We now wipe down desks & office equipment after use at work. Fair enough.

The cleaner also comes & wipes down each desk but not office equipment because they are not allowed to touch it.

Except they don't wipe down a desk if someone is still working at it, & they don't come back later to do it when you move or go home.

The chief dementor was telling me about her showering & laundry habits today. Why do people seem to need to tell me they strip off as soon as they get home? I said I didn't bother. She pulled a face & said she didn't want to pass anything on to her family. Clearly, I must have a death-wish on my family. I mean, I wash my hands when I get in, & change clothes (because no one wants to wear uniform at home) but my priorities when I get in are tea & biscuits.

profpoopsnagle · 28/08/2020 20:49

I had to pick up a prescription today. Put my face covering on outside the chemist, but because of the weather (rain outside, hotter chemist shop), my glasses steamed completely up and I actually bashed right into their perspex screen by the counter. I didn't see it at all. They weren't that surprised, perhaps it has happened before. Shall I sue?

profpoopsnagle · 28/08/2020 20:55

On the good side though, I have been back swimming lots and perhaps it is a little nicer with Covid restrictions! Shock It's normally quite a run down council pool.

The loos are spotless because they are cleaned every 90 mins and there's only 1 family session a day, so all the other times are adult only. Today there was 6 in the pool, so I got a lane to myself and I can now park right up close too. I know defeats getting fitter objective.

If only they'd let me shower there rather than having to get dried, dressed, home and then wet again it would be perfect. But that's against the covid safe that is, using soap and water all over the body.

wanderings · 28/08/2020 21:00

I went to a certain cafe, where there are cats who have free run of the place. The Dementors would have a fit, all those furry creatures spreading viruses where people are eating!

Evenstar · 28/08/2020 21:17

I can’t believe the thread that is running about a sign requiring proof of mask exemption to enter a post office! How can anyone think it is right to exclude disabled people in this way?

I am so done with this, I am less frightened of Covid than I am of the portion of society that thinks it has the right to force people to be labelled or shamed.

TheOrchidKiller · 28/08/2020 21:20

@wanderings I keep getting emails trying to entice me into the cat cafe. The set up's not far off from being "covid-secure" anyway : book in advance, register your details, sit in designated spot, controlled access.

Were you allowed to wander around to look at the cats? Or do you have to sit still & lure them over?

Last time we went there were some very inquisitive kittens who were all over the tables. I'm not keen on that in my own house, although it was funny to watch.

It has lost its appeal since we aquired our own moggy. He's sleeping on my lap now. Smile

wanderings · 28/08/2020 21:24

@TheOrchidKiller they tell you to remain seated, but the reality is that everyone wanders around. It’s very friendly and non-dementory, although they sell kitty masks.

That's the part that's done so badly for my mental health. I had the trauma issues I was always going to have to deal with with masks - but it's the sea of eyes with the judgementalism that's going on that pushes me back into that nightmare surgical theatre.
TheOrchidKiller · 28/08/2020 22:03

@wanderings
They've been emailing about those kitty masks, trying to sell them. I think they look creepy.

Still trapped under a cat. Send help!

Well, I had a run in with the actual mall police today. Transport for Wales have employed people to go up and down trains checking whether people are wearing masks. Which is of course pointless as the law says you don't have to have proof of exemption. So I went and told them so, and also that I thought they were being unnecessarily intimidating. They said they'd pass my comments back - and were noticeably quieter and less confrontational on the next pass through the train.

Will stress I was polite - if a little worked up when I first approached them. Tried to remember that they are not setting the rules and actually have been tasked with doing the impossible. I may however email TfW with some feedback.

110APiccadilly · 28/08/2020 22:12

Mask police, not mall police!

justasking111 · 28/08/2020 22:32

DS and DIL left the safe maskless cocoon of Wales today for a fun weekend in Manchester at a gorgeous hotel. Lots of shopping planned. Well apparently the masks are awful and they couldn`t get out of the shops quick enough. The hotel looks lovely so suggested they forget the shopping and just relax in the hotel. Whilst out they were jostled by a gang of youths who used the worst language towards them. Country bumpkins they are bless them.

justasking111 · 28/08/2020 22:39

Our crappy hospital board are on the news, do not come to the hospital this weekend we are full up. Well I do not know with who. Still no scheduled ops. or many clinics running. Today they are blaming the staycation tourists. ffs.

Pleasedontdothat · 28/08/2020 22:44

I had a really upsetting day today .... one of my oldest friends came over. I know she is irrationally anxious and won’t go into anyone’s house so I suggested we went for a walk in the park and get a coffee at the cafe (with outdoor seating). She insisted on keeping 2 metres apart from me at all times - even walking in the road - brought her own flask of coffee as she doesn’t trust anything anyone else has touched. When we got to the cafe I asked her to grab one of the tables (all miles apart from each other) while I got a coffee, only to come outside to find her hovering way outside the cafe environs. She said it wasn’t safe to sit at the cafe tables, or on a nearby bench but why didn’t I sit down and she’d crouch on the ground a distance away. I said I thought that was ridiculous and I’d much rather carry on walking. I understand that her anxiety levels are high but it was so over the top - she’s an intelligent woman who is normally perfectly rational. It can’t be healthy to have that level of anxiety for more than 5 months, surely? Her mother is elderly but with no underlying conditions but she’s convinced that if she gets anywhere near anyone else she WILL get Covid and WILL infect her mother who WILL then die a horrible death. I feel I need to keep seeing her just to try to expose her to some more normal life and rational thought patterns but today was so stressful (and breathe)

justasking111 · 28/08/2020 22:46

@Pleasedontdothat that sounds like a hellish outing. I admire you for trying I would have walked off and left her.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 28/08/2020 22:50

That sounds so stressful Please I also saw a friend this week and she was a nervous wreck. It was only her second trip out in months - she'd only just made herself go into a shop the other day. It was infuriating and sad - neither she or anyone in her family has any physical health issues at all, she's just been too anxious to try going out. I think she knows that's a problem and is trying to sort it before her children get thrown back into school but just seeing the state of her was really sad. I mean, in the last few weeks I've been on holiday, to the gym, to restaurants, museums - no it hasn't been normal but I am at least leaving the summer with some fun memories and having had a breather from being shut in.

I went to stay with a friend in Brighton last night. We went out and about at lunchtime and everywhere felt busy and upbeat, it was actually lovely. It gives me some hope in terms of the economy because people were clearly happy to be spending a bit of money.

Willow2017 · 28/08/2020 23:08

But you would be covering all that soap in terms then takung it home to infect your whole fsmily and they would all be say dead within the week! How could you?
Oh wait...soap...Dammit i did it again🤣🤣😃

Willow2017 · 28/08/2020 23:11

Staying off that thread now before i get banned. 😠😠😠
I do have a post in mind about different badges for different disabilities to distinguish thier 'differences' to see if any of the fuckwits get the connection🤔
But not sure if i dare😉

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 29/08/2020 00:05

@justasking111
How horrible for them. My nearest city is Sheffield and it is not nearly as fashionable as Manchester but, compared to Sheffield I have always found it a much less friendly place.

@Pleasedontdothat

that is so very sad. The one positive is that she (on some level) knows she is being irrational as she wasn't trying to tell you what to do (unlike the some of the smunts on mn)

Went outside round to the other side of our block of flats and it looks like they have finally finished the roof at the end of the eleventh week. Hmm

HeIenaDove · 29/08/2020 01:33

i did that just after 6pm obvs before it was dark. The post office thread is giving me the right hump as well.

derxa · 29/08/2020 06:55

I have shouted at the Scottish teaching union man on the radio when he was going on about masks. Told him where he could shove 'em.
Is it this man?

Another mother killed herself and her children, waiting for cancer treatment due to lockdown and her MH spiralled..

Then on BBC dementing about how this is a bad virus for young people, as if for everyone (for more serious cases perhaps but not all) I am so fed up with their reporting.

I only clicked on it to see info about school rotas. Hard to get facts from them without getting the rest.

Anyway looks sunny out so that is something I suppose.

Pixel7777 · 29/08/2020 08:04

Child, sorry not children

bakingcupcakes · 29/08/2020 08:21

@Pleasedontdothat That sounds like an incredibly stressful trip out. I feel very sorry for your friend though. Anxiety is completely crippling when it gets a hold and I'd imagine it'll be much harder to get professional support for those types of things now.

I can't believe the holidays are nearly over. The last few weeks have flown probably because of all the trips out we've had. I'm feeling very nervous about returning to work when DS goes to school. I have to keep telling myself it won't be that bad and I'll get used to it. I've never had a job that requires PPE before. I can't quite believe I've got one now.

Masks in secondary schools will be grim. They won't be looked after properly. Mine are stuffed in my pocket usually or in my bag. They don't get put in a plastic bag first...or washed. If I can't be arsed to follow this tick box exercise properly I can't imagine many teenagers will.

I feel really upset about the environmental impact of the excessive PPE use. I try very hard not to use single use anything so the PPE at work goes completely against the grain for me.
