ADs deflower male cucumbers for the Greater Good. All phallic aubergines welcome .

Because bitter male cucumbers don't bring joy, but phallic aubergines can raise an irreverent smile.

AD chat continues about life, the universe and everything. We know the answer is 42 but what is the question?
6x7?
How many roads must a man walk down?
How many unsadly reincarnations have PHE put into the database?

Good luck, Domina!

@Welcometothelifeboatparty

Taken this from a BBC News story today:

"Data released on Thursday by NHS England showed that rising cases were not matched by an increase in the number of people in hospital in the NHS trusts that serve either of these councils (Leicester and Blackburn).
The number of people admitted to hospital for the first time with Covid-19 did increase in Leicester in June, but the rise was much smaller than the rise in confirmed cases.
In July, Leicester saw 1,336 cases but only seven people were admitted to hospital with Covid-19"

Looks suspiciously like good news to me.

Having shared that, I'm off out to walk the dog. Or at least, drop my dd at the park so she can do it Grin

I had wondered if it was something to do with the increase in cases not being followed by rises in admissions and deaths. It's about the right kind of lag time from the delay to resuming for that kind of concern to be observed.

Just seen a parkrun update about their general stance on Covid policy. At present New Zealand is the only country where it is operating. They have adjusted to a regional stance in the light of localised restrictions in many countries. The data they hold on volunteers present and barcode participants is sufficient for track and trace. It all looks fairly sensible and low key. I supect that the main practicality will be encouraging distancing and discouraging practices that encourage clustering such as pacers. I think numbers will be down and take a while to build confidence ànyway. The last Saturday before things really shut down, I was assistant Run Director as part of a Girl Guiding take over (I normally just RD at the juniors, which I did next day and 5 months later, still have the RD box, glad I didn't leave the bibs in a musty store!). That parkrun normally has 500-600, but was down to either 300 or 400, and the weather wasn't particularly bad either.

If sports can resume with spectators from October... surely running events of healthy participants can resume? I hope. I need something purposeful in my life again.
I was hoping to get my 50 t-shirt by my birthday at the end of the winter, but there was disruption from storms so I revised it to Easter. I think I'm on about 47?

Thanks for the new thread @BogRollBOGOF and agree that will confuse them!

Checking in and then checking out. Away for the weekend running a taxi service. I booked my daughters on a residential trip to Norh Yorkshire last year and to our great surprise it hasn't been cancelled so they are going to enjoy a week on the North Yorks Moors. Hopefully will do DD1 the world of good. Not only to be in such a beautiful place enjoying the great outdoors but with her peer group away from her olds.

BakewellTarts · 14/08/2020 11:58

@Welcometothelifeboatparty that does sound very positive.

BakewellTarts · 14/08/2020 12:01

@DominaShantotto good luck from me too. I know you've been working hard so you've got this.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 14/08/2020 12:12

Best of luck Domina

NothingIsWrong · 14/08/2020 12:13

@BakewellTarts it's my absolutely favourite part of the world. Grew up in York, spent a year living in Whitby. I miss it dreadfully now I'm Oxfordshire resident

On the end of the last thread, what is baking gin?

A previous comment 'baking gin is essential' was intended to read as '@bakingcupcakes, 'Gin is essential'

And of course - we now all want 'baking gin'

@Butterer Fri 14-Aug-20 00:40:13

Apparently stress conditions and/or male flowers left on cucumber plants can make the fruit from the female flowers bitter.

Stress conditions and/or males can make females bitter. So it's not just cucumbers 😜

countrygirl99 · 14/08/2020 12:39

@IAintentDead I have a bottle of what we refer to as cooking gin ready to make damson gin.

Dowser · 14/08/2020 12:43

@ISaySteadyOn
The more you do it the easier it gets
@BogRollBOGOF thanks for the new thread.. I was going nowhere near it 😂

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 14/08/2020 12:44

I’d be having a lunchtime gin today if I didn’t have to drive later. The D is strong today. WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!

AIBU to expect “government clowns” to provide body bags or would I be a responsible citizen in sourcing my own?

School rang this morning to see how they got on yesterday. Apparently they’d been seen in the playground with huge grins and having tons of fun playing with friends.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/08/2020 12:51

I didn’t know cucumbers could be male or female. Also how can you tell.

That's brilliant

Vintagelovingmum · 14/08/2020 12:58

Good luck @DominaShantotto!

I've cracked open the wine to have a spritzer (it's friday and after midday) after attempting 3 activities in 5 minutes with my 2.5 yr old all involving about 5 minutes prep time each so we're back to watching some tv and having lunch

Going to go blackberry/sloe/hawthorn picking later maybe to make some various alcoholic gifts for christmas presents

Willow2017 · 14/08/2020 12:59

Pass the gin. I am stabby!! People are arseholes! 3 fecking hours serving arseholes!

Dowser · 14/08/2020 13:00

My dahlias grown from tubers are so disappointing. Loads of leaves and are strong healthy plants, hardly any flower buds and still no flowers.
What went wrong?

All this talk of bitter cucumbers forced, I say forced mind you to conduct an experiment.

I took 5 hard as hell plums
I put one on the ho’oponopono, one I left as normal, one I’ve sprayed with colloidal silver having read how much it preserves peoples produce, one I tell it’s an ugly little fucker, sour and bitter and the worst of the crop and one I’ve told it’s beautiful, soft, sweet and juicy and the best of the crop

We shall see what happens. They’ve all in the same room, on pieces of white paper and the ugly fucker and the beautiful one have the words written on the paper.

Dowser · 14/08/2020 13:02

We are going to Helmsley this afternoon as we enjoyed it so much last week.

We'll be there on Sunday. Its a lovely town.
Hellohello2020 · 14/08/2020 13:06

What about coV-sars-2 that never caught on.

Littlebelina · 14/08/2020 13:06

@BogRollBOGOF

I drifted away from the mum friends around RTW time. Many of us went part time, but my days didn't seem to match the consensus, and it all drifted. I also wasn't in the same neighbourhood which is a bit out of the way.

The school mums had all bonded over school nursery so while we're friendly for small talk, I've never been in the inner circle, and more critically, neither have the DCs.

Yep, it's the dc I worry about more. I get proper anxiety organising playdates and it doesn't come easily. It's good to know others feel similarly though, that's why I like these threads as know people are supportive even if they aren't in the same place. Would probably be told to get a grip elsewhere on mumsnet.

That explains baking gin, maybe it should be part of our next thread title?

Hangs head in shame. Twas only after I hit post I realised I made a balls of it 😬

I am almost 75% sure I have a cake recipe that calls for gin in one of my many decorative cool books.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 14/08/2020 13:11

Cook not cool ffs

IAintentDead · 14/08/2020 13:28

@NowYouListenToMeFella

don't apologise, all humour is appreciated whether intentional or not. In fact, the unintentional is funnier for being that way. 👍👍

DrearyWallAntler · 14/08/2020 13:38

I make a bloody good gin and tonic sorbet

DrearyWallAntler · 14/08/2020 13:41

It's this:

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/gin-tonic-sorbet%3famp

But I use juice of a whole lemon and 6tbsp of gin
