@TheOrchidKiller

It's a deal, *@nowyoulistentomefella*, & I'm sure we don't need to worry about any of those pesky Brexit trade deals either. Remember when the news was all about Backstops? Those were the days!
God I'd welcome back the non stop incessant talk about Brexit with wide open arms and a huge grin. Jesus we didn't know what was coming!

We'll figure out our own trade deal and shady importing. Don't mind the law.

Stocks of vodka and mouthwash seemed ok, although the gin was very low? Who's been in buying it, come on, own up!

110APiccadilly · 26/08/2020 21:56

@RobinHobb I'm afraid this is going to be rather vague but I'd look at Bupa - when I was a teen we had some sort of family cover with them (came with my dad's job). I think there was a (very good) advice line you could ring and they would refer you as necessary.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 26/08/2020 22:01

@RobinHobb

I've been pretty upbeat all week but it's all getting too much. What worries me is winter - my DC (2yo and 4yo) usually have sniffles all winter. And what if one of them needs a doctor? Sometimes they develop into ear or chest infections needing ABs. Our GP has literally unplugged their land line and asked to make appointments over the website and they'll call back but they never do. I'm scared that we are about to go into winter with no health service and my kids won't have access to doctors. I'm worried enough that I'm willing to sacrifice my emergency nest egg I was keeping for holidays and treats and throw money at it.

Is there such a thing as a private GP? There is no point in using the NHS GP anymore, they have closed their doors. If it's a fever of any sort then it's covid and if it's not covid but I have a fever for some other reason (eg UTI) I am not allowed in the GP practice anyway. There is no recourse - they might as well not be there. I'm worried. How will we get through winter with no healthcare?

There are online doctors that can prescribe - I don't know if that will work for you. This is one but there are others online GP

I've never used them so it's not a recommendation as such.

Dammit I was so knackered after work and desperate to.get out I forgot to stock up on mouthwash😠😠 I will never be a millionaire at this rate!

Sorry to say I was a teeny bit glad when they started mentioning the "novel coronavirus in China" because Brexit wasn't being rammed down our throats non-stop.

I take it back now. Saw a poster this week that reminded us to make sure our passports are "Brexit-ready" ( we need 6 months on a current UK passport to go aboard or something). I wanted to stamp my foot & shout, "Chance would be a fine thing!"

My ds2 often gets a chest infection in winter which sets off his asthma and he ends up on antibiotics and steroids. God help any gp who refuses to see/treat him.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/08/2020 22:09

I've actually still got 2/3s of my lockdown bottle of gin. I managed to keep up stocks of my usual cans. It was a panic buy in case I was stuck in with my nearest and dearest 24/7. Fortunately going out on lovely long runs for over a Govian hour saved my sanity from needing too much gin Grin

RobinHobb · 26/08/2020 22:12

@110APiccadilly
Thank you - my DH work provides PHI via BUPA for the kids so that's good but it only covers referral to specialist care but not for GP care. So for the run of the mill stuff we won't get seen although it's reassuring to have the other stuff. I'll look into it for GP as well though . I'm just worrying.

RobinHobb · 26/08/2020 22:16

@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind
Thank you
I'll have a look at that. Might not be relevant for kids but that should work for me or DH if we get ill. Not so worried about us, just the kids. I guess I am kind of having a little worry attack. There has been no normal cold/sniffles type sickness for the last 6 months and I've forgotten - just woke up with a start that this is all going to change now and there won't necessarily be medical care anymore

But how? I have lost track of number of tonsillitis episodes that she's had, always fever and cough. I've become complacent, but I want to have a plan in place for when it happens so I don't panic and I can stop worrying. Talking to the receptionist at GP and begging/lying used to work to get access but now that's not possible. Can't beg a website....
justasking111 · 26/08/2020 22:36

We took our friends/neighbours out for lunch today OH said they were practically in our bubble we see so much of them. Much closer than 2 metres at the table but like us they have not been out and about. It was lovely no-one mentioned covid once.

I had Savages when it first came out. Fabulous stuff. The dust jacket was
Green jungle leaves with eyes (?) peering out.

I wanted to be the tall, athletic one with brains and a force to be reckoned with.

In reality I’m Suzy - 6 months on rations and I’ve still got (substantial) T&A so they send me out naked jogging to use as bait.

If I may, I’d like to join this thread now, because I feel like I’m about to lose my mind when I open half of the threads of Mumsnet still.

I had a long weekend visiting older relatives and had a few drinks in the sun when it was out and everything felt much more sane.. So I don’t know why I click on these threads that I know will get under my skin?

BamboozledandBefuddled · 27/08/2020 08:52

@RobinHobb We used Medicspot last year when DH needed antibiotics urgently and the NHS were utterly useless. Not cheap but they were honestly worth every penny. The GP who did the video consultation was very thorough. DH's consultation was at a local chemist but they now do phone consultations where you need them. Might be worth you keeping the details in case of emergency, if not for anything else.

We use Benenden health, they have GP phone lines and can do private prescriptions. It is not expensive. They have been good in the past..

I’ve been pondering Giant Doctor. Do you think the guy in that photograph had any idea that his image would be used to shame the world? I’d be furious if it was me.

Pixel7777 · 27/08/2020 09:02

However our GP has done a phone appt and prescribed antibiotics for us and sent to the pharmacy for collection, during this time. So they can do that. They did telephone appts before this too.
