How often go you wash your bedsheets?

I put freshly washed line dried bedsheets on last night and it was lovely to sleep in the bed, as it always is!

I've just sat on a tube of moisturiser/tanning lotion and didn't realise (arse must be fatter than I realise) and half of it is now on my bed/shorts. I text my friend saying this just happened lol. Why is it always fresh sheets? Sort of message. I now wonder if I'm a bit of a rotter as she text back saying wouldn't you be putting fresh ones on tonight anyway?!

I change mine weekly. Usually a Friday task. Summer may change this but I don't sleep under the duvet if it's too hot so it doesn't automatically change in summer?!

And what about towels?

For me the duvet cover, sheets and pillowcases get washed every weekend. The bedroom windows stay open all year round to keep the room aired out. If one of us is ill with the cold/flu I'll change them an extra time on the day we start to feel better again.

I couldn't go longer than a week. But I don't really have time to do it more than once a week because I live in a flat and drying space is limited.

Gulp!!

When they need it.

I don't have a set day. I have a sheet wash day when the washing machine is free and the weather is nice, but it can be anything up to four weeks in between.

I am minging obviously!!

I change pillowcases about weekly, sheets maybe monthly and duvet covers probably every couple of months. Honestly don't have the time, inclination or drying space to be washing 4 sets of full bed linen weekly.

Grin it stands for The Organised Mum Method. She’s got a book/insta/fb group. It’s a way of doing 30 minutes of cleaning each day to keep on top of the housework. She’s got a big following and Tuesday is bedrooms day so it’s ended up being called ‘Clean Sheet Tuesday’.

For those of us who aren’t naturally good at keeping on top of cleaning it’s really helpful.

Maybe she means your pjs?

I change pjs every night.
Towels every two days.
Sheets usually once a week but have been doing twice a week.

'Every two weeks but I air the bed daily'? @KatherineofTarragon

Does that mean you don't make the beds? Confused

FOUR WEEKS??????

Are you serious?!

Surely this is a wind up?

I do mine every 2-3 months. Seriously. I shower before bed as does DH so they stay clean.

I have health probs and it is really hard to do the bed and all the washing that it entails.

I have had a hand operation last October and it was 8 months before I could change the bed. Hahaha was a bit mustyGrin

Can't your husband change the sheets? Why does it have to be down to you? I also don't know why showering every night means you don't need to wash your bedsheets?

@MonsteraCheeseplant

Yup! Is that gross?

@MonsteraCheeseplant

Sweating whilst you sleep? No that’s not gross

Sleeping on sheets with dried sweat accumulating day after day as you say you air your bed to “dry it” out from sweat, yes - that’s pretty gross

I used to change mine every time I saw this question asked on mn. But it ended up being too often.

Aside from changing your sheets daily, it's inevitable...

Weekly in winter but between the dreaded menopause and the hot weather I'm changing the bottom sheet most days/ every couple of days at the moment. This is not usual for me at all but at the moment it just feel clammy as I'm getting up so taking it off seems preferable to leaving it on the bed to dry in. It's only the sheet so maybe 2 loads of washing a week. Not too onerous and great weather for line drying. I do not iron!

@ComeOn i wish! I basically fold the duvet over in half and fling the pillows around a bit. Folding the duvet in half sort of airs the flat sheet.

We bath every eve so really when we get to bed we are not that dirty. 2 weeks between bed cover changes. Hate making the beds up after washing the covers!

I do mine twice a week, purely because I prefer white bedsheets and no matter how hard I try, I cannot keep my very big dog off my bed. This means that it's constantly getting covered in paw prints and needs washed

Oh my! How do you all find the time???? We have a super king and 2 of the kids are in doubles plus another single. I do them every 2wks but it takes Hours and hours. I physically struggle to make my own bed it’s so huge.

We only have one bed to change which probably makes it much easier Grin

Beds changed every Saturday morning - last one up strips the bed and re-makes it, and the bedding goes straight in the wash - we have a washer/dryer so don't even need to move wet bedding into a different machine. We have 2-3 sets to rotate between so overall it probably take 10 minutes to do.

Why are you spending hours changing the beds?

How do you find the time?

Well, I don't think anyone is taking their sheets down to the river with a washboard. Takes me about 3 minutes to strip bed and get to washing machine.

Report
NellyJames · 12/08/2020 12:27

@vanillandhoney, not hours just on stripping but washing 5 sets of bedding, 1 x super king, 2 x double and 1 x single. Ours takes up most of the washing machine. Plus 2 more washes as the other 3 sets don’t all fit in at once. Then, unless weather is great, they all need drying. Our duvet cover is so huge it needs to go in by itself then various loads of all the rest including 9 pillowcases! Grin It takes me forever to make our bed as it’s huge and the duvet in winter is almost too heavy for me to lift. It just all takes a long time.

NellyJames · 12/08/2020 12:28

@ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress but it’s not just one simple double bed as I’ve said above.

Well, that explains why the environment is fucked up.
