Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Helgathehairy · 20/08/2020 12:46

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

Yoga prayer of examen and early night at least twice a week
Daily bible study
Moisturise after showering
Drink enough/ actually complete drinks I make 😂
100 days to go :)

NewtoHolland · 23/08/2020 19:57

Oh yes..and to sort the house...Mari Kond9 my stuff (kids insist everything brings them joy!)

SillyCow6 · 23/08/2020 20:09

Hi all, can I join in please?

  • Ive already made a start on decluttering the house as we're moving soon but I still have more to do.
  • I need to lose weight and get my eating in order, also I have become such a lazy bones over lockdown that it's an effort to do even the shortest of walks Blush
  • Take vitamins every day, me and kids
  • go to bed earlier and find a routine that better helps me sleep
  • book myself in for a haircut and also keep on top of hair instead of always tying it back

Looking forward to feeling like I have my shit together!

AnaViaSalamanca · 23/08/2020 20:14

Thanks @Helgathehairy. I am inspired by people's goals.

Mine -

  1. post progress on the thread every day (this would be the hardest)
  2. lose 10-14 lbs
  3. exercise 6x a week (running, weights, pilates)
  4. climb at least once every two weeks
  5. get my identity and confidence back and be in an emotionally better place - an extremely vague goal and no idea where to start, but I desperately need this
  6. make new friends away from my old circle
  7. chips/cheat meal once a week only
  8. 10k steps a day regardless of other exercises
  9. 1.5 litres of water per day
  10. max 2 coffees/teas per day

will being from tomorrow

IamShark · 23/08/2020 20:18

@AnaViaSalamanca HI FELLOW CLIMBER!

IamShark · 23/08/2020 20:19

@SillyCow6 I need to do the hair one too (I have enough for now, but I will maybe do that one after Christmas!)

RunningKatie · 23/08/2020 20:21

Today I have done all the ironing the washing machine has died so there are no more clean clothes
I've put away my holiday gear and got DH to clean the downstairs toilet.
My loose plan is:

  1. Start MFP again - I need to shift 3 stone
  2. Less mindless scrolling - I waste too much time
  3. Follow TeamTOMM method using time when kids are in school and I'm wfh so not commuting
  4. Do TeamTOMM Organised Christmas (starts next week I think)
  5. Do at least 10k steps a day
  6. Read for pleasure
soloula · 23/08/2020 20:34

So today I have (with the help of DH where relevant as housework is a joint effort - mostly 😬)

  1. Cleared all our laundry away that was piling up in our bedroom
  2. Downloaded the Team TOMM and Fabulous apps
  3. Cleared out a load of paperwork ready to be shredded this week
  4. Stuck to my WW points.
  5. Cleaned the kitchen after dinner so we're not waking up to a pile of dirty dishes
  6. Cleared my sewing table ready for my next project
  7. Ordered wool for a new crochet blanket to match our newly decorated living room
  8. Downloaded all the materials for my next OU units. I'm behind and plan to catch up this week.

My focus for this week is developing good habits (and breaking bad ones!) including exercise, diet and getting some time for spending on my hobbies = some me-time.

Cornishmendoitdrekkly · 23/08/2020 20:34

Day 100

  1. Blow dried my hair carefully into a bouncy Bob rather than the air dried hedge backwards look I have sported for the last 6 weeks. DH and DD noticed and commented. I was really really pleased with myself.
  2. Defuzzed the legs and applied body moisturiser....they didn't notice this but I Know Wink

Start the diet properly tomorrow. Smile

Karcheer · 23/08/2020 20:45

@RunningKatie what is TeamTOMM?

Ok - Ive worked out 10 areas of my life that need improvement.

Fashion, Beauty, Diet, Exercise, House, Garden, Family/Husband, Friends, Job.

Im planning on doing one thing from each every day.

So for tomorrow...
Fashion - We recently moved house and I've been living out of cardboard boxes. Im going to put my clothes in the spare room wardrobe. I had been waiting till we built wardrobes in my new dressing room but this won't happen till mid Oct and the current situation is driving me insane.
Beauty - Order a Primer and a setting spray.
Diet - Arrange online delivery (healthy food).
Exercise - Start day 1 of Adrienne's 30 days of Yoga.
House - Sort out the Kitchen, may include ordering some storage solutions.
Garden - Cut grass.
Family/Husband - Call my parents.
Friends - Call a friend
Job - Check all money that's owed to me has been paid - I should've done this along time ago.

Capsulate · 23/08/2020 20:47

Team TOMM is a cleaning schedule to help organise your house. That's a good shout! I might join in with that.

gassylady · 23/08/2020 21:00

I’ve done my language practice, sold some old phones (need to post tomorrow) I found in a drawer. Just making a cuppa then I can sit down and read a bit of my book. Actually took my vitamin this morning too. Grin
Problem is I keep reading other peoples lists and thinking ohh that’s a good one must resist and keep it doable

SillyCow6 · 23/08/2020 21:06

@soloula what is the fabulous app? I could do with being a little bit fab!!

@IamShark I am terrible for it. I find having my hair down makes me very hot as its so thick but it goes all frizzy and unkempt when tied back and I dont like that either

@AnaViaSalamanca I would like to join in with your #4, if you come up with any ideas then please do pass them on!

montymum · 23/08/2020 21:12

I would love to join you in too. I am going to sit and think about what I want to achieve in the next 100 days!

soloula · 23/08/2020 21:22

@SillyCow6

Fabulous is a habit building app. I came across it on the play store and it had really good reviews and loads of downloads so thought I'd give it a go. From what I seen so far, it adds new habits every few days, giving you time to consolidate each of the habits. I think the first few habits are quite generic but as you go you can tailor them more to your needs. I start properly tomorrow and for the first few days I've just to drink a glass of water when I wake up.

Sportycustard · 23/08/2020 21:27

I am beating myself up for squandering the good start I had made at the start of the year during lockdown.

This will give me the kick start I need.

Me, DH,DS and DD worked for 4 hours on the garage dumping ground today. Loads of things given away and two jam packed car loads to the tip.

I am going to
1 read more than I scroll through Facebook
2 go back to the meditation app I was using
3 fast breakfast each day and eat healthily for the other meals
4 get back into wearing make up most days (look dead without)
5 go to bed by 11pm
6 go to the gym three days a week and do a walk on 3 more days
7 paint the spare bedroom and the office
8 drink 2 bottles of water each day
9 do one thing at a time - no phone scrolling when watching tv with DH
10 try one new recipe each week

SillyCow6 · 23/08/2020 21:39

Thanks @soloula I could do with that, I'll have a look at it.

@Sportycustard I feel the same, I was doing so well back in April, then somewhere between May and June everything went downhill Hmm
We can get back on track though, and we will!

Piixxiiee · 23/08/2020 21:43

I'm in please. About to start a new full time job.... think I'm in over my head...

  1. stop snacking at night!
  2. hot water and lemon in morning
  3. vitamins every day
  4. meal plan, weekly shop, prep lunches
  5. 5 fruit and veg every day
  6. organise kids (book bags, uniform etc)
  7. capsule wardrobe
  8. exercise even if only 10 mins a day
mum2jakie · 23/08/2020 21:45

What an inspirational thread!!

I'm determined to make some improvements to me personally as well as the home, so hopefully joining this thread will help to keep me motivated and on track.

Day 100:
Kitchen shelf cleared and tidied
Freezer drawer cleared and organised
Packed lunch made for work
Iron supplement and vits taken

Solongtoshort · 23/08/2020 23:09

Hi all living your updates

Day 100- first day of tracking on ww went well and tonight l have done a 20 min yoga video. I went out and bought a Fitbit too. I changed all beds and everyone’s wardrobe and draws have had a sort and tidy so l have some things to take to recycling/ charity tomorrow. I have put a few things on facebook market place and free to you sites,so l feel like l have done ok. I was aiming to have a good tidy of each room one per week but because the kids rooms have recently been done and the toy room there’s not much else to do. The kitchen cupboards and the garage are going to be the biggest thing, l hate the garage as well l might try and turn it into a laundry room, we don’t use it as a garage.

I have been in bed since 10.30 l am just wide awake no chance of sleep.

I have made my list for tomorrow already. It really helps to keep you focused so thanks for the tip.

Night everyone.

CrabtreeEstate · 24/08/2020 06:23

Hey can I join this one too?
Big one for me is weight loss, but I'm also a heavy drinker so I'm going to combine the 2 and do 100 days sober (even though my birthday is October! sob sob)

I really do think that cutting out the wine completely will do wonders for my weight and overall health. I am not capable of "just one glass" so it has to be all or nothing.

Plus, to help myself along, I'm going to copy a PP, and put £1 away for every alcohol-free day, so I will have £100 to spend on a Christmas outfit come 1st December Smile lovely.

So yesterday, no booze for me.
Today, hopped on the scale this morning. Nearly 20lbs heavier since start of Covid. Horrified but motivated. Back on my weekday fasting.

Other 100 day tasks: get house tidied/decluttered. Finish my qualification. Get shithole of a garden sorted.

Good luck everyone Smile

Snipples · 24/08/2020 06:39

Great idea for a thread - can I join please? I had second baby about 4 months ago and need to shift baby bulge. Also relocating countries next year so NEED to seriously declutter house before then. Back to work in Jan so this is fab timing to get everything done.

Day 99 - going for a swim this morning before baby sensory class. Will log lunch after on MFP and aim to keep cals down.

Let's do this!

Friendsoftheearth · 24/08/2020 07:08

Day one went well! No alcohol, exercise done, house almost decluttered.

Day two: Healthy salads all day already prepared. Exercise is on the morning list.
I am going to buy some new knitwear ready for the autumn and winter today. My wardrobe needs a serious overhaul. This year I have put together the outfits in advance, so I know exactly what I am looking for.

Will book in that pedicure today and remember my 8 glasses of water with lemon and basil.

TurnOffTheTv · 24/08/2020 07:23

Morning all!
Lemon water ✔️
Meditation ✔️
Kitchen cleaned and washing on ✔️
Just about to start workout.

Weighing in at 10st 3 and meal plan for today is
Poached eggs, spinach and mushrooms
Chicken tikka salad
Lentil and halloumi salad
Eat natural bar
Yogurt and berries for snack

Have a great day everyone!

Helgathehairy · 24/08/2020 11:08

DAY 99

Weighed myself this morning - 11 stone exactly which means I have 2 stone to lose!

Had to go shopping today as DD needed runners and ended up buying her 2 pairs which wasn’t the plan but they’re her only pairs now.
Also bought wellies as we live rurally and wellies are essential!
