Have you driven through Glencoe?

It's utterly spectacular. Breathtaking. Glorious.

I've driven through it quite a few times and it always takes my breath away.

It’s my favourite drive, love the majesty of the mountains, puts things in perspective for me on those days when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

It's amazing. Really awe inspiring. We have a holiday booked there for October. I cant wait.

First place dh took me on our first trip away.. Never gets any less amazing...

I drove through there late afternoon one autumn. The cloud was very low and it was really eerie. I'm sure it would be spectacular on a nice day, but on that day we couldn't wait to get out.

Yes many times. Absolutely wonderful.

Unfortunately last year it just made me so angry and sad. Stopped in designated lay by for rest and leg stretch. The verge was absolutely full of rubbish, human faeces, bags of dog shit, BBQ trays. There must be three bins and this is all on the banking behind them. One of the most beautiful places in the world and people leave rubbish.

Ps to the pp a pee is no drama, but leaving a poo is another matter. I never understand people who bag dog poo and leave it either.

It is very atmospheric and seems to get into your soul. It does mine anyway. I absolutely love it.

@ssd I couldn't believe it. I then started googling and NTS glencoe have a Facebook page for volunteers. 92 bags of rubbish in one day collected last year. They have a friends of Nevis litter pick regularly, so sad.

Yes! It definitely felt totally unreal and was a wonderful experience.

It's even nicer going through it on the train because you just get to relax and look at the views and see it from another perspective.

Not good news about the mess left behind though, unfortunately that is more and more common at any beauty spot.

Very fond memories of Glencoe. My husband proposed to me there. We had been hiking and stopped to eat our lunch, surrounded by curious sheep in the breathtaking landscape, and he proposed. We stopped off in the lake district on our way back home and he bought my wedding ring at an antiques fair at the Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere. 34 years and two DC later, we're still going strong, and still hiking!

We drove through it on the last day of a wonderful fortnight in Scotland. Absolutely beautiful. We were going from Fort William straight to the airport in Edinburgh. Luckily we gave ourselves hours extra time. In one of the small towns/villages, a lorry got stuck under a bridge and traffic was backed up for miles either direction for about an hour. No alternative route either. As we sat stopped in the car several women from the houses on the street came out and knocked on our cars and asked if we needed to use the loo, or needed a cup of tea, or if the kids needed anything. They went from car to car - was a really lovely experience.

Many times , just beautiful. (I’m a nee MacDonald and feel the pull!).

Have you driven the full 500 though, ending at Applecross? It’s something else. Surpasses Glencoe (sorry, ancestors). Every bend in the road, you hold your breath just a bit longer than the last.

I was in Glencoe last week on holiday, the mountains were amazing as always but there was so much rubbish in the laybys and also through the glen where people have wildcamped.

If you like Glencoe it's well worth the detour into Glen Etive. I stayed it a holiday cottage there last year, Amazing views, roaring river and deer in garden, blissful

Yes - in the middle of January. The first day it was completely white with snow and just breathtaking (we went up to sledge on the mountain which was amazing - views from the top were incredible). The next day it had all melted and we got to see all the wintery colours underneath and all the waterfalls were really heavy, it was just as gorgeous.

The west coast 500 is our plan for next year - can't wait 😊

Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world in my opinion!

We've just finished a week in the Highlands - Glen Quaich today, which was beautiful, but gave Glencoe and Glen Etive a miss this time because if the idiots leaving their foul mess behind. One of my best mates lived up Glen Etive but moved a couple of years ago because if the antisocial behaviour of some 'wild campers' - her DH used to work away and there were some weeks she was scared to be at home with the kids because of people smashing fences and gates to set up camp. Calling the police didn't help - takes ages for them to respond.

Our country is so beautiful, but there are so many arseholes who seem intent on spoiling it for everyone. I'm starting to think wild camping should be banned.

I too love Glen Coe and am a McDonald, from Skye. Glen Etive is part of where James Bond was filmed, it’s where Skyfall supposedly was.
