Nephew should be quarantining but isn't

Teenager living at home. Just came back from a country where he is required to quarantine on her return.

I can see from my activity tracking app that he is out running.

I don't know if my sister (his Mum) knows and even if she did if there is much she can do, bar locking him in her room or chucking him out.

Do I have some sort of duty to say something or shall I just keep out of it?

I'd mention it to my sister to check she knows and then stay out of it.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2020 12:38

My friend is being the same. He got back from France on Saturday. But took " a walk up to the bike shop at the end of the road" Angry

Given the chances of him having it are the square root of fuck all, I'd keep out of it and stop electronically tracking your family.

Honestly I think just butt out. You'll just cause arguments.
If he lives with your sister I highly doubt she doesn't know, and will cause drama between you and her for sticking your nose in. If he doesn't live with your sister there is literally nothing you she can do.
I also think if he's just running what's the harm? Who's he coming into close contact with? It's all a bit daft at this point honestly.

workshy44 · 26/08/2020 12:44

Where I am from even if you are quarantining you are still allowed outside to walk/run. It is so unlikely you will catch it abroad I think as you are outside all the time, unless in a major city going to nightclubs etc where all the new outbreaks in Spain seem to have come from

Reedwarbler · 26/08/2020 12:44

Is this a thing now? Keeping tabs on your family's movements electronically? I find this very unsettling. It's not even your own child. Creepy.

netflixismysidehustle · 26/08/2020 12:46

Some people upload their runs to their social media so it's not necessarily creepy.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2020 12:52

I'm surprised nobody has yelled REPORT!!! REPORT!!! yet.

Reedwarbler · 26/08/2020 12:53

Alright, perhaps not creepy if you are doing it to compare your running prowess to someone elses, but it is creepy if you are checking up on a relative to see whether or not they are sticking to quarantine and then to post about it on sm.

TheOrigBrave · 26/08/2020 12:53

Oh goodness, I am NOT electronically tracking anyone - well not in a sort of creepy way.

It's an activity tracker where you follow fellow athletes and give them kudos, or comment and support each other. It's social media for athletes.

People are SO quick to see the bad in people.

I was NOT checking up! I logged into the app, and saw he had uploaded a run.

Just as you are so quick to see fault in your nephews quarantine behaviour. Pot and kettle Mrs.

Scbchl · 26/08/2020 12:56

I'm sure if he is out running hes likely nowhere near anyone and as a teenage boy its maybe the only thing keeping him sane. Teenagers really struggle with being isolated it can affect their mental health alot so I'd not be bothered. This is a mild illness for at least 98% of people anyway!

QuentinInQuarantino · 26/08/2020 12:56

MYOB, who's he going to infect on a run?! Even when you were all "quarantined" in the UK you were allowed out for a run. Your sister obviously knows so all you'll achieve is family discord.

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 26/08/2020 12:57

Leave it and butt out. He's going out running in the open air, not to rave.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2020 12:58

I was NOT checking up! I logged into the app, and saw he had uploaded a run.
And then thought, "I'll ask a bunch of randoms on the internet what I should do.". It's quite easy, do nothing.

My nephew is not following quarantine rules as set out by the government.

I was doing nothing creepy or sneaky.

And it's Ms

Anyway, I shall say nothing.

Just like 100s of others.

CatherineCawood · 26/08/2020 13:11

Silly Billy uploading to Strava. Think he might have switched it off!!

RowboatsinDisguise · 26/08/2020 13:14

He’s a moron for uploading to Strava (why didn’t you just say Strava?) but going for a run on your own is hardly a massively high risk activity so I couldn’t get worked up about it.

SoManyActivities · 26/08/2020 13:15

2 things:

Weird that you can track your nephews movements, I know you said it's a Strava type thing, but it's still weird.

If he has just gone out for a run... So what? If he is not coming into proper contact with anyone or any surfaces then it doesn't matter does it?

IntermittentParps · 26/08/2020 13:16

* My nephew is not following quarantine rules as set out by the government.

Just like 100s of others.

So that's OK then?

I'd say a jokey 'Hey, aren't you in quarantine?'

I can't get wound up over it to be honest.
