Petty Pandemic Whinges. Bring your trivial traumas here and I promise I won’t judge.

Before I start, I know that some fucking awful things are happening to people around the world as a result of Covid19. I’ve had to endure some real trauma myself, so I don’t take it lightly.

But sometimes I think a space to rant and stamp our feet about the petty inconveniences would be very cathartic. So here it is.

I’ll start.

Today my fucking face mask ripped my favourite earring out of my ear when I removed it, and it broke.

My much-loved yoga class, which was the best hour of my week, is permanently closed.

Angry Sad

If anyone else has petty whinges that they don’t feel happy to say out loud in the real world, please feel free...

We had to cancel a special to us holiday, it was very modest but after a long time of not being able to stay away, it was going to be v special I think.

We are missing swimming and some museums so much it hurts!

MrsJonesAndMe · 27/07/2020 21:43

Some of these are definitely not petty. Flowers to you all

My petty moan is the fact that there is nothing to do with kids if it's raining. Yes, we have plenty of toys and can bake, craft whatever, but it's not the same as going to soft play or swimming or whatever Angry Sad

I'm also not looking forward to the constant rounds of children (and us) being sick and having to get them tested when they cough or have a temp!

drspouse · 27/07/2020 21:45

I want the sun back too.
I want to take DS swimming in a pool. We tried the sea but he was too cold.
I want him to be able to have his regular therapy and I want DD's bestie's parents to get over their anxiety enough to play in the park. We've had one case this week in our district.

drspouse · 27/07/2020 21:47

@slipperywhensparticus we were told to send nothing with DD who isn't properly toilet trained (KW DH) which lasted about a week before they told us to send spare clothes... Just give them a couple of days!

Hassled · 27/07/2020 21:49

I'm hacked off that DH has used lockdown to become that middle aged Lycra-clad cycling cliche man and has lost a ton of weight and is looking good for it. For the first time in our 25 years together I'm the fatter one. I'm meant to be the slim one, dammit.

drspouse · 27/07/2020 21:54

By the way I'm popping to Sainsbury's every so often with the bags. No need to buy anything.

MotherofDragons48 · 27/07/2020 21:59

People are wankers! I want shock collars fitted to the dozy bastards that either refuse to follow simple instructions, arrows or notices . When you're told to go one way don't go the other way because that makes you look stupid! Also people that just refuse point blank to walk single file for all of two seconds while you squeeze past them on the pavement. Newsflash: it's not going to destroy your relationship if you let go of his hand and walk behind him while I pass you at a safe distance. He's not going to cheat and I am not about to drop to my knees and give him a quick blowy as I pass. Just stop being a twunt and MOVE !!! I feel so much better for this 🥴

This. We are having work done on our house this week and I REALLY needed to get out with my 1 year old today...pissing with rain and nothing to do. The one local attraction which might have worked you had to prebook and when I checked yesterday there were no tickets left. Ended up in a cafe which lasted about 15 minutes 🙄 hardly the day out I needed!!!! Dreading the winter if this continues. Wrapping up in waterproofs and playing in the rain isn’t for me.
BakewellTarts · 27/07/2020 22:05

Other people in my space...all the time...without a break...I'm looking at you Famalam...I mean I love you and all...but sometimes I need to be alone!

MotherofDragons48 · 27/07/2020 22:06

@slipperywhensparticusDO IT! YOU TELL EM TO TWAT OFF AND WE'LL ALL COME DOWN TO THE GATES AND CHEER WHEN YOU DO IT !

LunaNorth · 27/07/2020 22:09

Something else I hate is how gauche I feel.

I hate having to hover outside shops craning my neck to see if it’s ok to go in.

I hate how stroppily the checkout assistant in Waterstones asked me to turn my books upside down so she could scan the barcodes without touching them.

I hate getting things a bit wrong. I used to feel like a competent adult and now I’m all awkward and nervous.

Grown adults who got new bikes when the gyms all closed and don’t know what the f*ck they are doing. If you are over 13 years old you should not be on the pavement on a bicycle. (I guess I am quite lucky that with everything that is going on, the only things winding me up are the sidewalk cyclists).

LunaNorth · 27/07/2020 22:15

@Hassled that bastard! How dare he?

Wink

Dog shit. Everywhere.

Either people have completely let their standards slip during the course of the coronapocalypse, or they never walked their dogs before.

I swear it’s increased tenfold on our usual routes.

I’m on a roll now.

There are people on all my lovely quiet country walks.

Trudging round my woods and nature walks in multi-generational hordes, shattering all the peace.

Arseholes.

John Lewis in my town is closing down, permanently! Sad

I’m annoyed that both DDs had pretty crap birthdays because they were during lockdown or at the point when you could still barely see anyone or do anything.

DD’s surprise birthday theatre trip was cancelled, so we didn’t even tell her.

Various other fun trips/theatre /other tickets have all been cancelled.

Our big Easter holiday to Pompeii at the height of lockdown obviously got cancelled, which I’ve been looking forward to for years.

I still haven’t cuddled my four month old nephew who was born the week before full lockdown but we couldn’t see him as one DD had a cough and we had to household isolate. Sad. And haven’t hugged my sister either since she had him (it’s her 1st child). We first met him age 9 weeks, from 2m distance, outside.

Aaaarrrghhhh!

LunaNorth · 27/07/2020 22:40

Ah, that’s all shite, @Wigeon

I’m getting up to make hot chocolate. Anyone want one? Brew

Mrsfrumble · 27/07/2020 22:42

Urgh yes, the dog shit! And the discarded masks. We went for a walk in the countryside yesterday (well, zone 5 which is close enough) and even there they were scattered in hedges and gutters. I thought wearing masks was all about protecting others. How is junking the place up with used, germy rubbish doing that?

BogRollBOGOF · 27/07/2020 22:55

The snitching and moral "superiority" from a core of society.
DS1 monologuing at me. DS2 thinking I'm a beanbag.
It's already week 20 of the summer holidays, with few options for entertainment/ sanity that have not been exhausted in the last 19 weeks.
Still climbing over fences into playgrounds.
Still no mid-run public toilets.
No races to train for
My body is tight and unfit from the lack of my osteopath. (Later this week Grin )
Not getting started on DS1's EHCP (diagnosed in December). No discussion with school about DS1's needs. Just ignore him for 4 months and plop an autistic child in a new class. Great. Probably no open evenings in September so deciding on an appropriate secondary school is now hindered (approaching y5, but this is a big considerationthat needs time not slap him dien for the lical comp that's weak on SEN provision in y6)
The TV has died. Probably of boredom from 4 months of youtube videos about Minecraft.

I loathe this new abnormal.
I need human faces. Whole human faces. Not disconnected top halves, and inaudible speech.

LunaNorth · 27/07/2020 22:59

I’m shocked at how children with SEN are being treated in the midst of all this.

OP posts:
drspouse · 27/07/2020 23:01

We didn't get to go skiing and DH may have yet another long term condition which makes travel difficult and we may never get to go skiing again (his health is not great).

LunaNorth · 27/07/2020 23:10

@drspouse I’m sorry to hear that. Pull up a chair. We all feel your pain.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 27/07/2020 23:11

Our holiday of a lifetime was cancelled.
DD3 had a rubbish end to primary school.

DD1s exams got cancelled and she’s getting estimated grades and chances are she’ll be upset about them.

Everywhere looks a mess with face masks/gloves/overflowing bins/litter
Worried about going back to work after my little SEN children being off for 5 months how they will cope. Still don’t know what it’s going to look like??

It’s rained all day today again!

Mel1091 · 27/07/2020 23:29

Missing out on the whole experience of introducing my baby to the world, taking them to baby classes and the zoo etc. (He was born mid Feb so got to meet family when he was tiny but wasn't old enough for anything else when Lockdown hit)

Having to make a 'faces board' so DS recognises faces.

Missing out on enjoying my first Mother's day as a mum because I was stuck in hospital and DH and DS weren't allowed to visit

I also hate wearing a mask, can't stand feeling breath or drafts on my skin, they make it hard to breath. (I do wear one just hate doing so)

Missing my friends cause I'm off work on mat leave (would of been a keyworker) and can't go out like we planned to

LunaNorth · 28/07/2020 02:42

That’s all so disappointing, @Mel1091. What a great mum though, to think of making a face board! Fab idea.
