How do YOU make the best bacon sandwich?

I went to a (fairly new) friend's house yesterday for brunch and she made bacon sandwiches. It was wholemeal bread, buttered and toasted, with a little pot of runny honey on the side to dip it in to. I was puzzled at first but fuck me was it lush.

Got me thinking about my own best bacon sangers. If I'm feeling basic I like plastic bread, loads of lurpak and loads of ketchup.

If I'm feeling fancy it's gotta be thick cut untoasted granary. Again with lurpak. Bacon, avocado, a few chilli flakes and maybe a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

What are your winners?

All these mentions of streaky bacon. I only ever buy it to put on the turkey at crimbo?

Is it better than back bacon for a sarnie then?

No. Back bacon has the right bread bacon ratio. It has its place other than Christmas turkey. But not on this thread. Likewise bacon sarnie without butter, what is the point?

Butter has no place in a bacon sandwich for me though. Anything other than bacon detracts from the perfection.

Thick, fresh white bread untrusted, salted butter, bacon just crispy, tomato ketchup.

@EasilyDelighted. But the slightly melted slippery butter and the bread and the salty bacon. It’s perfect.

No, the melted butter makes it all greasy and horrible. I like butter but never in a bacon or sausage sandwich.

White oven bottomed muffin

I was once so hungover at a friend's house and her Dad was cooking breakfast. He served bacon medallions, wee Willie winkie sausages, and those wee 400g loaf slices of wholemeal bread, no butter, cheap own brand watery ketchup. I was devastated. Bacon medallions are NOT FOOD.

I love a thick white bread sandwich with a bit too much lurpak, crispy grilled smoked back bacon, dipped in ketchup.

Or our bougie version, seeded bread, 1 slice spread with lurpak, the other with mashed avocado with plenty salt and lime juice, oven cooked crispy smoked bacon - 4 slices, a crispy on the bottom, very runny fried egg, and a huge splash of Frank's red hot wing sauce. It's a game changer.

Currently doing slimming world and just waiting for my next cheat day to eat several bacon sandwiches!!

I hate to be one of those OPs that comes back to their own thread just to revive it. But yep I'm gonna.

Just had a bacon sandwich off the back of this thread. Combining some of the best ideas. Smoked (which I never buy) back bacon, on toasted wholemeal with loads of lurpak, mixed leaves, mayo and HP fruity sauce. STBXH is here and he said it's truly the best bacon sandwich he's ever had. And I've made him several over the years.

Thick white bread cut from a fresh loaf, salted real butter, good quality bacon (all fat cut off for me) cooked until just crispy then either ketchup or chilli cheese on top melted under the grill.

My favourite is Brie, bacon & cranberry though.

Bacon cooked until crispy then dip white bread into the bacon juices.

@JadesRollerDisco

Or bacon, mashed avocado, tomato, lettuce, mayo and finely sliced red onions in crunchy french bread

This is pretty much what I do but with multigrain bread instead of a baguette. This is literally the only time I ever buy mayo either because I hate it otherwise. And I only use streaky bacon. I don’t like the way back bacon cooks up.

Fry the bread with the bacon. Just for about 30 seconds on each side. Serve with a fried egg.
