Those type bands are recommended by Mind for those who stuggle with mask as being a bit easier. there are lots around. Still quite bandit like though! But better than masks....

that looks fun Crucru doing the bins here Wink

Lots of wealthy in Bath, Dc's friends mostly going to private school after primary, have a house in Bath and second home at the coast, wonder how they are doing, it said in local press lots here able to work from home (or retired, wealthy i expect)

there are things like knitting in the woods groups charging £15 to go knit for an hour..

Orangeblossom78 · 29/07/2020 14:07

(we are not though, sadly)

Willow2017 · 29/07/2020 14:08

@CruCru

In other news - we are at Blackgang Chine!

Lots of sanitiser stations but few people in masks.

Love the sign!

I do find some people are really clueless about other people's financial circumstances. In talking about mandatory two-week quarantine after coming into potential contact with someone with a confirmed infection, some people are saying oh just don't go anywhere that might happen, simple.
Very simple indeed if you have an office job that you've been happily doing from home. Not very simple at all if your job involves being physically present amonst multiple other staff members, or dealing with the public.
Berating people for "not doing the right thing" by quarantining but being remarkably silent about ensuring that there's decent financial assistance to be able to do so.

As usual those on lower incomes get the shitty end of the stick. Plus ça change I suppose, but I wish they'd shut up about team efforts.

There is a really interesting thread in the coronavirus section about diseases from posters' childhoods. Pointing out how we just lived with really nasty diseases.

There is a link to the Notifications of Infectious Diseases weekly report, showing that many of them are still with us, eg TB cases in the thousands each year, even the odd case of leprosy. Were it not for the fact that now we're on the side of the looking glass where only Covid is considered a threat, it would make quite scary reading.

It's a good thread, no dementoring (so far), just posters' experiences of the diseases our forebears had to contend with.

Smirking at that. More fool them.

They queue outside the artisan shops to spend £6 on a sour dough loaf here. To my unsophisticated palate, the cheapo sour dough from Lidl tastes fine. But as I am not prepared to spend 6 quid on a bit of bread I have nothing to compare it to.

Maybe we should all tell our employers that we cant come to work because there is a minute miniscule chance we will be near someone who has it and have to take 2 weeks off work? Its 7 months too late for most of us but hey better late than never and we must all STAY SAFE apparently and not go anywhere we might catch it !!!!!

Why are they paying, you could go do it for free?
And I would much rather be looking at the wildlife and fauna, I can knit at home!
£6 for a loaf of bread????
Good job I dont like sourdough then Grin

The one I asked how a chimney sweep can operate without going in houses hasn't responded.

I saw an example of ‘mask as magic talisman’ last night. I was at my book group - hosted by one of the women who has a very beautiful, large garden. We’re all sitting outside, spread out (so conversation quite tricky for partially deaf me), so about as low risk as it gets. One of the other people was decked out in fabric mask and disposable gloves. She’s quite a bit older than the rest of us, and getting a bit fragile but in good health, certainly no major illnesses/conditions which would make her more vulnerable.

She did not stop touching the mask the whole evening - it went on, it came off, it was underneath her nose, chin hammock, over one ear, she spent a lot of time with it on her lap, fiddling with it. The gloves stayed on the whole time - she ate with them on and went to the loo with them on. There’s no way any of it would have helped stop virus transmission in any way - it could well have helped it spread on its merry way if there had been any more than zero cases in our area in the last four weeks ... but for some weird reason, it obviously made her feel safer. She’s a very intelligent woman who’s had a fascinating life and an extremely high-powered career but the level of public anxiety has derailed her critical thinking - it was fascinating and baffling in equal measures

I tried on this yellow mask Last night and heard a hissing, it was our pet cocktail, he was really scared bless him!

Ibake · 29/07/2020 15:32

@Orangeblossom78 I also bought some handybands from Seasalt and just given one a try in Aldi. How do you stop them slipping down all the time? I can just see the MN post now:

"In Aldi today and this woman fiddled constantly with her pretentious middle class scarf as it kept falling down. Just wear a proper mask ffs. I DISPAIR"

So, any tips (other than tit tape) or should I go back to my visor? It's quite pretty and nowhere near as hot breath as a mask so I'd like to persevere if I can.

countrygirl99 · 29/07/2020 15:34

Pet cocktail?

Orangeblossom78 · 29/07/2020 15:35

Cockateil! Like a little parrot, he is yellow himself bless him

Orangeblossom78 · 29/07/2020 15:36

Mine slips a bit too, wonder if need a tighter one, DH has a fluffy type one from Urban outfitters i think, his has a kind of woggle on it

i wear my hair in a bun and put it around that which helps a bit

Ibake · 29/07/2020 15:41

Thanks. I'll persevere because it is quite pretty and I'm shallow enough for that to matter

countrygirl99 · 29/07/2020 15:41

Shame, a pet cocktail sounded fun😊

Pleasedontdothat · 29/07/2020 15:44

On the very odd occasion where I’ve had to cover my face I’ve used a buff - falls down constantly so I fiddle with it constantly. I’m only wearing it to comply not for any supposed virus transmission benefits so I’m really not bothered!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 29/07/2020 15:46

I’ve been using hygge bands as masks. They’re not getting used at the gym anyway... a good variety of colours and they stay put.

Had a minor eye operation once & had to wear a patch for a couple of days. We had pet rabbits at the time. They did not like that patch, kept thumping & hiding from me!

If you wear gloves to protect yourself when using someone else's toilet, do you take them off when you use the toilet? Or keep them on?

Because if you take them off whilst on the toilet you really should wash your hands before replacing them, but if you've got into the toilet cubicle with gloves on, & then go gloveless to the sink, then you've still got to touch stuff, so what was the point of wearing them to go in?

If you keep them on throughout do you remove them, wash hands & replace the same pair- that you've probably used to touch the germy toilet flush with?

Or do you remove, dispose of them, wash, put on a clean pair?

Or wash hands wearing the gloves?

Or not wash at all, because you've got gloves on so you're alright, aren't you? In which case, YUK!

Really curious about this. It raises more questions for me than it seems to solve problems!

Willow2017 · 29/07/2020 15:56

Just found out I am on holiday next week from work! Nice surprise ( I didnt know I had to get my hols in within a couple of weeks after starting my new job so have been allocated them, I dont mind as have nowhere to go being skint!) but if the weather doesnt improve will have nowhere to go even for day trips! Will try and get to the zoo but most other places are hardly worth it with restrictions and if its bad weather no use at all. Oh well might attack all my pots and tidy them up and get rid of all the weeds out the front Grin Will hunt for a 'new' reasonably cheap banger car (and maybe sleep for 2 days solid !)

Ibake · 29/07/2020 15:57

Christ @TheOrchidKiller no idea! Why not pose it as an innocent question on a D thread?! Or ask she who clip clops, she's bound to know the answer

TheOrchidKiller · 29/07/2020 16:15

@Ibake this is exactly why I post my sarcastic musings on this particular thread. But if anyone wishes to borrow them to ask an innocent question, be my guest Grin

(By the way, I only discovered what you were on about with regards to the equine feet a few days ago!)

HeadSpin5 · 29/07/2020 16:22

I found the easybands slipped too, and were too tight on my mouth (I find I breathe through my mouth in masks!). Annoying as I like them; will keep for emergency in the Winter as doubles as scarf like pp’s said
