Heated airer.
I think I was nudged via here to get one but I'm still in love with it a thousand years later.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/07/2020 17:02

Fire extinguishers. One for the kitchen, one for the bedroom in case of nighttime emergency.

2020nymph · 30/07/2020 17:06

To add to the above. A ball of string (thanks nan!), she was right as always.

Bin bags
Painkillers

RainbowRaine · 31/07/2020 00:23

Ok so I may just have to have to shorten it a bit.

I was going to buy it all as a little housewarming gift.

Perhaps I will just stick to a multi tool

Everything gets mended in our house with gaffer tape or cable ties.

@TooFrickinHot

We have a gazillion fancy tools that dp insists on buying, but 90% of the time we use this

www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/fixa-17-piece-tool-set-00169254/

I would really recommend it!

@TooFrickinHot I was about to recommend this too! It’s a surprisingly useful and basic set that covers most of your needs.
JingsMahBucket · 31/07/2020 07:48

Add in the IKEA drill and you’re pretty much set for a while www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/fixa-screwdriver-drill-li-ion-00232905/

NeedToKnow101 · 31/07/2020 08:51

What's a magic sponge?

TheGirlWhoLived · 31/07/2020 08:59

Did anyone put plasters on the list?

Screwdrivers
Selection of batteries
Basic first aid
Wd40
Gaffer tape

I’d say anything that couldn’t be easily gotten hold of, or else anything that is needed very quickly

RainbowRaine · 31/07/2020 09:27

NeedToKnow101

Magic sponge gets rid of marks from walls, doors, skirting boards etc with minimal effort.

I don't have most of those things and I left home decades ago.

Tin opener?

Shodan · 31/07/2020 09:47

Ds1 is moving out on Wednesday next week, and despite my sage advice (lol) decided that the thing he needed most was...

A 49 inch tv Grin

He also decided that two saucepans were sufficient to cook his 4 meals a day.

I did, however, manage to get him to buy oven mitts and kitchen tongs. Also tupperware, once he realised he couldn't filch mine.

PigletJohn · 31/07/2020 10:10

Unless in US, she will need Pozidriv screwdrivers, not Phillips

borisjohnsonsstylist · 31/07/2020 10:46

Shoe polish
Lint roller
Over the door hooks
Drain unblocker
Dustpan and brush
Picture hook hanging set
Screwdrivers (I have a great set that also has interchangeable Allen key heads)
Hammer / mallet for flat pack building
Drill (Ikea to a great small one)
Cheese grater
Bottle opener
Extension leads
Light bulbs
Bleach
Microfibre cloths
Pyrex jug
Laundry basket
Zip lock bags / tubs for leftovers
Salt, pepper, chilli flakes, mixed herbs, dried garlic, paprika
Ice cube trays

Obviously there is a lot more, but these things are handy!

breadcakebiscuits · 31/07/2020 10:48

Carbon Monoxide alarm.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 31/07/2020 11:30

Screwdriver that comes with different heads so you can select size/shape needed. Extension cord with extra sockets/usb cables.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 31/07/2020 11:31

Cable ties? Mover used one in my 41 years!

CornishW · 31/07/2020 12:01

Plug socket extension lead
