What is that all about?

Why are yoghurts pushed a "women's food"? Confused

Never have I ever seen Aman eating a yoghurt in a yoghurt ad Confused

That's a good point actually. Dh eats yoghurt most days because I buy the big pots and we have ot on muesli and stuff but I have never seen a man at work eat a pot of yoghurt as part of their packed lunch or whatever. Is that because they are always marketed at women or is it because women tend to buy yoghurt more so the advertisers know their audience??

MiddleClassProblem · 31/07/2020 22:44

Have you ever heard a woman’s voice on a movie trailer? We are just meant to stay home with yoghurt and slimming products...

Although to be fair most people are doing that right now anyway.

I've noticed the yoghurt thing, but never noticed this before. But you're absolutely right.... I never have.

Of course they do, but only big tough manly Icelandic yoghurt.

SerenityNowwwww · 31/07/2020 22:51

Not if you live in the ME. Yoghurt for everyone is compulsory (it would seem...)

LaundryBasketOfHell · 31/07/2020 22:52

And men also never get diarrhoea nor constipation Hmm

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 31/07/2020 22:54

Men never have problems it’s their gums, constipation or diarrhoea either.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 31/07/2020 22:56

And only women eat chocolate and ice cream, Magnums in particular.

AgeLikeWine · 31/07/2020 22:56

For the same reason women don’t drink beer or bet on sport, or men don’t eat chocolate or get constipated. Sexism and gender stereotyping.

Babs709 · 31/07/2020 22:58

What. The. Fuck.

About two years ago I had a massive wake up call with the movie industry. Bechdel test and beyond. But I have never freaking noticed this and now I never want to watch another movie ever again. Even movies like mama mia and bridesmaids? I’m going to go and watch some trailers and weep.

GlindaTheGood · 31/07/2020 23:17

I’ve JUST seen a Danone advert which has men and women in it, as well as recyclable pots.

Oh yes, of course, when they can cycle over mountains etc

The voice over thing.... Shock

OP posts:
TwilightPeace · 01/08/2020 06:59

And men definitely wouldn’t almost orgasm while eating said yoghurt and Magnums....

MysweetAudrina · 01/08/2020 07:20

Exactly, they only enhance the female orgasm not the male one so no point them eating them really.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 01/08/2020 07:24

OMG I need to see a man orgasm over an ice cream in an advert now.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 01/08/2020 07:36

They haven't done voiceovers for film trailers since 2013/14

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 01/08/2020 07:37

And it was almost always the same person doing them. Google says he died in 2008

00100001 · 01/08/2020 07:39

Apparently 'Gone in 60 seconds' is a woman...

So who was doing them in the interim? 🤔
FlamingoAndJohn · 01/08/2020 08:03

This is very true.

Men do get back pain and headaches though.

LaundryBasketOfHell · 01/08/2020 08:24

I have to admit, I did find the Qooker advert v/o a bit annoying but mainly because they cut and spliced the advert into 5 second segments and drip fed it throughout the night.

LovelyWeekAway · 01/08/2020 08:43

So true

Same with washing powder adverts
Always a female hanging washing out or gathering up the laundry and sniffing it joyfully

Every air freshener Advert too , glade etc , all females Deep breathing and inhaling dreamily with their plug ins...

Sunnysidegold · 01/08/2020 09:15

I am horrified I haven't noticed so much of this before! Thanks for reminding me about the name of the Bechdel test, I was talking about that recently but forgot the name

SnugglySnerd · 01/08/2020 09:25

If men are in a household cleaning advert it's usually in a slightly incompetent "oh silly me burning all this food onto the hob, never mind this cleaning product is simple enough for even a useless man like me to use" way.
