How do YOU make the best bacon sandwich?

I went to a (fairly new) friend's house yesterday for brunch and she made bacon sandwiches. It was wholemeal bread, buttered and toasted, with a little pot of runny honey on the side to dip it in to. I was puzzled at first but fuck me was it lush.

Got me thinking about my own best bacon sangers. If I'm feeling basic I like plastic bread, loads of lurpak and loads of ketchup.

If I'm feeling fancy it's gotta be thick cut untoasted granary. Again with lurpak. Bacon, avocado, a few chilli flakes and maybe a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

What are your winners?

Got to be a BLT- freshly baked thick cut white bread, pesto mayonnaise, bacon, lettuce, and sliced beef tomato.

AriettyHomily · 19/08/2020 16:22

Bog standard white bread, kingsmill or similar, has to be super fresh and soft.

Proper butter, crispyish streaky bacon but into the butter while still warm.

Squash flat with back of hand.

I don't like fancy bacon sandwiches!

Depends - hungover or a bit in need of comfort - crappy white roll or a morning roll - smoky back bacon grilled till crispy, butter and ketchup or an egg.

If wanting something a bit fancy - avocado, seeded sourdough, grilled tomatoes, crispy back bacon and a bit of mayo.

justtheonethen · 19/08/2020 16:34

French stick, crispy bacon, avocado, brie and mango chutney.

SospanFrangipan · 19/08/2020 16:44

Roberts white medium loaf, loadssss of lurpak, thick back bacon (not too crispy), Red Leicester, and salad cream 😋😋

BeeyatchPlease · 19/08/2020 16:51

Scottish morning roll, no butter, whole packet of bacon, fried in lard.....it's the stuff of dreams!
I usually have it with ketchup or a runny egg.
Builders tea also mandatory

AiryFairyArtyFarty · 19/08/2020 16:52

Thick white bread, salted butter, smoked bacon & HP sauce.
Who are these people fucking around with chilli flakes and avocado?
Some people have no class Grin

Ariela · 19/08/2020 16:55

Top quality smoked bacon from our local butchers - cooked to perfection.
Top quality bread from our local bakery, thickly sliced and buttered with a smidge of Waitrose salted butter.
Egg - from our hens, still warm when collected , cooked till just runny.

pinkyboots1 · 19/08/2020 17:10

Wholemeal toast spread with lighter than light mayo and unsmoked bacon medallions.. all visible fat cut off. (Can you tell I'm on Slimming World! 😀😀

silentpool · 19/08/2020 17:13

Fresh naan bread or sourdough, crispy bacon (airfryer), red onion, avocado, brown sauce or chutney.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 19/08/2020 17:14

RunningHoops · 19/08/2020 17:59

Bugger, now I need a bacon sarnie. 😟

BettaSplenden · 19/08/2020 18:05

@catinboots2 yeah honestly it works. Just use a slotted spoon to serve so its not too wet. Bonus point for butter on the bread.

MrsKeats · 19/08/2020 18:06

Honey Shock

minnieok · 19/08/2020 18:11

Granary loaf (I have Lidl's wholemeal with seeds actually), good bacon, dry cured smoked is my preference fried to slightly crispy (coloured edges but not stiff all over) and ripe avocado spread over the bread. Also delicious this way on ciabatta

Crispy bacon, toasted white bread, chilli jam and Brie - melt the whole thing under a hot grill. You’re welcome.

Roominmyhouse · 19/08/2020 21:21

Fresh crusty bread.
Smoked streaky bacon cooked until just going crispy.
Ketchup.

Bacon has to be cooked just right. I can’t bear wobbly under cooked bacon!

Bairnsmum05 · 19/08/2020 21:23

Mortons crispy roll with a tattie scone and broon sauce, my mouth is watering!!

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/08/2020 21:25

You're all wrong!

2 slices of Warburtons Toastie orange paper packet. Must be fresh.

3 slices smoked back bacon grilled until crisp.

No butter, sauce, avocado, honey, lettuce.

Just bacon and bread and it's sublime.

Titsywoo · 19/08/2020 21:26

Two of my best friends have made me the best and worst bacon sarnies I have ever had.

First friend always had fresh white unsliced bread in her bread bin and proper butter (in a butter dish). Thick slices (about an inch thick) with lots of salted butter and crispy bacon plus ketchup. Amazing.

My other friend - toasted wholemeal bread (standard supermarket pre-sliced stuff), NO BUTTER and overcooked bacon. Plus no ketchup. Sad dry old meal.

MintyCedric · 19/08/2020 21:26

Fresh sliced crusty white bread, crispy smoked bacon, fried egg with the yolk popped so it's evenly distributed, brown sauce.

OhTheRoses · 19/08/2020 21:27

It doesn't matter what the accompaniments are but it has to include top quality bacon, fried to perfection, and that tastes like well fed pig.

The bread should be fresh and well made, toasted or untoasted. A scrape of top quality butter if absolutely necessary. And with a drizzle of hot bacon fat. A smear of yellow Coleman's, the rashers added (three, not two - don't be mean). The crisp of the bacon fat has to complement the softness of the unctious bread.

I believe it's called heaven. Even papa who was Jewish couldn't resist in a quiet moment. Not frum, I must add.
