Stonehaven train derailment

Anyone else watching? We live about 40 miles north . Can’t quite believe it . My parents used to live in the fields directly above Carmont signal station about 35 years ago and remember the weather causing problems for the line even back then . Very, very steep hills on both sides .

Looks very bad from what’s being said online/on rolling news . Fields are just packed with emergency vehicles/choppers . Just horrific .

I think the train discovered a landslide so then it change track and headed north again and that's when the line gave way.

I'm only going from what I've seen on local social media, but am not surprised re the press.

Bloody hell. That is awful.

I know drumlithie very well. That small village will be rocked by this :(

@lyralalala having read back today I think there are crossed wires. I wasn't responding to you but to Jargo.

Jargo · 13/08/2020 08:48

@lyralalala I wasn't suggesting that the train had been "lost" for three hours.

Just that there was no accounting for the delays, particularly as those would have been for HSE reasons.

Re doorstepping the bereaved - 'twas ever thus. (Vile practice). A former colleague had started his working life as a trainee journalist. He gave it all up after being asked to do exactly that. He just couldn't do it.

@TitianaTitsling

Am so angry at bloody daily record who doorstepped the driver's wife hours after it happened then report 'she didn't want to talk.
That's disgraceful Shock

Did they think she was going to invite them in for tea and biscuits

The dictionary definition of gutter press, right there. Angry

Them and the Scottish Sun who apparently thought it appropriate to go with the headline Death Express . Absolute heartless bastards .

TitianaTitsling · 14/08/2020 23:29

Have signed and shared that petition @icedaisy it disgusts me, family travel that route regularly. Not that it makes a difference, it's bloody appalling.
