Conwy really busy this afternoon, people queuing to get into the beer gardens, lots of people with chips leaning against any wall they could find. Popped into a shop but two people ahead of me waiting to talk to owner so thought will go in when it is quieter. Hardly a mask in sight only elderly people wearing them, was very relaxed indeed.

@justasking111 am I right in thinking Wales not doing masks in shops yet? Love Conwy, so many happy memories of fish and chips whilst the boys crabbed with their friends.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 29/07/2020 16:49

Wales currently only requires masks on public transport - which is also at least the trains supposed to still be essential journeys and key workers only.

I'm seeing older people in masks more but they are still in minority in this part of Wales.

I suspect many are like us have them on them in bags and pockets and would ware if required but if not currently aren't wearing them.

justasking111 · 29/07/2020 16:51

@ibake no not compulsory re masks, however lots in supermarkets and around shops in Llandudno. Drakeford has said clearly if you cannot socially distance then a mask is a good idea. But it has been left up to us so far. Conwy is more touristy so people enjoying the freedom here I suspect.

We go crabbing with the grand kids now, lots of fun, however, fishing vessels are coming into our waters these days and scooping them up, some european countries use them to make soups. Turns my stomach because they are bottom feeders who eat anything and everything. I remember on a market in Portugal vendors selling them out of buckets for this purpose.

This makes some good points.

God the mask creep ("my 8 year old wears one just fine") and the creeping back of "blended learning" and half-timetables and "not the schools problem if you can't go back to work" - I want to cry.

Just deleted the C topic from bookmarks, not even going to open the threads there anymore. The school threads are just awful.

Sadly they don't even stay quarantined and we keep on getting thread spikes, indicative of a possible second wave, in local areas such as Chat, AIBU, Education and quite possibly The Fucking Stationery Cupboard. The Govt have recommended imposing local lockdowns but the buggers get everywhere.
justasking111 · 29/07/2020 17:16

@HelenaDove interesting point in there that says because we did the social distancing, lockdown, so figures fell, we will never know if it could have been achieved with masks alone or if they are necessary. So to try to say right now wear masks, then gloves, then whatever they dream up next who knows what is the most effective way of staying well.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 29/07/2020 17:19

There's a thread based on evening standard article saying schools might not get back at all - so that's cheery.

I'd hope there was planning for these situations just in case but posters seem to know better.

I'm finding it hard this week - as should have been on holiday. I'm not getting a break from the house and all the crap that always needs doing and I'd really hoped we'd get a few days out further a field which doesn't look possible.

I can now see the attraction of living on coast - walks with changing back drops - DH lived in coastal city for a while and that was nice - no way we'd have afforded to buy there though. Best we can do here is walks along the canals again and there aren't that many of them.

justasking111 · 29/07/2020 17:21

Well we have a spike in Wrexham which appears to be coming OUT!! of the hospital. Now this hospital has a history of collapsing, closing every winter with norovirus, flu, every bloody time. That is when they aren`t spreading MRSA or Cdif.

ISaySteadyOn · 29/07/2020 17:21

If it helps at all, I was out today to my non dementoring shop and saw very few masks plus I passed 4 police with not a mask between them.

DH had to remove an aphid infested flower from our garden today before they got my tomatoes. That was a new experience for us but thank goodness for DD2 who alerted us to them. I have come to love my garden through this so there is good.

That's a shame about crook Hall. It's lovely there. And about Bish.

I don't even have children and that schools thread made my heart sink so heaven only knows how you poor parents must feel.

Same here.

I can't imagine the stress parents are under especially when they will be expected to go to work even if schools close unexpectedly all the time.

PickAChew · 29/07/2020 17:45

One of the things I love about where I live is that within sight of my house there is everything from ex LA housing and slightly decrepit terraces through to half million pound high spec 5 bed new builds. It's a good area but not an exclusively middle class bubble. Means that we don't lower the tone of the place too much :o

Earlier today covid deaths England 14, Scotland Wales, NI 0 =14.

Now total is 83, ever feel you have crossed over to the other side of the looking glass (rolls eyes)

NowYouListenToMeFella · 29/07/2020 18:07

Hello everyone. Miserable wet day here. Just home from getting a haircut. My hairdresser was saying he can see him having to wear his visor from here to eternity!!

I coloured my own hair last night as can't face prolonging the mask wearing.

I can't keep up with what Boris is going on about over there. Our MPs took a pay cut but will end up with more money in their pockets. Some super minister (nothing fucking super about them) had a €16000 increase. Massive backlash so they gave one €16k back and split the other €32k between the three of them.

110APiccadilly · 29/07/2020 18:08

I thought the Wales sad death total was 5 today. Noticed it because it's been 0 for a while.

You are right. Wales must have been late getting their figures in today. And all in my health board the infamous betsi cadwaladr. sigh.....
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 29/07/2020 18:17

Schools aren’t really a problem. Just hire a governess and convert your spare spare room. It’s not rocket science ladies. 😂

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 29/07/2020 18:19

@helenadove ‘ok BJ probably doesn’t need to worry about being reported to SS for leaving Wilfred (?) home alone whilst he takes the dog out for a wee dawn run.
