles that I actually have no clue what it means and what you actually do (no offence).

I think sometimes they test their eyesight by taking a drive?

Pretty sure that's in the politician's job description, rather than civil servant.

I think the OP is an assassin. Explain why she lied on the insurance form - bet the insurance is really high for assassins.

Bet that's where she is now - whoever put 'housewife' is in trouble.

Scottsy100 · 03/09/2020 17:52

Something else to get offended about 🤦‍♀️

Lola2223 · 03/09/2020 17:52

Telling then am a housewife made my insurance cheaper then saying unemployed. Very strange!

Howallergic · 03/09/2020 17:53

Cherry, he's not elected, therefore, civil service. Him with the eyesight problem.

CheetasOnFajitas · 03/09/2020 17:54

Oops @PattyPan sorry I didn’t mean to tell you what a civil servant was Blush. I was replying @bookmum08

skybright59 · 03/09/2020 17:54

So..does anyone know what her job is? 17 pages deep and still not a scooby lol

CharlottesPleb · 03/09/2020 17:55

"It sounds to me more the issue is that your husband doesn't consider your self employment as making a living which is why he chose housewife (for want of a better descriptive)."

Or that it's the hard truth. For instance there's quite a line between humouring someone who likes to style themselves self employed but really isn't, and actually obtaining quotes/entering into quotes fraudulently.

CheetasOnFajitas · 03/09/2020 17:55

@Howallergic

No, Cummings is a political appointment, a Special Adviser. He is 100% not a civil servant. He hates civil servants.
CharlottesPleb · 03/09/2020 17:55

entering into contracts, not quotes
