So far I have

Gaffer tape
Gorilla glue
Emergency toilet roll
Set of Allen keys
Sellotape
All-purpose cleaner
Magic sponge
Cleaning cloths

Tool kit
Batteries
Black sacks

A large bag of biros. No idea where all my pens go!

StonersPotPalace · 30/07/2020 15:14

Cheesecake

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 30/07/2020 15:14

An apron. Made my son take one to uni, the whole house used it for a year and never washed it. I'm happy those lads appreciated all the curry stains on the apron could have been stuck on their clothes!

Shizzlestix · 30/07/2020 15:20

Cable ties? I don’t recall using one since I moved in 20 years ago!

Bottle opener, tin opener and cleaning supplies.

torthecatlady · 30/07/2020 15:30

It depends on if your dc is moving into a home of their own or shared accommodation I guess.

All good suggestions above.

How about a hot water bottle and blanket for over winter.

GreyBudgie · 30/07/2020 15:42

Dust pan and brush. The dust pan is useful as a scoop for floods, snow on car or paths. The brush clears cobwebs and spiders.

@FreezerBird

The two essentials for life are wd40 and gaffer tape.

If it's moving and it shouldn't : gaffer tape
If it isn't moving and it should: wd40

unless you are a farmer and then its bailer twine and not gaffer tape!

When I left home I took two small screwdrivers (flat and cross heads, didn't bother with a posidrive) which I kept in a pen pot on my desk and that really was all I needed, everything else I acquired as I went along.

crosstalk · 30/07/2020 16:00

Agree with msmouse though a chat about what they might need if you have duplicates in the house no bad thing.

karmasic · 30/07/2020 16:01

Nice idea.

My suggestions are:

1 cat & 1 dog

Misses point of the thread

Heartlake · 30/07/2020 16:02

Scissors
Love
Good pillows

JaneJeffer · 30/07/2020 16:03

If you've been captured on cctv buying all that lot, I wouldn't fancy your chances if there was a local murder
Grin especially if you add a torch to the list

terracottapot · 30/07/2020 16:09

Stapler.
Eraser.
Envelopes.

One of those expanding file things for paperwork. Even though so many things are online now, you will still need one.

Copies of birth certificate, NHS, NI and passport numbers.

Savlon.
TCP.
Antihistamine cream.
Plasters.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/07/2020 16:10

Don't buy a pizza cutter, they're shit. A big knife is better (and kitchen scissors are the BEST)

If, however you still want one, pm me. You'll be very welcome to one of my, er, collection that people keep buying me 🙄

dworky · 30/07/2020 16:11

But do you know where the main stopcock is situated?

dodobookends · 30/07/2020 16:12

Freezer bag clips.
Playing cards.
Safety pins & a mini sewing kit.

TooFrickinHot · 30/07/2020 16:14

We have a gazillion fancy tools that dp insists on buying, but 90% of the time we use this

www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/fixa-17-piece-tool-set-00169254/

I would really recommend it!

yamadori · 30/07/2020 16:17

Nectar card, Tesco Clubcard etc.

Onekidnoclue · 30/07/2020 16:26

What do people use cable ties for? I’m approaching 40 and have never used one!
I’d recommend scissors and a door wedge. Can prop door open or be used like a lock to get a bit of privacy 😉

NameChange657 · 30/07/2020 16:27

Sellotape, blu tack, some very sharp scissors, tin opener/bottle opener in one, Command damage free hanging if it's rental, a colander, a thermometer and paracetamol!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/07/2020 16:33

What do people use cable ties for?

Rustling up guinea-pig cages with C&C grids Grin

I'd put sharp knife and a good potato peeler on there .............but you don't buy knives as a gift (unlucky)

Somanysocks · 30/07/2020 16:36

Radiator bleeding key
Rope

Somanysocks · 30/07/2020 16:40

If you've been captured on cctv buying all that lot, I wouldn't fancy your chances if there was a local murder confused

You would need wellies, tarpaulin and spade to look really suspicious.

BluebellsGreenbells · 30/07/2020 16:41

Pogmella · 30/07/2020 16:46

Rope
