How do YOU make the best bacon sandwich?

I went to a (fairly new) friend's house yesterday for brunch and she made bacon sandwiches. It was wholemeal bread, buttered and toasted, with a little pot of runny honey on the side to dip it in to. I was puzzled at first but fuck me was it lush.

Got me thinking about my own best bacon sangers. If I'm feeling basic I like plastic bread, loads of lurpak and loads of ketchup.

If I'm feeling fancy it's gotta be thick cut untoasted granary. Again with lurpak. Bacon, avocado, a few chilli flakes and maybe a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

What are your winners?

Granary bread (untoasted), salted butter, unsmoked bacon medallions, dash of ketchup. Yum!

Peach1204 · 19/08/2020 21:32

Tiger bread, bacon, hash browns, runny fried egg and some tomato ketchup - I want bacon now!

Toasted seeded bread, crispy bacon, grated cheddar cheese & HP brown sauce

@AriettyHomily

Bog standard white bread, kingsmill or similar, has to be super fresh and soft.

Proper butter, crispyish streaky bacon but into the butter while still warm.

Squash flat with back of hand.

I don't like fancy bacon sandwiches!

Yes! That's exactly how I like them. The bread needs to be so fresh and soft that when you squash the sandwich flat it leaves fingerprints Grin

Some absolute winners!

Me: toasted seeded bread, salted butter, slightly crisp bacon and chilli jam! Cup of tea. In silence.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/08/2020 21:51

I fry the bacon in butter till it's crispy. Then I dip the bread or rolls into the buttery bacon fat and fry them slightly. Then I sandwich the two together and serve.

Everyone who's ever tried them has been instantly converted to my method.

PurBal · 19/08/2020 21:54

Seeded bread. Bottom slice of bread toasted, top not toasted. Trust me. Avocado. Smoked bacon. Chilli ketchup.

SconNotScone · 19/08/2020 21:56

I like thick white bread and smoked back bacon, 3 rashers, fat trimmed off. Bacon fried, then the bread put into the pan for a minute or so to soak up all the yummy bacon fat and go a bit crispy on one side. Then a splodge of ketchup, spread with a knife. No butter. Yum yum.

EasilyDelighted · 19/08/2020 21:59

Crusty white bread dipped in the grill pan, crispy unsmoked streaky drycure bacon, nothing else.

No sauce, no butter, nothing.

Yes. This is the way. A dash of maple syrup and a spread of Dijon mustard take it a step further towards heaven. Bread cut thickly from a homemade loaf add to perfection.

I like white bread, thick butter and ketchup but also on wholemeal toast with mushroom and HP.

On a naan with mango chutney, chilli, soft boiled egg and coriander is a new favourite of mine.

Smoked bacon on a hot cross bun.

Bacon on toast with salad cream.

There is no wrong way to eat a bacon butty,

thisstooshallpass · 19/08/2020 22:03

Also, I tend to like ketchup with smoked and HP with non-smoked.

Dolmolandsnowdrops · 19/08/2020 22:05

I like white danish bread and fried crispy unsmoked streaky rashers with lots of brown sauce, nothing else, but it’s good if you pop the bread slices in the pan for a minute or so after the bacon! My favourite breakfast!

EwwSprouts · 19/08/2020 22:08

White bread, butter only on one slice, grilled to crispy bacon & fried mushrooms with black pepper.

morosetinkler · 19/08/2020 22:11

Either:

Bacon
Crusty bread
fry the bacon in chilli oil

Or:

Bacon
Crusty bread
Olive oil
Mango and Chilli chutney or red onion marmalade

Or

Baked egg
Bacon
Crusty bread

We have a local farm who keep their own pigs and do the whole process themselves from field to plate, their bacon is delicious.

MyPersona · 19/08/2020 22:11

Smoked dry cured bacon, white crusty bread dipped in the bacon fat. No butter, brown sauce if you must.

Mistymonday · 19/08/2020 22:13
  1. Take a pig. 2. Give it a nice salad sandwich.

Best and only acceptable method! Grin

AriesTheRam · 19/08/2020 22:17

Toasted sesame bagel,buttered.
Well done bacon.
Hash brown
Cheese slice
Tomato sauce

kingdomcapers · 19/08/2020 22:27

White farmhouse bread, streaky bacon, at least 6 rashers, black pudding. Maybe a little smear of tommy sauce. Fry the bacon and use the bread to soak up some of the bacon fat.

rslsys · 19/08/2020 22:30

Wholemeal Sourdough, salted butter, dry cured back bacon and Stokes brown sauce - you know it makes sense!

PenguinsOnParade · 19/08/2020 22:33

Morning rolls from our local bakery, so soft, not floury but just so tasty, plenty of salted butter, bacon cooked until crispy but not burnt (used to only like unsmoked but have had a preference for smoked since a trip to the US a couple of years ago). Bit of HP sauce and it's perfect. Sometimes I won't use the sauce and have a nice runny fried egg instead. Definitely no sauce at all when there's an egg.

Holothane · 19/08/2020 22:38

Very crispy burnt bacon, thick bread wonderful.

eveningfalls · 20/08/2020 00:00

crusty white bread toasted
maple-smoked bacon
mature (and crumbly) cheddar
spring onion
butter like kerrygold
few sugar drop tomatoes
brown sauce

Homebodiva · 20/08/2020 00:07

Any bread really but its got to be ketchup with cold sliced tomato. Gotta be crispy. Poshest bacon I can afford, to pretend it's not that unhealthy 😂

If I am raiding the fridge, with grated mature cheddar cheese.

Franticbutterfly · 20/08/2020 00:50

No butter. White bread. Plenty of sauce (red and brown).
